Head CoachAnthony PetruzziRaritan High SchoolIn his sixth season leading his alma mater, Petruzzi led

the Rockets to an unlikely state title with a brilliantpostseason run that delivered the program its secondsectional crown and first since 2004. A roller coaster season for Raritan ended at the top

when the Rockets stunned undefeated Lincoln, 28-26,to win the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group II title at KeanUniversity. Junior quarterback Marc Carnivale’s 11-yardtouchdown pass to senior wide receiver Nick Pasquin with10 seconds left in regulation capped a game-winning drive inthe final two minute to produce one of the great moments of

the season. Raritan began the season 3-0 before losing five straight to limp into the playoffs. Three of those

losses, however, were to Non-Public Group III finalist St. John Vianney, Central Jersey Group IIIfinalist Red Bank and Central Jersey Group III champion Rumson-Fair Haven. The playoffs beganwith Raritan at 3-5, but Petruzzi’s squad went on the road and beat Point Boro, 17-7, toavenge a 33-27 regular-season loss to the Panthers. The Rockets then crushed DelawareValley, 42-13, to reach the sectional championship game and took care of Holmdel, 46-25,on Thanksgiving. The Rockets had a top 10 offense in the Shore, averaging 28.4 points pergame, and also had the Shore Conference’s leading rusher, senior Derek Ernst, who ran for1,777 yards and 23 touchdowns. Carnivale was sixth in the Shore in passing with 1,598 yardsand 16 touchdowns. Senior receivers Jordan Smith and Nick Pasquin each had over500 receiving yards while junior linebacker Ryan Dickens, who is committed toUConn, was fifth in the Shore in tackles with 127.Petruzzi is a 1999 graduate of Raritan High School and played in the 1999

Gridiron Classic. He graduated from Montclair State in 2004 and begancoaching as an assistant at Raritan in 2001 while he was still on college. Hewas an assistant when Raritan went 12-0 and won the Central Jersey Group IItitle in 2004 for the program’s first state championship. He succeeded BobGenerelli as head coach starting in 2010.

Head CoachDave OizerowitzToms River North In his third season at the helm of one of Ocean County’s most storied programs,Oizerowitz guided the Mariners to their sixth NJSIAA title and the No. 2 ranking inthe Shore Conference to earn Ocean County Coach of the Year honors.Toms River North finished 11-1 and secured its first state sectional titlesince going undefeated in 2007 by beating Williamstown, 14-7, in theSouth Jersey Group V title game at RowanUniversity. The Mariners won their final 10 games ofthe season and won arguably the toughest publicschool bracket in the state to keep their perfect 6-for-6 recordin state championship games intact. Along the way, Toms

River North defeated eventual Central Jersey Group IV champion Jackson Memorial in Week 5and knocked off an undefeated Brick team in Week 8 to claim a share of the Class A Southdivision title. Toms River North’s defense was relentless in the state playoffs, allowing just14 total points in wins over Kingsway, Lenape and Williamstown. The Mariners’ offense wasone of the best in the Shore in averaging 33 points per game and producing two 1,000-yardrushers, quarterback Mike Husni and running back Asante Moorer, while Husni also passedfor over 1,000 yards. Oizerowitz has a 29-24 head coaching record in five seasons, which includes an 11-9record in two seasons at Lakewood. Toms River North went 1-9 with a young andinexperienced group in his first season in 2013, but made major progress to win a statechampionship just two seasons later. A 1992 graduate of Toms River South, Oizerowitz started his coaching career as anassistant at his alma mater in 1995 before moving on to coach at Lakewood at 1997. Hewas an assistant with the Piners until ascending to the head coach position in 2001.After the 2002 season Oizerowitz left Lakewood to join the coaching staff at Laceyfrom 2003-2004. He was the defensive coordinator at Toms River North under ChipLaBarca Jr. from 2006 until taking over as the head coach.

teve AntonucciIn 18 years as the head coach at Middletown South he has built one of

the most admired and respected programs in New Jersey. His record of170-37 includes six NJSIAA sectional titles and nine Shore Conferencedivisional championships and his most recent Eagles team finishedNo. 1 in the state following a perfect 12-0 season. The 2015Eagles started the season with great expectations and lived up toall of them, finishing with a 35-7 rout of Phillipsburg in the NorthJersey Section II, Group IV championship game at MetLifeStadium. Antonucci was honored as the Shore SportsNetwork Coach of the Year and was also saluted by the NewYork Giants and his peers in Class A North. He hascollected 14 different Coach of the Year honors during hisMiddletown South career.

Antonucci’s six state sectional titles ties him with retiredHall of Famers Warren Wolf and Mike Ciccotelli for secondon the all-time list among Shore Conference coaches, trailing only the late Vic Kubu, who won 11 during his HOFcareer. Ironically, Antonucci played his high school footballfor Ciccotelli at Keyport (Class of 1988) before moving on toMontclair State.

Antonucci was also the baseball coach at Middletown Southfor 15 years, winning three state and two divisional titles beforestepping down to devote all his energy to football and his family. For allhis success his coaching philosophy does not focus on championships but

rather to play the game the right way, havea positive impact on his players and do itwith class and dignity. Clearly he hasaccomplished those goals for nearly twodecades along with plenty of hardware.

Antonucci and his wife Tracy Dawn live inManasquan with their five children, Thomas,Jake, Jane, Michael and Matthew.

KevinCallahan

The only head coach in the history of footballat Monmouth, Kevin Callahan has developeda winning tradition in West Long Branch.Callahan, whose 131 wins is 13th amongactive coaches at the FCS level, ushered in anew era for MU football when the Hawksjoined the Big South Conference in 2014.

Beginning his 24th season at the helm ofthe Hawks, Callahan has amassed a 131-108record while his teams have captured fiveconference titles. Along the way, Monmouthhas been ranked among the top 20 in totaloffense on two occasions and in total defensefive times. Meanwhile, over 120 players haveearned conference recognition, whilenumerous Hawks have earned regional andnational honors. Regarded as an outstandingcoach by his peers, Callahan served as the

President of the FCSFootball CoachesCommittee in 2007-08and served a 10-yearterm as a member ofthe committee. Underhis watch, six formerHawks have earnedspots on NFL rosters, including Miles Austin, who was an All-Prowide receiver for theDallas Cowboys.

Academically, Callahan’s squads have consistently performed at a high level. Eight playershave been named to the prestigious FCS ADA Academic All-Star team (average of 55 FCSplayers selected per season) a total 11 times. Monmouth has had at least one representativeon the Capital One Academic All-District Team for each of the last 16 seasons, includingthree-time selection Joe Johnson, who was also a two-time Big South All-Academic Teammember. Monmouth has ranked second among Big South schools in the NCAA’s AcademicProgress Rate (APR) in each of the first two seasons the Hawks have been in the league. While a member of the Northeast Conference, Monmouth averaged 20 players per year onthe Academic Honor Roll (greater than a 3.2 cumulative GPA), and owned the highest teamgrade point average in two of its final three seasons in the league.

The 2015 campaign set a number of firsts for the program, including the Hawks first gameagainst an Football Bowl Subdivision opponent and its first win over a ranked opponent.Callahan and the Blue & White tripled its conference win total in just its second year in theBig South, finishing with a 3-3 record and a third-place conference finish. On October 17Monmouth upset conference foe and No. 22 ranked Liberty, 20-17 in overtime, giving theprogram its first win over a ranked opponent. One week later the Hawks would host top-ranked Coastal Carolina, falling to the Chanticleers on a last second field goal. In all,Monmouth faced a ranked opponent in four of its 11 games in 2015 while also playing CentralMichigan on September first in MU's first contest against an FBS squad. Seven Hawksearned All-Big South Honors while sophomore Mike Basile was named All-Big South and All-ECAC Second Team. Academically, Joe Johnson earned Academic All-District II and wasnamed to the Big South Academic All-Star Team for the second consecutive year.

Prior to accepting the head coaching position at Monmouth in August of 1992, Callahanserved as assistant coach at Colgate University for eight seasons. While with the Raiders,Callahan served as assistant head coach and defensive coordinator, while tutoring the

linebackers and secondary. Callahan groomed his defensive coordinating skills at WagnerCollege from 1981 to 1983. In 1980, Callahan served as an assistant coach under FrankMaloney at Syracuse University. He served as the assistant offensive backfield coach for theOrangemen.

A native of Elmira, N.Y., Callahan began his coaching career as a graduate assistant forthree seasons at the University of Albany from 1977 to 1979. Callahan was a two-yearstandout defensive back at the University of Rochester. He earned a bachelor’s degree inhistory from Rochester in 1977.

Callahan and his wife, Ann Marie, reside in Spring Lake Heights. They have two children,Kevin Jr. and Julia. His son Kevin Jr. is an offensive assistant at Columbia University.

Dick BrinsterHe was at the Asbury Park Press for only a short time

(1974-79) but the former Sports Editor left his mark asthe Godfather of what is now the U.S. Army All-ShoreGridiron Classic. After reading a news releaseannouncing the NJSIAA had approved the playing ofall-star games with the most-recently graduated playershe went to work and proposed the game to thenewspaper’s board of directors. It only took a fewminutes for them to agree to underwrite what would beknown as the All-Shore Football Classic, and in thesummer of 1978 the inaugural Monmouth-Ocean gamewas played at Wall Stadium. Nobody could haveimagined the instant success it would be and that firstgame started 30 minutes late to accommodate anoverflow crowd of more than 8,100 fans.

Brinster gives much of the credit for that to legendary Brick Township head coach WarrenWolf who gave the game instant credibility. When asked to coach the Ocean team in thatfirst game his response was what you would expect, “I would consider it a distinct honor.”While Wolf was known for wearing his customary grey suit on the sidelines the Monmouthcoach added some flamboyance which many remember quite well nearly four decades later.Manasquan’s Jack Hawkins emerged from a stretch limo in the middle of the field wearinga white tuxedo and bowing to a roaring crowd.

Brinster left The Press a year later to finish a 42-year journalism career with 26 at theAssociated Press, mostly covering NASCAR. However, he has great memories of thecoaches he had contact with during his days in the Shore area, especially Joe Boyd, forwhom this magnificent facility at his alma mater (Central Regional) is appropriately named. He also cited Barry Rizzo, Vic Kubu, Ron Signorino, Al Saner and John Amabile as coachinggiants of his era.

Brinster and his wife Janice have two sons and four grandchildren and are enjoyingretirement in Whiting.

When the 2015 season began, the Shore Conference was comingoff a record-setting season in which it had six NJSIAA statesectional champions crowned. Seeing what the conference did for anencore was something special. The Shore sent a record nine teams to state finals and once againcame away with six champions as it dominated championshipSaturday around New Jersey. Middletown South and Shore bothfinished undefeated, the first time the conference has had anunbeaten team since 2010. The Eagles went wire-to-wire as the No.1 team in the Shore Sports Network Top 10, and ended up finishingas the No. 1 team in New Jersey. The Blue Devils crushed everyonein their path to win their second straight Central Jersey Group Ititle and extend their program-record winning streak to 20 games.Jackson Memorial capped a brilliant turnaround to win its secondstraight Central Jersey Group IV title, while Rumson-Fair Havenwon the Battle of Ridge Road with Red Bank in the Central JerseyGroup III final to become just the fifth Shore Conference team toclaim three consecutive state championships.Raritan finished off one of the most memorable playoff runs inrecent years by stunning previously-unbeaten Lincoln with a last-minute, game-winning drive to win the Central Jersey Group IIcrown. Toms River North won what is usually considered thetoughest public school bracket in the state, South Jersey Group V,for its sixth sectional championship.St. John Vianney fell just short in its pursuit of perfection when itfell to DePaul in the Non-Public Group III final. After weeks of summer practice and 13 weeks of games, heroicsand heartbreak, disappointment and delirium, we present the final2015 Shore Sports Network Top 10.

Final Shore Sports Network Top 10 Recap1. Middletown South (12-0)

The Eaglessnapped their titledrought in a majorway by finishing 12-0 and capturing theNorth Jersey Section2, Group IV titlewith a 35-7 win overPhillipsburg for their10th state title andfirst since 2005. TheEagles started theseason by comingfrom behind to beateventual CentralJersey Group Vchampion SouthBrunswick and neverlooked back, storming through theShore Conference

schedule before dominating in the playoffs. The Eagles also captured the Class A Northdivision title, their first since 2009. The offense was fantastic again led by a dominantrunning game and efficient passing game, and averaged over 40 points per game. Seniortailback Cole Rogers ran for 1,570 yards and 24 touchdowns, and senior quarterbackMatt Mosquera threw for 1,509 yards and 19 touchdowns. Middletown South’s defensewas again among the best in New Jersey in allowing a conference-low 7.4 points pergame. Senior linebacker Dylan Rogers broke his own single-season program record fortackles with 132 and led the ferocious unit that also included standout linebackers JamesMcCarthy and Kevin Higgins, defensive backs Maxx Imsho and Tom Coffey, anddefensive linemen Will Gulick and Jake Krellin. Although Middletown South will loseseveral talented players to graduation, the Eagles have an outstanding junior class thatshould have them once again competing for a state championship and the top spot in theShore in 2016.

2. Toms River North (11-1) Arguably the most talented team in the Shore Conference, the Mariners put it all

together in 2015 to win their final 10 games and claim the South Jersey Group V titlewith a 14-7 win over Williamstown. After a 52-20 loss to Brick Memorial in Week Twothreatened to derail its season, Toms River North regrouped to start an epic run thatended with the program’s sixth sectional title. Among Toms River North’s wins was a33-23 victory over Central Jersey Group IV champion Jackson Memorial. The Marinersalso beat Brick 26-14 to clinch a share of the Class A South division title. In the playoffs, the Mariners’ defense came to life in allowing just 14 points in three games, which alsoincluded a 35-7 win over Kingsway and a 14-0 shutout of top-seeded Lenape in thesemifinals. The Mariners had one of the most dynamic offenses in the Shore with dual-threat junior quarterback Mike Husni and powerful senior running back Asante Moorer.Husni ran and threw for over 1,000 yards each and finished with over 2,500 yards oftotal offense and 31 touchdowns. Moorer ran for 1,550 yards and 17 touchdowns toform one of New Jersey’s most potent backfields. Senior defensive lineman DashonCopes had an amazing season with over 100 tackles and double-digit sacks for a unit thatfinished 10th in the Shore in scoring defense. Husni returns next season along with histop wide receivers, Darrion Carrington and Bryce Watts, plus running back DarynBlackwell, so the Mariners should once again be formidable on offense in 2016. Thedefense will also bring back standout linebacker Pete Laquaglia as the Mariners look tocontinue their resurgence.

3. St. John Vianney (11-1)The Lancers fell just short of perfection and the program’s first state title in 35 years

when they lost to three-time champion DePaul, 40-17, in the Non-Public Group III final. The Lancers have won 20 straight games against Shore Conference competition andwon 21 games in the last two seasons. Their 11 wins this year are a program record.Senior quarterback Anthony Brown capped a brilliant career with over 2,000 passingyards, 600 rushing yards and 43 total touchdowns for the No. 1 scoring offense in theShore Conference. The Lancers defeated Central Jersey Group III champion Rumson-Fair Haven, Central Jersey Group II champion Raritan and blasted defending Non-PublicGroup III champion Red Bank Catholic 49-6 in the finals for one of the program’sbiggest wins in decades. Senior wide receiver Mike Stapert led the Shore in receivingyards and junior Chris Chukwuneke fueled the running game with over 800 yards. Juniordefensive lineman Micah Clark, linebackers Calvin Beaty and Tyler Tedeschi, anddefensive backs Khalil Haskins and Jeff Sheard led a defense that finished sixth in theShore in points allowed. St. John Vianney will have to replace numerous talentedplayers, but is banking on continuing their run as one of the top programs in the Shore.
