(BRIEF HISTORY)

Σ Γ Λ stands for a Greek letter Sigma Gamma Lambda which is an International

Collegiate Service Fraternity and Sorority. It is a college and professional based organization founded by 11 high school students led by Mr. Edgardo Consolacion at Holy Angels Academy in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines on March 1, 1972. Members are dignitary called as Lambdans.

The organization was established on the principle of lifetime brotherhood and sisterhood. Those gaining memberships pledge to uphold the fraternity's three cardinal virtues of UNITY, SERVICE and LEADERSHIP.

On September 22, 1973, the founder brought the organization at Central Mindanao University in Musuan, Bukidnon and instituted the Gamma Chapter. The constitution and by-laws were ratified. Motto, vow, seal and loyalty were adopted. The esoteric rituals so the characteristics of fraternities were completed. A year later, the Lambda Chapter at Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan, Cagayan de Oro City was established.

Through years, the organization continues to expand and develop. It is now being felt by the major colleges and universities in the Philippines and has established a closely-knit enclave in Middle East, Asia, Europe, USA and other continents around the world. It is nurtured into a strong and dynamic student movement, surviving on its own obstacles and foresees a brighter future.

Lambdans are committed to the standards of excellence. Although their numbers are small but Lambdans are always united in principle.
