Shot Analysis of ‘Enchanted’ Clip

The first shot is the New York skyline at night. I like this because it sets the scene for the meal between the protagonists. This is a very cliché of Disney to do this as it indicates towards the up and coming sequence. It is easy for the audience to follow through the film. After they set the scene, they fade and transition onto the couple. This is effective because it shows fluidity.

The music in this scene is Italian and the romantic song “That’s Amore”, clearly indicative of the couple. The song is reflected in the setting; there’s a “big pizza pie” on the table and the “moon hits” their eyes as it in shown in the sky. This is ideal for us as we want our music to also correlate with the scene.

The genre of the film is a magical fantasy that’s been hit into reality, which is reflected in the action of the characters. In this scene, the male character plays a magic trick on the female lead. This is clever as every detail that would be in an animated film is also incorporated in the reality as well.

When he repeats the magic trick, they use a shot reverse shot to get an in depth character expression detailing her reaction and his cheekiness. This lets the audience know the character’s exposition.

The dialogue between the two characters is innocent for the target audience, suing child-like words like “wizard” which further enhances the genre of the film and her character coming from a magical kingdom.

Each character is in a center shot during the dialogue of an awkward conversation- “date”. This is to underscore the embarrassment and denial of the conversation, as well as showing the individual’s character's expression about it. The male lead if shocked and looks in the other direction shows his denial whereas her excitement and looking at him is shown though her smile.

They use a shot reverse shot again when changing the subject; this is effective as we see the contrasting emotions. Then the topic of conversation turns towards the ‘mother’, we again see the character’s discomfort.

A soft mellow music starts to play, again shifting the atmosphere into something light, positive and we see this through his gentle smile while he is reminiscing.

This two shot highlights the juxtaposition of contrasting beliefs and emotions between the two characters. It is quite ironic that we have a romantic setting but opposing beliefs in this shot.
