    special areas such as

    display/event

areas and to directattention towards specific

    car models.

    Basic lighting serves the needs

The best source oflighting for jewelry isCeramic Metal

    Halide.

They are energy efficient, powerful (lumens over6000),

come in warm and coolcolors (3000K to 4200K)

has excellent CRI (over 80and in most cases over 90CRI) and

    can provide foot-candles

    that can exceed 400.

The next preferredlight is the halogen

    bulb.

    They are hot,

    have lower CRI's,

do not maintain theircolor over the life of thebulb and

are about a quarter to athird of power of aceramic metal halide.

Fluorescentsareenergy efficient. Butthey do not projectenough power to beuseful in a jewelry

    store when it comesto illuminatingmerchandise.

    TRACK LIGHTING

Most versatile as fixtures can be moved and repositioned with ease

    RECESSED LIGHTING

    This provides the sleekest look

The limitations are that the store owner will be limited in their abilityto add or decrease light.

Repairs are cumbersome as electricians have to deal with holes inceiling

    PENDANT LIGHTING

Pendants are a great way to bring a light source closer to theshowcases where the ceilings are high and the store owners do notwant to spend the money required to add additional lights tocompensate for high ceilings

Diamonds require a bright white light that provides enough power to makethem sparkle.

Diamonds should be shown under lights that are in the 4000 -4200K range. This provides a

beautiful white color that stops short of taking on blue color qualities. Gold and warmer colored stones look the best under warmer colored lights 3000K to 3500K.

The amount of light to properly illuminate jewellery is 200 fc

Have ambient or general lighting be warmer and less powerful than thelighting over the showcases.

When lighting a window display that has natural sunlight shining into it usetwice the amount of light that would be commonly used over a showcase inorder to combat the power of the sun.

The best lighting for inside a case is LED. Be careful though when choosing

the LED to make sure that the color of the light is not blue .
