Shibori & Indigo Dyeing Classes in Graham, TexasThese classes will be held at my home studio with limited enrollment due to space. We will be working indoors and outdoors. If the weather cooperates we will mainly be outside where we can dye and hang things on the clothes line. If the weather is cranky we will work in the studio and driveway. There will be three days of classes. The classes will start at 9:30 and end around 5:00 with about a 45 minute break for lunch which will be provided each day. Lunch will be simple sandwiches, soups, or salads, fruits and small desserts. I will provide coffee, tea and bottled water. I can accommodate vegetarian and gluten free diets, just let me know ahead of time.

Schedule for the three days:

Day One:Brief explanation of Shibori and indigo dye.Explanation of different kinds of indigo vats; natural, synthetic and pre-reduced.Making of a pre-reduced indigo vat.Explanation of Itajimi Shibori and demonstrations of folding and clamping the fabric.We will then fold and clamp fabric to dye. I will also demo some marble wrapping and other fun techniques. The rest of the day will be spent working with the fabrics and dyeing.

Day Two: Short review of the previous day. Brief explanation of Arashi Shibori and demos on more than one way to fold and wrap the fabrics on a pole for unique designs.Short explanation and demo on simple stitching techniques.Spend the day doing any of the techniques learned so far.

Cost:Three days $350The cost of the class includes lunch and snacks, use of all my tools and equipment, use of three different indigo vats and as much knowledge as you can get from me. The class includes either:2 silk scarves or 2 yards of cotton prepared for dyeing fabric. I will work with you on mixing and matching these items if you want. I will have extra prepared for dyeing scarves, fabrics, napkins and tea towels for sale.

To register for the classes there will be $50 nonrefundable deposit. The class must be paid in full 30 days prior to the class with no refunds after that time. I have two classes planned in 2020. May 28-30 and October 14-16.Graham has a Holiday Inn Express and a Best Western Plus.

Day Three:On day three we will continue working with all of the techniques plus it gives students more time for more demos on more resist techniques especially if you want to do some more detailed techniques that are not commonly seen in one day classes.
