Registration Prices do not include taxes; 5% GST will be added to most programs (children’s programs exempt).

Payment is due at time of registration & should be received at least a week prior to program start. There are a limited number of spaces available in most programs.

Cheques or money orders can be made payable to Slocan Valley Recreation. NSF cheques will have a $20 admin fee. If mailing a cheque, please include your name, phone number and the course(s) you are wishing to register for.

Connecting with your baby: Infant Massage (Birth to Walking)

StrongStart Centre, Winlaw

Connect with your little one and enjoy this four session Infant Massage course with Jerri Schmidt from the West Kootenay Infant Development Program. Known benefits of infant massage include improved circulation, sensory stimulation, attachment, sleep, body awareness and digestion. Childcare for older preschool siblings will be provided on-site.

A mix of unstructured and cooperative play activities will be offered, and each month will bring something new.

Early Outdoor Adventurers (3-5 yrs)

Slocan Park Hall The importance of outdoor play cannot be overemphasized. Young adventurers will explore the natural living world safely and in an emotionally satisfying group setting. A mixture of play opportunities, observations of the cycles of nature, artistic activities, natural material construction, games & storytelling will encourage a rich experience that supports social, emotional and intellectual development. Stars for Success offers financial support to families with children under the age of 6 who would like to enroll in recreation, art, music, preschool and early learning community programs. Parents or caregivers can apply for up to $100 per child per year.

Canadian Tire Jump StartJumpstart is a program that provides financial support to enable children to take part in sports and recreational activities. Our Magical Earth: Create Play Learn (5-8 yrs) Winlaw School

Experience the magic all around you and join us as we explore our super-natural world through stories, games, crafts and outdoor adventures. Using the medicine wheel as a template, this program incorporates an eco-psychology philosophy and encourages respect for others and all life through play and creative expression. Theme days (fairies, Jedi training, etc.) are designed to celebrate children’s natural curiosity and imagination and to support the holistic health of mind, body and spirit!

Time to limber up, stretch, move, skip and run to the rhythms of games from around the globe!  In this 8 week program, youth will have a chance to learn about the origins and spirit of street games that other kids are playing in different parts of the world. Rediscover the joy and spontaneity of inclusive neighborhood games like: kick the can, capture the flag, double-dutch and much more. Youth will get to develop their balance, flexibility, communication and teamwork skills all wrapped up as loads of FUN!

This weekly intro to running will offer the social support and instruction you need to build endurance and enjoy fun trail runs. World class High Jumper Heinz Peter shares his love for the sport by opening his practice session to the public. All levels and ages are welcome to come out and give it a try. Most workplaces in BC are required to have at least one first-aid attendant on-site at all times and more is better. This course is equivalent to Occupational First Aid Level 1 and is recognized by WorkSafe BC. Exploring Design – Geometry and Nature’s Patterns (adult)Threads Guild

In this series of 4 workshops, students will travel on an explorative adventure into the process of design. Taking up the tools of the geometer and inspiration from nature around us, we will learn to create meaningful designs for use in textile and fibre art projects. Within the universal principles of geometry and nature’s patterns is a rich world of symbolism, transformation and beauty. We can invite this inspiration into our art and design for home and adornment. In these classes, students will develop designs through activities in geometry, drawing, printmaking and painting on paper with discussion and guidance in how to transfer these designs into fiber art projects.

Sculpting the Perfect Pumpkin (all ages)

Sleep is for Sissies

Everyone is welcome to join in on this fun seasonal event hosted by local sculptor David Ducharme. Explore the possibilities of creating beautiful works of art – ranging from realistic faces to good old fashioned Jack-o-lanterns. David will share a range of tips and tricks to help you achieve the best results. Some sculpting tools will be available on site, but please bring your own if you have them. Christmas Tea For Seniors(Seniors)

This free annual event offers a variety of entertainment, refreshments and the company of friends. It’s a great way for those over 55 to get together for a fun afternoon. If you’re a performer (of any age) who: loves to sing/play Christmas Carols; you have a group of friends that share that love or are in a choir, and would like to join us in a “Norman Rockwell” community event, please contact the office to sign-up as one of our volunteer acts! We’re looking to have a 1-2 hour Carol Festival that welcomes and includes everyone from one end of the Valley to the other. PaSSMORE LODGE FITnESS PROGRaMS FOR 50+ This selection of FREE programs for those 50+ is run by the Slocan Valley Seniors’ Housing Society and is made possible with a grant from the Columbia Basin Trust. Fitness with Myra Duff (Fall Only)Once again, Myra will be leading the fitness section of our Community Outreach Program. She is well qualified and an enthusiastic instructor who gears her sessions to the needs and wishes of participants. This program will run for 8 weeks.

Open Gym At The LodgeSeniors who have been assessed by Myra and checked out on the use of equipment, may use the Lodge’s top-notch equipment during open gym hours. For safety reasons, you should arrange to work out with a buddy.
