Introducing the Sight-Words FireworksActivityChoose a group of students to play the Sight-Words Fireworks Activity with you for the class.Explain the object of the game and how to playto the volunteers. With the rest of the classgathered around, model playing the game.

Playing Sight-Words Fireworks ActivityNumber of Players: 2 to 5 Object: To be the player with the most Cardsat the end of the game.How to Play:

1. Determine who will go first.2. The first player pulls a Card from

the Container.

• If a player pulls a word Card, theplayer reads the word on the Card;and when the player reads it correctly,he or she selects another Card fromthe Container and continues.

• If the player has difficulty reading theword, reads the word incorrectly, orcan't read the word, other players orthe teacher should provide an assist.

• If a player pulls a Boom! Card, theplayer's turn ends, and he or shepasses the Container to the player tothe left.

• If a player pulls a Take One! Card, theplayer takes a Card from one of theother players, reads the Card, andkeeps it.

3. Play continues until all of the word Cardshave been read.

4. At the end of the game, the player withthe most Cards wins.

This is a game for two players. Give one playersix Boom! Cards and give the other player sixTake One! Cards. Without looking at them, theplayers randomly select nine word Cards fromthe Container and place them in the spaceson the Sight Word Tic-Tac-Toe BoardReproducible facedown. Determine who goesfirst. In turn, each player turns over one Card,reads it, and if correct, places one of theirBoom! Cards or Take One Cards on that space.The player who gets three Cards in a row wins.
