Luke 2:25-35Now there was a man in Jerusalem

whose name was Simeon; this man was righteous and devout, looking forward to

the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit rested on him. It had been

revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had

seen the Lord’s Messiah.

Luke 2:25-35Guided by the Spirit, Simeon came into

the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him

what was customary under the law, Simeon took him in his arms and praised

God, saying,

Luke 2:25-35‘Master, now you are dismissing your

servant in peace, according to your word;

for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the

presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles

and for glory to your people Israel.’

Luke 2:25-35And the child’s father and mother were

amazed at what was being said about him. Then Simeon blessed them and said to his mother Mary, ‘This child is destined for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be opposed so that the inner thoughts of many will be revealed—

and a sword will pierce your own soul too.’

It seems when you read the Bible that most people weren’t prepared for his coming.

On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise him, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had

given him before he had been conceived.When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been completed, Joseph

and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the law of the Lord,

Simeon’s Song

“Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord"), and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with

what is said in the law of the Lord: “A pair of doves or two young pigeons.”

Simeon’s Song

Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was

upon him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen

the Lord’s Christ. (Luke 2:25-26)

As Simeon ages, he knows it can’t be long. The Lord’s Christ must be coming at any moment.

Simeon’s Song

As Mary gives the infant Jesus to Simeon, the thought hits him, “I am holding the salvation of

the world in my arms.”

Simeon’s Song

Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in

the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel.

He is the Glory of Israel

He is the Savior of the World

Simeon’s Song

He is the Divider of the Human Race

Simeon’s Song

The joy of Christmas leads on to the agony of Good Friday. He was born to end up that way.

He’s the Messiah of Israel. Do you know him?

He’s the Great Divider of Mankind. Do you know him?

It’s Christmastime. He came for you.
