This “gap” in coverage causes NGOs:

✤ To suffer unnecessary loss of life and suffering while traditional (slower) measures struggle to overcome damaged infrastructure (roads, ports, and airfields)

✤ To omit certain remote areas that cannot be reached by conventional measures

✤ To lose donor support (and media coverage) due to perceived slow responses

Identified LimitationsCurrently, international NGOs have difficulty delivering across “the Last Mile” due to:

✤ Damaged infrastructure such as roads, ports, and airfields

✤ Convoy security concerns due to bandits, military/political factions

✤ Lack of transportation and distribution assets following disasters

✤ Political implications (sovereignty, threat of coup/invasion, etc.) of having the military forces deliver relief supplies

• In 2015, the WFP alone, assisted 76.7

million people in 81 countries.

• In 2016, they estimate they will reach 82

million in 76 countries.

• The demand is only increasing…

8

In 2015, there were:

✤ Six (6) Level 3 Emergencies (Highest Level demanding immediate responses)

✤ 32 Emergency Operations (EMOPS)-Immediate relief required

✤ 60 Protracted Relief, Recovery & Resilience Ops (PRRROs) Sustained Operations

In 2014:

✤ WFP alone air dropped 36,831 metric tons of relief supplies and were constrained by delivering only to protected, manned, drop zones.

✤ UNHAS Airdrops increased in 2015 to 45,203 MT of food across 1,636 different drops.

SkyLIFE will open up an entirely new market– one that can “reach the unreachable…”
