In a dense urban neighborhood of Tollygunge, a prominent location in the megalopolis Kolkata, the proposed housing design aims to find an optimized balance of habitable and open spaces. The spacious distribution of the high rise housing towers provides adequate climatological comfort to the residential units within them and complements it with the green recreational facilities that adds a social value to the project overall. Parks, play courts, gymnasium, community hall, swimming pools etc are programmed in the complex allowing the residents to participate in such activities within the greenery in midst of a the residents to participate in such activities within the greenery in midst of a dense urban surrounding.

Since Sikkim is a Buddhist and Hindu majority state, the people there have a strong connection with the Vedic mythology. The main concept behind this design is that of the “cosmic egg” or “Hiranyagarbha”, as said in the Rig Veda. The “cosmic egg” represents a beginning of some sort and the universe or some other being comes into existence by “hatching” from the egg.
The cosmic egg relates to scientific theory also where the current scientific model is that the entire mass of the universe, 13.8 billion years ago was compressed into a gravitational singularity. The universe came into being after the big bang or “hatching”. Thus it represents contemporary knowledge allied with old teachings.allied with old teachings.
The Upanishads elaborate that the Hiranyagarbha floated around in the emptiness for a while, and the broke into two halves which formed “Dyaus” (heaven) and “Prithvi” (earth).

In the “Kalevala”, the Finnish national epic, there is a myth of the world being created from the fragments of an egg laid by a diving duck on the knee of “Ilmatar”, goddess of the air. The cracked egg’s lower half transformed and became the Earth below, while the upper half transmuted and became the sky above. From the yolk, the Sun was made.

The cocoon-shaped halls give a sense of warmth and coziness despite being vast. Considering the cold climate prevalent in the region, this has been done so that the users find themselves at ease with the surroundings despite the harsh climatic conditions. Adequate glazing has been provided on the roofs and walls to decrease claustrophobia and also to aid greenhouse effect.

The design is of an advocate’s residence at Alipore, Kolkata. Keeping in mind the climatic conditions prevelant in the area and also the occupational and personal needs of the client, the residence has been designed to achieve the necessary requirements. There are plenty of openings and large windows to aid ventilation within the residence to overcome the hot and humid climate.
The residence has an adjoining office for personal use of the advocate. The The residence has an adjoining office for personal use of the advocate. The residential and work zones are separated by their respective entries yet they are integrated as a whole. Large balconies and half terraces give a sense of openess to the residents.

TOUREDUCATIONAL AT LUCKNOW2ND YEAR PROJECT
Lucknow owes its prominence and fame to Nawab Asaf-ud-Daulah, the fourth Nawab of Awadh, who shifted the capital from Faizabad to Lucknow in 1775 one of the most unique buildings that Asaf-ud-Daulah built was the Shahi Baoli.
ItIt was constructed around a large well that had been initially dug as a reservoir for storing water for construction work near the Imambara. it turned out to be a perennial source of water, being connected under ground with the river flowing nearby. It would have remained there as a well, but Asaf-ud-Daulah who had a desire to build unique buildings, buildings, ordered it to be built as a guest-house - the Shahi Mehmaan Khana.
Only a small part of the Shahi Baoli, towards the Imambara , remains and exists today in the form of a double arched gateway and an open staircase that leads to the well along with a five storeyed structure formed with open archways and galleries that interconnect.
ItIt is believed that there are two more storeys of the palace submerged below. The water in the well, appears green and covered with algae, yet when a coin is dropped, it can be seen for quite sometime, going deep into the well and vanishing.

URBANDESIGN
FIELDWORKURBAN STUDY AT KOLKATA4TH YEAR PROJECT
Urban design is both a product and a process. As a product, urban design ranges in scale from parts of an environment, such as a streetscape, to the larger wholes of districts, towns, cities, or regions. As a process and a conscious act, urban design involves the art of shaping the built landscape which has been formed over time by many different actors.
To meet people’s high aspirations a random development is To meet people’s high aspirations a random development is happening everywhere in the city of Kolkata, which is leading to uncontrolled vertical growth, horizontal expansion, non-integrative urban form creating placelessness, and a general lack of imageability. To give a proper direction to these haphazard developments, there is a need for studying these areas to understand their spatial qualities and create a cohesive development scenario.development scenario.
