Scenes from Shakespeare:

Eight SHMS students travelled to SRS, WES, and NPE to perform Scenes from Shakespeare to district third

graders. Rehearsals were held every other Monday from 2:30-5 p.m. December through April. The middle

school students who delighted third graders with their performance were 6th grader Chloe Cairncross; 7th grad-

ers Amy Crouch and Frank Durgin, and 8th graders Gracein Hoyle, Helen Everbach, Lizzy Ashbrook, Clayton

Francis, and Liam Feehery. Vignettes performed included scenes from Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, Taming of

the Shrew, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. The advisor is 8th grade language arts teacher Mary Reindorp.

Summer Reading:

To Parents of 7th graders: The Snake Fence is one of the recommended books on the reading list for rising 8th graders. The author, Janet Olshewsky, spoke to the 7th graders on May 6 about her newly published book. Copies are available from Mrs. Reindorp, 8th grade language arts teacher, for $15. If you would like to purchase a copy, please e-mail Mrs. Reindorp at [email protected]. Please include your child's name and Connections teacher/room number in the e-mail.

Volunteer Opportunities:

If any parent or guardian is looking for volunteering options in the Home and School Association for the

coming academic year, there are several positions (Co-chair, Hospitality Chair, Dimensions in Living

Girls’ Trac k Wins Delaware County Middle School Track Champs!

On Thursday, May 9, the Girls’ Track team completed their undefeated season by taking first place at the Cougar

Classic Carnival capturing the Delaware County Middle School Girls Track Championship.

The Girls’ track team won 7 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals on their way to scoring a record

140 points.

Gold medals were earned by: Morgan Folk – Long Jump, Emma Borgstram – High Jump, Rachel Kent –

Hurdles, Grace Haase - 70 meter 95 lb., India Legree - 70 meter 105 lb. , the 4 x 100 meter 95 lb.relay – (Grace

Haase, Valerie Henderson, Magdalia Campobasso, Olivia Parrente), the 4 x 100 meter 105 lb. relay – (Emma

Borgstram, Madison Snyder, India Legree, Diamonique Williams)

Silver Medals: Helen Qi – Hurdles, the 4 x 400 meter relay (Claire VanDuyne, Elizabeth DeCarlo,

Maurissa Ogunde, Isabel Cardi)

Bronze medal: Rachel Kent – Shot Put, the 4 x 100 meter 115 lb. relay (Tiara Williams, Dayonna Hayes,

Joclyn Bushman, Olivia Spring), the 4 x 100 meter open relay (Valerie Cheney, Lizzie King, Helen Qi, Mor-

gan Folk).

Rachel Kent lowered her school record in the hurdles to 9.72 seconds. Grace Haase, Valerie Henderson,

Magdalia Campobasso, and Olivia Parrente lowered their school record in the 4 x 100 meter 95 lb. relay to 54.79

seconds. Two other school records were set during the season. India Legree set a school record in the 70 meter 105 lb.
