Only 3 Percent of Organizations Have Optimized Cloud Strategies* Increasingly, organizations worldwide are transitioning to cloud computing to increase revenue, reduce costs, and decrease time to market, and cloud adoption continues to fuel many digital transformation initiatives. In fact, according to a 2016 IDC study sponsored by Cisco and spanning more than 6100 organizations and 31 countries, the second wave of cloud adoption continues to advance , with almost 68 percent of the organizations using some form of cloud computing. Increased cloud adoption is fueled by cloud-native applications, including security and the Internet of Thing (IoT), with 29 percent of cloud adopters using cloud-based IoT applications. However, few companies (2.9 percent) have optimized cloud strategies in place. Obstacles to achieving greater cloud maturity include skill gaps, existing traditional siloed organizational structures, and misalignment between IT and lines of business.

Private cloud deployments remain an essential part of the mix: 54 percent of the organizations surveyed are adopting private clouds, and 52 percent are adopting public clouds. Organizations expect to increase on-premises private cloud spending by 40 percent over the next two years. Among cloud adopters, 73 percent have some form of hybrid cloud strategy in place today.

The Cisco Domain Ten® framework is a holistic methodology designed to help you transform your IT organization and align your technology with your business goals (Figure 2).

Organizations that are the furthest along in cloud adoption are now achieving on average US$3 million in additional revenue per cloud application per year. The most mature cloud organizations are defined by their use of DevOps, hybrid cloud and multicloud environments, microservices architectures, and containers (specifically Docker). Furthermore, they expect to be able to choose among multiple cloud providers based on location, policies, and governance principles and have implemented collaborative business and IT governance policies to do so.

Strategy and Change Management IT Transformation Services for DevOps To use multicloud and cloud-native technologies to promote digital transformation, you must transform not only your technical stack but also people and processes. Cloud Professional Services can accelerate your time to value with capabilities spanning environment readiness, Cisco CloudCenter configuration, application profile modeling, deployment, multicloud governance, and policy setup.

Application and Cloud Migration Case StudyOne large national U.S. retailer accelerated movement to a private cloud on the Cisco Unified Computing System™ (Cisco UCS) for more than 60 business-critical applications.
