Should violent music be banned?Music has always been one of the best means of expression people had. The issue regarding whether violent music should be banned or not has been much debated recently. There are people who claim that violent music is the leading reason why the rate of violence is increasing, whereas others argue that violent music is simply a reflection of peoples feelings and there are no relevant arguments that music promotes violence. As far as Im concerned, I am inclined to believe that music should never be banned, irrespective of its violent or strong message, because it is a form of expressing peoples feelings and opinions. If all violent music was banned, the right for freedom of expression would be offended. First of all, music is defined in the dictionary as vocal and instrumental sound combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion. Throughout history, many musical genres have developed alongside with changes in society. One of the best-known forms of violent music is hip-hop or rap, typical of African-Americans. The violence and abrasive attitudes expressed through rap songs is merely a reflection of the violence that many urban dwellers deal with daily in America. I believe that people shouldnt denounce rappers without having assessed all the factors affecting their music. Not all rap songs have a negative impact on people, despite of their aggressive message. Rap music portrays the rappers true feelings and experiences: homelessness, poverty, unemployment, gang ties and cruelty. The black community has its right for freedom of expression and we shouldnt take it away from them.Nevertheless, there are rappers who promote abrasive and hostile attitudes towards women and other acts of violence towards kinship. For example, Honey Singh is a rapper, music producer and singer who was banned in India for his music which promotes rape and violence against women. I definitely assent with the authorities measurements.Secondly, another musical targeted for inciting violence is heavy metal. It has been a source of controversy since its origin in the 1980s. Heavy metal typically contains aggressive music, accompanied by violent lyrics. Many people have claimed that metal has a strong negative impact on teenagers, contributing to the increasing of suicide and violence rate. Although studies have been conducted among its listeners, there are no relevant arguments for it being harmful. On the contrary, most listeners claim that metal is benign and may assuage anger, depression, and pain. To conclude, I strongly believe that everyone has the freedom of listening to what they like. Nobody has the right to ban a style of music. Those who do not enjoy it shall never listen to it.
