Shawn Lane has been recognized as the fastest guitar player ever, but from our pointof view he was primarily a composer of melodies that deeply reached the soul.

For him we made a unique Excalibur guitar that features a flat fingerboard withprobably the lowest string action in guitar making history.

He played this guitar from the day he got it, until the day he sadly died in 2003.

Available in 4, 5, or 6 string, the Arpege is the stateof Vigier art. Its 10/90 neck-through construction,

combined with a laminated body, give this bassincredible response and makes it lightweight. Like on

all Vigier basses, its pickups are ultra dynamic with awide frequency response range. Its active electronic

is essentially composed of a balance and 12 presetsounds made by two parametric equalizers.

General SpecificationsNECK

We manufacture two types of necks: bolt-on for the Excess,Excalibur and Expert series and a neck-through-body for theArpege,Passion and Marilyn series.

WoodTo manufacture the neck, we use the samemaple wood selected by great classicalinstrument makers for centuries. This wood iscut in Europe's forests and dried naturally foryears before it will be used (7 years actually).The humidity level is strictly controlled while itis stored.

Fingerboard and fretsEach fingerboard is rectified to the onehundredth of a millimeter to ensure it'sexceptionally straight. Frets will then be fitted,also rectified and polished meticulously.A Phenowood™ fingerboard is used on theneck-through-body models. Its physicalstrength and stability offer excellent wearresistance, high response, plus neat andaccurate fretting.Traditional maple or rosewood fingerboards areyour choice for the bolt-on neck models.

Delta Metal™ fretless fingerboardFor the accomplished musician who wants toenter the discipline of fretless playing, wedeveloped the Delta Metal fingerboard in 1979.Gold in color, it is immediately striking andfeatures a hard surface that will stay even for along period of time. It produces sustaincomparable to fretted instruments and is rich inharmonics. Exclusively available on 4 stringbass models and 6 string guitars.

Hardened zero fret technologyA zero fret has always been fitted on all of ourinstruments. This slightly higher fret balancesopen or fretted string notes, ensures perfectstring height and minimizes string friction tohelp avoid detuning when using the tremolo.We've been able to harden it so it lasts longerand mad e it removable so it's easier to replaceif needed.

FinishIn order to completely protect it as well asenhance its feel and play, a matte varnish issprayed on every bolt-on neck.

ComfortThe master element of the guitars sound andcomfort is the neck. It always receivesparticular attention every time we develop newconcepts to improve its performance. Becausethe neck is hand finished, each one can beverified by our luthiers. They will make surenothing was overlooked. And our reputation isproof that your hands will feel it!

10/90 Neck System™This exclusive advanced concept of 10%carbon and 90% wood replaces the traditionalmetal truss rod with a dense carbon strip toreinforce the neck. Employed for over 20 yearson all Vigier guitars and basses, this conceptmakes the neck strong and stable duringclimate change. To get a full sound, we neverbelieved it was logical to drill a hole through aneck and then insert a rod of metal inside.Necks with the 10/90 System are solid, notesring longer and your sound is precise andpowerful. Wood necks with truss rods are tooflexible; they absorb the energy of the stringand shorten sustain. Our 10/90 Neck Systemalso contributes to tuning stability becausewith wood necks, the metal truss rod rubs andcauses detuning problems.

BODYComfortWhen we design the shape we keep in mindthe harmony between the player and theguitar. The perfect balance of the instrumentis achieved by aligning the neck with theaxis of the human body. Our guitars weighapproximately 3Kg and are undoubtedly oneof the lightest in their category. So, for thosewho play spectacular, action filled concerts,or just endlessly somewhere, we are positivethat you'll appreciate the manageability andlightweight.

WoodDepending on the models, we can use alder, maple, or ash. Selected in Europe's forests, thesewoods are real and solid. They are dried naturally for years in our factory before we cut them. Thebody is made up of only 2 center-joined pieces not 4, or sometimes even 7 pieces like industrialmakers.

FinishThe summit of quality is shown in ourfinishes. Our master finisher sprays over 10thin coats of varnish between numeroussanding procedures. A minimum amount ofvarnish is sprayed to avoid oversealing thewood so it can vibrate, yet be protected likeon an acoustic instrument. After, we will waitat least one month before we proceed withfinal sanding and polishing -this is state ofthe art. Please refer to the end of the catalogfor each models standard color.

TREMOLOLong before others,we built our own locking tremolo so we know what guitar virtuosos and heavy tremolo users need tostay in tune. Usually,the bridge's pivot system is fitted with knives but we decided to replace them with ball bearings and

this is exclusively used on Vigier. Once the knives are worn, there is no way the tremolo can come back to its originalposition because there is friction. When this happens you will have detuning problems. Our ball bearings can turn 10,000

times per minute and so are impossible to wear.

VIGIER® Floyd Rose® licensedtremoloThis tremolo is available on the ExcaliburOriginal and Custom models. It makes theguitar virtually undetunable. The only slightdetuning problem may occur from the string'smetal stretching!Also the tuning stability comes from theindispensable one piece locking nut and ourzero fret that guarantees exact first fret actionheight and accurate tuning.For your playing comfort, the saddles are handadjusted to precisely match the radius of thefingerboard.For your convenience, the angle of the tremoloarm can be set while you're playing andremoved easily when you are not. Finally, theAllen keys have been neatly fitted at the rear ofthe headstock.

VIGIER® 2010 and 2017 tremolosThese non-locking tremolos are set on the Excalibur Supra, Special, Indus, Ultra and the Expertfor guitarists that are looking for a rich and crunchy sound. The perfect tuning stability is alsoensured through the locking machine heads that are precisely aligned with the strings by ourtraditional zero fret. Another important detail, is the short distance between the bridge saddle andthe place where the string is anchored. Also, each saddle can be locked into position onceintonation is set and a small roller is located at the string break point to minimize friction. Theyhave as much tuning stability as most guitars equipped with a Floyd Rose.

BRIDGESGuitarsSimilar to the Excalibur Surfreter, a flat mountfixed bridge is available on the ExcaliburSupra, Excalibur Special and the Expertguitars. It is fully adjustable and featuresthrough-body stringing.On the Marilyn model a solid bridge with atailpiece combination has been fitted.

BassesThis solid, quick-release bridge was speciallydesigned to fit the Vigier bass series. Tochange strings, you simply lift them away. Thesaddles are set in individual tracks and haveindependent height and intonation adjustment.To help remove extraneous noise or set-upproblems, the saddles are locked into positiononce adjustments are complete.

MACHINE HEADSWe use locking machine heads in combination with our 2010 & 2017 non-locking tremolos.

ELECTRONICSDepending on the model,we can fit passive or active electronics. Our commitment to offer the most up to date electronics

dates back to 1983 when we earned our credibility by being the first manufacturer to incorporate a microcomputer in ourmemory guitar.

DetailsWe sprayed conductive paint inside theelectronic cavity and depending on the model,the backplate or the pickguard to reduce humwhen playing at high volumes.All basses have active electronics with lowbattery consumption. Batteries last about 500hours.More details on the electronics and pickups aregiven on the technical specification chart.

Pickup selection for the Excalibur®and Expert® series:When the 5-way pickup switch is in the middleposition it connects the neck and bridge pickuptogether.

PickupsBefore any pickup is mounted on a Vigier it'sentirely controlled. Each pole is adjusted sothat the strings have a balanced output level.Another small, but important detail is that moststandard humbuckers have two adjustmentscrews however, we took the time to add athird screw so that height or tilt adjustmentscan be made easily and an equal distancebetween the strings and the coils can beachieved.
