What makes Brooklyn band Slowdance unique is actually very simple. Initially formed in 2009 by a collection of friends, its purpose is to make music its members would like to hear. Keyboardist Luke Fox says, “we didn’t want to go into it with any kind of set rules or influences. We just wanted to see what would happen when we started playing together.”

As Slowdance works on their debut full-length that they hope to release in the fall, the group is releasing a brand new 7-inch single via White Iris. The disc’s two tracks, penned in the same period as Light & Color, reveal the group’s dulcet yet compelling indie pop tendencies, equal parts New Order and Hardy. “Boyfriend,” the single’s A-side is a sparkling pop number infused with a sunny vintage feel. Its B-side, “Airports,” is a sultry, swelling lounge track led by Quay’s winsome croon.

Teams, the musical project of 22-year-old multi-instrumentalist Sean Bowie, draws inspiration from blissful tunes of days past. Inspired by the '70s and '80s, the LA-based producer weaves chillwave and R&B to create addictive electronic dance music.  Teams, who has toured in the U.S. and Europe, will now offer up a 7-inch single Love Distance / Glow Fam via White Iris, balancing the disc with two sonically opposing tracks. The A-side “Love Distance”, penned in a mansion in Venice Beach, is a breezy electro number. Conversely, the B-side “Glow Fam”, which features Ohio producer Dick Models, is grittier and distorted.

o V E r V i E WAs an album title, Lost in Transition seems apt. For Sixpence None the Richer, it’s a reminder of the struggles and uncertainty the band endured over the past few years, before ultimately finding their way again.

Since forming in 1993, the Nashville-based band has released four albums, scored several hit singles (“Kiss Me,” “There She Goes,” “Don’t Dream It’s Over” and “Breathe Your Name”), appeared on seemingly a million soundtracks, landed a platinum record and even earned a few Grammy nominations. But the band amicably parted ways in 2004, shortly after releasing their last full-length record, Divine Discontent. The “transition” had begun. After a few outside ventures and solo albums, the band reunited five years ago. But putting together a new, original full-length record was never necessarily in the cards. For one, the band had to wade through various label and business issues; fortunately, they were able to find a newfound musical freedom by partnering with the independent music distributor The Orchard. Transition also features a stripped down sound; the end result is a gorgeous mix of pop hooks, piano, acoustic guitars, a bit of country and a newfound and beautiful simplicity to the songs.

Originally formed in Oslo, Norway in 1989, Turbonegro returns in 2012 with their 9th album “Sexual Harassment”. Not only one of Scandinavia’s leading mainstream rock bands, but Turbonegro is recognized as international punk rock legend. Based on a musical blend of hardcore punk, metal and classic rock, Turbonegro is approachable on many levels - as a masterclass in nonconformist punk-rock attitude; a veritable orgy of twisted humour; an exploration of dark, self-destructive philosophy; as formularized performance à la AC/DC/Ramones/Slayer; as ritualized sexual deviancy; and, of course, as ass-shakin' rock & roll, second to none.

Nobody  understands  heat  like  Texans.  Sure,  you  know  about  the  dog  days,  about  short  shorts  and  cannonballs,  but  do  you  really  know  about  heat?  No.  Born  in  Denton,  Texas,  psychedelic  pop  rockers  Sundress  are  experts  in  raising  the  mercury.  Just  in  time  for  the  hottest  days  of  the  year,  the  band  will  be  releasing  a  7”  on  White  Iris,  debuting  two  brand  new  tunes,  “California  Dames”  and  “Pilot  Wings.”    “California  Dames”  was  written,  romantically,  before  the  band  had  actually  ever  been  to  California.  “We’re  small  town  kids,”  McAdams  says,  “being  in  a  band  is  really  the  only  way  we’ll  be  able  to  travel.”  The  song  does,  in  fact,  sound  like  a  small  town  boy’s  idea  of  California,  all  echoing  floor  toms  and  fuzzy  hazy  beach  day  guitars.  It’s  a  song  about  being  wanted  and  wanting,  of  a  promise  of  something  more.  “California  dames  are  waiting,”  McAdams  sings  like  a  sign,  “California  dreams  where  are  they?”  he  then  asks.  Unlike  most  things,  which  turn  out  to  be  nothing  like  you  hoped  they’d  be,  McAdams  assures  that  this  was  not  the  case  for  Sundress.  “We  love  California,”  he  said.  California  dreams  were  right  where  he  thought  they  would  be,  it  seems.      “We  make  music  about  feelings,  rather  than  the  common  theme  of  getting  drunk  and  messing  around  with  your  friends,”  McAdams  says,  quickly  laughing  and  adding,  “although  we  love  to  do  that,  too.”  Indeed,  all  of  Sundress’  songs  start  on  simple  themes  and  expand  outwards,  taking  something  as  simple  as  the  aforementioned  California  fantasy  and  making  it  about  a  larger  yearning,  or,  as  in  “Pilot  Wings,”  drawing  inspiration  from  a  video  game  (sharing  the  same  name,  for  Nintendo  64),  and  making  it  about  nostalgia  and  returning  to  feelings  of  childhood.      Filled  with  curiosity  and  optimism  about  both  their  future  as  a  band  and  the  simple  wonder  of  the  world  beyond  their  hometown,  Sundress  are  a  band  on  the  verge.  You’ll  see,  just  let  them  show  you.     Touring  in  August  in  key  markets:  New  York,  Chicago,  Philadelphia,  Washington  DC,  Atlanta.  Check  at  sundressnation.com/tour  for  dates  &  more  cities.      Video  for  “California  Dames”  due  out  in  August.

Sof' Sike can be seen as a dramatic left (er, make that a right) turn follow-up to Slim Twig’s Contempt!, his last release on Paper Bag Records. Replacing analog drum machines and scratched-record samples are the vaguely psychedelic rumblings of live instrumentation: pianos, organs, guitar, bass, drums! Out of the murky and demented inspiration of his previous releases we can now hear the sound of a promising young songwriteyoung songwriter.

Although as idiosyncratic as ever, these new songs showcase an interest in classic songwriting, a fondness for psych-era Rolling Stones, an affinity with the queer power pop of R. Stevie Moore- in short, an odd friendliness (of sorts). Sof' Sike is a diverse collection of songs, and with its restless approach to genre and uncontained enthusiasm for POP, can be viewed in the lineage of records like The Who's Sell Out, or Spark's A Woofer In Woofer In Tweeters Clothing.

PRESS QUOTES:

“Never mind his multi-instrumental facility; like all fine actors, Slim Twig's real talent is making his fantassee feel so real.” — Pitchfork Media

“Slim Twig exudes the kind of cool we worshipped in Extra Width-era Jon Spencer’s rockabilly punk chic and Genesis P. Orridge’s extreme mixed-media weirdness, and that’s hard to come by.” — Exclaim!

“A Toronto icon-in-the-making, Slim Twig is already well known in indie circles for his clutch of avant-rockabilly EPs. The ever-mysterious pompa-doured troubadour couples his stylishly crafted persona with his Suicide-drenched, art-damaged country tunes.” —NOW Toronto

what makes this emerging Toronto performer'compelling is his compulsive soliloquist's flair, a direct but static-filled line into a collective cinematic un-conscious." - The Globe and Mail

Guy Forsyth the freedom to fail

The Freedom To Fail marks an exploration into new territory for 20-year

Austin veteran Guy Forsyth. Rather than focus his efforts solely on making an

album that embodied the energy surrounding he and his band’s dynamic live

performances, Forsyth instead opted to create a work that doubled as a

message to his young daughter, instilling upon her that she had to grow up

feeling the freedom to fail.

"These songs represent an articulation of the changes in my viewpoints and

the new legality that I see," Forsyth explains of the album, his first release for

Blue Corn Music. "I became a father in this period of time and started looking

around me and trying to figure out what it is that I had to say to my daughter to

explain myself. I don't feel the need to explain myself to everyone, but I sure as

hell feel the need to explain myself to my daughter. I want her to have that sort

of connection with her origins."

Produced by Matt Smith and recorded at the Lost Oasis Studio in Austin,

Texas, The Freedom to Fail finds Forsyth handling a wide array of stringed

instruments both contemporary and traditional, including the banjo, mandolin,

baritone guitar, and harp guitar – a 12-stringed instrument made popular at the

turn of the 20th century. Forsyth's diverse play gets a boost in the form of

support players like local icon Jon Dee Graham, fellow Asylum Street Spankers

alum John Doyle and multi-instrumentalist Sick, trumpeter Oliver Steck, and

stalwart (and newly married) rhythm section of drummer Nina Singh-Botta and

bassist Jeff Botta.

Over With You, Steve Forbert’s first studio album in three years, is an earnest account of the often-mixed emotions involved in personal relationships. The album takes the lyrical brilliance of Forbert and pairs it with a cast of accomplished young musicians who add a layer of supple, empathetic support.

34 years after his first album, Steve Forbert is releasing an exciting new one. “This is an album that has taken a lifetime to make,” explains Forbert. “You don’t just pull these songs out of thin air — you have to live them.” And these songs make the case that Forbert should be considered in the first rank of American songwriters.

SELLING POINTS:

• Grammy-nominated in 2004, and member of the Mississippi Music Hall of Fame since 2006, singer/songwriter Steve Forbert has released fourteen studio albums and performs about one hundred concerts a year. Influential debut Alive On Arrival (1978) was followed by the Gold record Jackrabbit Slim (1979), featuring the top 20 hit single “Romeo’s Tune.”

• His first studio album in three years, Over With You is an emotional collection of songs that re-focuses the spotlight on his powerful songwriting talents.

• Recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Grammy-Award winner Chris Goldsmith (Ben Harper, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Ruthie Foster, Charlie Musselwhite)

• Features a fresh cast of musicians including indie-folk-rock artist Ben Sollee (My Morning Jacket, Sparrow Quartet), on cello and bass, Jason Yates (Ben Harper, Citizen Cope) on piano and organs, Michael Jerome (John Cale, Richard Thompson) on drums, and Sheldon Gomberg (Rickie Lee Jones, Warren Zevon) on electric and upright bass.

sPirit OF talk talk O V E r V i E W

The Truth: In September, fierce panda will be releasing ‘Spirit Of Talk Talk’, a double album which features 30 con-temporary acts from around the globe re-inventing, re-interpreting and just generally rebooting many of Talk Talk’s greatest moments precisely 30 years since ‘Talk Talk’ made its mark on the mainstream. This twin CD opus comes swaddled in artwork by creative Talk Talk stalwart James Marsh and sees profits going to the Rare Bird Club.

It was 1982 when Mark Hollis and crew first soared into view with a slew of deceptively commercial hit singles. However by the time Talk Talk delivered the seminal ‘The Colour Of Spring’ album (their third) in 1986, which bril-liantly merged pop instinct with experimental flair, they’d long since shed any hint of being mere also (duran du)rans. Whereupon Hollis turned his back on the mainstream completely and made three further albums (two as Talk Talk, one solo) of breathtaking scope and mindblowing minimalism before - obviously - fading from view.

Some of the acts, notably King Creosote, White Lies, Zero 7, Turin Brakes, Goldheart Assembly, Joan As Police Woman and Linton Kwesi Johnson, will already be familiar to listeners. Many of them are creeping out of the shad-ows of outfits such as The Verve (RIP), Arcade Fire, Grandaddy, Electric Soft Parade, Guillemots and Bon Iver - we’ll let you work out who. One of them, Ian Curnow, even played keyboards for Talk Talk first time around. There are col-laborations and imaginations (gently) running riot but all the acts, be they old or new, are united by their enthusiasm and the fact that they have given their services and indeed recordings for free. The hope is that long term Talk Talk fans will discover some new likeminded loves among these acts, while followers of these current vagabonds will be exposed to the joys of the Talk Talk oeuvre.

‘Spirit Of Talk Talk’ then: 30 tracks. Two compact discs. Several labours of love. Perhaps even a notorious perfection-ist such as Mark Hollis would appreciate the effort put into this project. Now, that’s the spirit...

Thavius Beck was still in single digits when he knew music was his passion. He played both the tenor and altosaxophone early on and by his teens he picked up the bass as well. He had a natural affinity towards theinstruments, so much so that Thavius’ mother enrolled him in a summer art camp at the age of 12. This wouldmark the first time Thavius would work on a sequencer, Ensoniq SQ-2, and a sampler, Roland S-50,simultaneously. Though the idea of being able to sample and sequence was not foreign to him, Thavius had anold Casio SK-1 at home, this was the first time he had the technology to be able to explore the possibilities atlength. Needless to say, it was a very formative and foreshadowing experience.

Tumult at the homefront led to Thavius’ departure from Minneapolis to LA at 16. It was a bit of an adjustmentsettling in Los Angeles, but it didn’t take long for him to find his niche. Within months, Thavius, going by thealias Adlib from his days as a jazz saxophonist, met and joined the crew that would become GlobalPhlowtations. Because of his early proclivity towards samplers and productions as well as towards rapping,Thavius became a very integral part of the crew, producing, rapping on and engineering the vast majority of theirfirst underground classic, Phlowtation Devices, in the mid-nineties. His central role in the crew naturally lead tohim being one of the first members to record his own solo self-produced material, the project Vs. After a fewmore projects with the crew, Thavius began branching out more on his own. He collaborated with local labelsand experimented with different sounds, from a live, straight to mini-disc album to a remix project. The attentiongarnered from those releases led to interest from MUSH Records.

Thavius, working at the famed Amobea record store in Hollywood at the time, dropped his Adlib alias for hisfirst full-length project under his given name. 2004’s Decomposition helped establish Thavius as one of the trail-blazers of new electronic-fused hip hop music. Sometime after Decomposition, Thavius gave Busdriver a batchof beats to consider for his Fear Of A Black Tangent album.

Busdriver happened to be playing the music one day while Saul Williams was visiting. Saul was impressedenough and called Thavius on the spot. Very soon afterwards, Thavius produced “Act 3 Scene 2” for Saul’s self-titled album, a cut that featured Zack De La Rocha. Even sooner after that, Saul asked Thavius to play bass andtrigger samples in his band on the road. After a bit Saul decided Thavius was all the band he needed and the twospent considerable time touring. The collaborative energy spilled over into the studio while Saul was working onhis Niggy Tardust record, which gave Thavius the chance to work alongside Trent Reznor.

Thavius released THRU and Dialogue, the latter being the first entire record of Thavius’ rhymes over his owncompositions in years. But then took a break with his solo efforts to instead spend time collaborating withvarious underground luminaries like Subtitle, K-the-i??? and Busdriver, even landing a remix for Nas along theway. In addition, his tech-savvy found him being one of the first to really embrace and understand the power ofAbleton. He became a certified Ableton trainer and began designing and teaching courses for Dubspot, a musicschool based in New York with online classes as well. He’s also had various training seminars at the IndependentTheatre in downtown LA.

Thavius has spent quite some time crafting The Most Beautiful Ugly, his official follow up to Dialogue anddebut release on Plug Research Records. Originally made with no definite purpose in mind, the man who citesJean Luc Ponty’s electronic jazz fusion as inspiration notes that this is the record that so far best encapsulatesthe ‘Thavius Beck sound.’ A true original who has survived the ebb and flow of trends and hype, Thavius is aveteran in his realm.

Key Selling Points:• The Most Beautiful Ugly is the 4th “official” full-length album from Thavius Beck and his first on Plug Research. The previous three (Decomposition (2004), THRU (2006) and Dialogue (2009)) were released by MUSH Records.• He’s worked with the likes of Saul Williams, Busdriver and Trent Reznor and contributed remixes for Nine InchNails, Daedelus, Busdriver, Nas and more!• A digital EP was released Februray 2012 entitled The Heavens Bleed Sunshine was given away to his fans for freefor an email and it still has over 16,000 streams on the Plug Research Soundcloud page.• Beck is a certified Ableton trainer. He’s designed and teaches courses for Dubspot, a music school based in NewYork with online classes as well. Thavius has held various training seminars at the Independent Theatre in downtownLA. as well.• Tour: West Coast and East Coast dates will be announced shortly!• Press/Radio: Radio will be handled by Co-Sign Collective focusing on collge/internet/satellite radio. SEAN HAYES“[First single] ‘Miss Her When I’m Gone’ offers an appealing look at a very appealing songwriter—one who’s poised to get the recognition he deserves.” - Paste Magazine

“A singular urban/backwoods sound and vision… extraordinary.” - San Francisco Chronicle

OVERVIEW

Before We Turn to Dust, San Francisco-based songwriter Sean Hayes’ newest release, was written and recorded in the same year he became a father. You can hear the love and struggle throughout. There is something raw and down-home about this music. Simple and straightforward the piano, guitar, drums, bass, occasional horns and back-up singing surround his warm, vibrato-laden voice that leads the way down “side street alleys” or to “that spot with the jukebox where we can sing your favorite tune.” Like great Country or Soul music these songs tell simple stories that also make you want to move.

Hayes is notably accompanied by veterans Andrew Borger (Tom Waits/Norah Jones) on drums, Devin Hoff (The Nels Cline Singers, Xiu Xiu) on bass and relative new comers Ezra Lipp (Thao + The Get Down Stay Down) on drums and multi-instrumentalist Eric Khun (Silian Rail) on keys, drums and percussion. The record was mixed by Eli Crews (tUnE-yArDs) at New and Improved Recording in Oakland CA.

Blending “vintage fuzz pedal jams with early space rock and shoegaze” for over a decade, HOPEWELL's tumultuous canon is the perfect cinematic bridge between the psychedelia of nineties acts like Spiritualized and Mercury Rev and the genre's newer generation (read: Black Mountain, Serena-Maneesh). HOPEWELL's Another Music EP is a collection of songs culled from an endless recording project that began in 2009 during a tour and special appearance alongside My Bloody Valentine. HOPEWELL recorded a handful of covers intended to feature David Baker (Mercury Rev's original singer, who had disappeared from music 15 years earlier) on lead vocals. Dave showed up but in the end (for reasons he was unable to articulate) declined to participate. Determined to work with one of their shoegaze heroes, the band reached out to Mark Gardener, lead singer of the genre defining RIDE. The happy result is the EP's lead cut; a cover of Brian Eno's "Needle In The Camel's Eye" featuring Gardener's amazing voice. Another Music also features the catchy, Clinic-esque "The King & The Canary", the chaotic transcendental drone of "The Six Knowables" and two tracks assembled from found sounds and excerpts of previous records, including recordings made at the famed Tarbox Road Studios (Flaming Lips, MGMT) augmented by the insane outsider skronk of avant-garde saxophonist Mark Marinoff (Chemical Brothers). Hearing is believing!

• New music from the celebrated Brooklyn, NY quintet that has made its name at countless international festival appearances, live shows alongside My Bloody Valentine and The Flaming Lips-curated All Tomorrow's Parties!

• Features a special guest appearance by Mark Gardener of RIDE on the Brian Eno classic "Needle In The Camel's Eye." The release of the Another Music EP coincides with the 20th anniversary of RIDE's “Going Blank Again” tour.

• A music video for "Needle In The Camel's Eye" directed by Art Boonparn (The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Cold Cave) will make its world premiere soon!

• U.S. touring expected in support of Another Music. Whispers are that HOPEWELL will team up with RIDE for what will surely be highly anticipated live appearances!

• Publicity and marketing to be handled by ACTION! PR (Fun Fun Fun Fest, Sweet Apple, Whirr).

• Signed to Tee Pee Records, the renowned NYC rock label known for releases by The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Warlocks and Witch.

The Raveonettes Sharin Foo and Sune Rose Wagner are excited to announce the release of their new album “Observator,” out September 11th on VICE Records. Throughout their impressive career the Danish duo has explored sonic territories ranging from lush pop song’s to reverb drenched soundscapes and continually celebrated life through songwriting.
