A lot of music magazines feature bands on the cover. To include the entire band, a group shot is taken. As you can see from the images, the ‘main artist’ of the band, often the lead singer, is positioned centre of the image with the other members stood a little further back, either side. This positioning of the members will attract readers, as a lot of people would recognise a band by the lead singer as they’re usually the most popular. e.g. Arctic Monkeys usually recognised by Alex Turner. As you can see from the images, the ‘main artist’ of the band, often the lead singer, is positioned centre of the image with the other members stood a little further back, either side. Medium ShotA medium shot often exposes the subject from the head to the waist. The medium shot is the most popular shot type used for the cover of magazines. This is because it clearly shows the subjects clothing, accessories and body language, whilst still allowing you to see their facial expressions. Medium shots are often used when the main image only includes one or two people.

Close-UpClose-Up shots mainly focus on the subjects face. A close-up shot is good for both the magazine and the artist, as they are fully exposed to the audience. A close-up shot will also create a more personal feeling between the audience and the artist, as you’re looking right at them up close. The artist is usually looking directly at the camera, as if they are making direct eye contact with you.

Long ShotA long shot allows us to see a full image of somebody – from head to foot. Long shots are often used to allow us to see a celebrities full outfit, or it can also be used when a celebrity is holding a prop such as a guitar, or doing a different pose.

Long shots often allow more room around the image for cover lines and smaller images, as the subject of a long shot would take up much less room on a page as apposed to a close up or medium shot.
