Reaction to trauma is normal afterexperiencing a life-altering event.

However, symptoms lasting more than3 months that disrupt your life are asign that your reactions to the event

have turned to PTSD.

PTSD is a very serious disorder thataffects many who have gone through

traumatic events. A high percentage ofveterans experience PTSD afterreturning from service. Anyone

experiencing the following signs orsymptoms should seek help

immediately.

Reliving the Trauma

Anything from nightmares to flashbacks can reignite the same

feelings that were present when the traumatic event occurred.

Additionally, anything related to said event can be a trigger,

and can leave you feeling like the event is happening all over

again.

Avoidance

You may find that reminders of the traumatic event exist in

many places. PTSD sufferers tend to avoid normal situations

like getting caught in crowds, or something as simple as driving

down a road, in fear that they will trigger memories of the

event.

Change in or Lack of Emotion

Those experiencing PTSD find their views of the world altered

in a negative way. They may be overwhelmed by a lack of

feeling, or will bottle up emotions in order to keep negative

ones at bay.

Hyperarousal

Those suffering from PTSD will find it difficult to relax, as they

are constantly ready to face danger. This comes with an

inability to sleep, trouble concentrating, and being startled by

loud noises.

Other Symptoms

Other symptoms of PTSD include trouble controlling emotions,

depression, drifting away from family and friends, and

exhibiting self-destructive behavior.
