Autoretrato (Self-portrait) Olga Cuculescu | 60 x 80 cm, oil on canvas The artwork represents the reality of those who are dependent on glasses. The world appears blurry without glasses. On the other hand, reality is like an illusion where the person can find whatever they can imagine but not the real image. Real life is reflected through the gradu- ated glasses, and the improving vision transforms colors into figures, blurriness into sharpness, and shadows into light. The smile of a child can appear when seen through the glass. The graduated glass is the filter of reality for the person. Olga Cuculescu is a Moldavian artist who received her education in Bucharest, Moldova, and Spain. She combines musical activities with painting. She has received art awards in the Republic of Moldavia, Lat- in America, and Spain. She is a sensitive artist who translates feelings into paintings with multidimensional colorful artwork. Description by Jorge L. Alió The “Miradas” competition was created by Jorge Alió, Journal of Refractive Surgery Editorial Board Member, and his wife, Maria Lopez, in 1998 with the intention of using artistic sensibility to bring society’s attention to the phenomenon of sight, vision, and blindness. “Miradas,” which means glances, is a contest in which artists from Spain and several Latin American countries submit paintings dealing with the topic of sight and the prevention of blindness. Each cover of the Journal of Refractive Surgery features paintings that were submitted to this competition. “Miradas” is sponsored by Schwind Eye-Tech-Solutions. The artwork represents the reality of those who are dependent on glasses. The world appears blurry without glasses. On the other hand, reality is like an illusion where the person can find whatever they can imagine but not the real image. Real life is reflected through the gradu-ated glasses, and the improving vision transforms colors into figures, blurriness into sharpness, and shadows into light. The smile of a child can appear when seen through the glass. The graduated glass is the filter of reality for the person.

Olga Cuculescu is a Moldavian artist who received her education in Bucharest, Moldova, and Spain. She combines musical activities with painting. She has received art awards in the Republic of Moldavia, Lat-in America, and Spain. She is a sensitive artist who translates feelings into paintings with multidimensional colorful artwork.
