How quickly time flies when you are having fun! It’s already that time of the year where the Extravaganza sign ups have begun! This year has been filled with exciting professional projects for us at Sharmila Dance and this will continue into the New Year. Some of our students have had the opportunity to be part of a commercial shoot for Cheetos, as well as performing “Gangnam Style” with 100 other fellow performers at “The Dubai Mall” for 5 days (15 performances). This was followed by a flash dance this past weekend once again at "The Dubai Mall"! Not to mention the other professional jobs that the company members have been involved in. It doesn’t stop here! We began heavily rehearsing for "The Sharmila Dance Gala" to be held on the 14th & 15th December 2012. I'm so excited to have the beautiful principal dancer Alicia Amatriain performing in Dubai for the first time along side her partner, soloist David Moore from the Stuttgart Ballet. They will perform, “Romeo & Juliet" and a contemporary pas de deux piece. I also invited two dancers from the Top 20 of the famous American series “So You Think You Can Dance”. We of course, will invite other talents from Dubai that are at the top of their game such as BNF who are well established and spectacular in their genre "Latin". I personally look forward to performing in front of my students and Dubai's dance enthusiasts and I speak on behalf of my company who feel the same way. We hope that you will take the opportunity to watch these dancers perform. On another note, classes have been super busy and I’m happy to say that the general level of the students is much higher than the years before. So well done to all of you! Sharmila Kamte 1

The Sharmila Dance Gala is set to bring you one of the most exciting and unique shows that Dubai has to offer. With the best locally based talent, as well as international talent like the Stuttgart Ballet and dancers from the world-renowned show, So You Think You Can Dance US. It is a blend of different dance genres brought together on one stage.

The show will feature world famous principal dancer Alicia Amatriain and partner David Moore from the prestigious “Stuttgart Company” specially flown in for the event to perform the classic ‘Romeo & Juliet’ and a unique contemporary performance. In addition, we are bringing down 2 dancers from the hit US TV Show “So You Think You Can Dance” who will be performing two contemporary/jazz pieces.

We will also have the El Firulete BNF Dance Company who are the World Champions in Salsa, performing the Tango and Salsa choreographies with their locally based performers.

Alongside the guest performers, Sharmila Dance will also be performing some of their popular choreographies with their professional company dancers. They are a company that performs Hip Hop, Jazz and Contemporary, having worked on some of the largest events in the U.A.E.

Sharmila's Dance Extravaganza is drawing near. This annual event gives each student the opportunity to work hard, have fun and perform on stage, showing their progress to all friends and family. For students that are new we have DVD's on sale from last year at 50.00 AED for you to get an idea of the show.

The shows will be held at the Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre situated at Mall of the Emirates in the Centre Point Theatre, on Thursday 25th, Friday 26th and Saturday 27th April. The exact times of the performances are to be confirmed.

ALL participants have to be available on Tuesday 23rd & Wednesday 24th April for a technical rehearsal!

Rehearsals for the show will begin on Friday 11th January and will continue to be EVERY Friday until the show date. Maximum absence allowed is 1 Friday, giving you a possibility of a 2 week vacation if planned ahead of time! We realize that this show is a huge commitment to the participants and their families, and we ask that you're 100% committed to all the requirements. As the show draws closer there may be a possibility of extra rehearsals for the dances that require it.

Rehearsal times:

Level 1's: 11.00am - 12:30pm (last few rehearsals could be full days)

Other Levels: 12:30pm - 5:30pm

Please note that these rehearsals are in addition to the regular classes that one MUST continue to attend!

You can pick up a copy of the letter with the costs included before class with Bushra.

Each student is guaranteed to be in TWO dances.

To Register for Sharmila's Dance Extravaganza we require the following:

• Participants need to be regular students attending "Sharmila Dance". • Under 16years - 2 x Passport Pictures and Full Payment. • +16years - Coloured Passport Copy, 2 x Passport Pictures and Full

Payment.

The last date to sign up is Saturday 1st December.

When did you start dancing? I honestly do not remember, I’ve always danced and pranced about with friends, on the streets, at home, anywhere I could make a fool of myself really. Until a group of us took a class with Sharmila and again made a fool of myself, from then on I decided to stick to it from the age of 14. How long have you been with Sharmila Dance? Took a few classes straight after the extravaganza in 2007, then attended the workshop and continuous Extravaganzas and Workshops, around 5 and half years. What do you enjoy most about dancing? Just the freedom & passion that can be emoted, the feeling of those two combined changes my mood every single day and makes me think how happy and lucky I am to have found dance.

Getting to know the team

Zeina has been chosen this month as she is one of the most talented, hardworking, dedicated, focused and intelligent dancers we have. Her name has come up numerous times before but we try to keep our dancers as level headed as possible as there is a way to go in their training! Zeina is a mature young lady willing to make the sacrifices and commitments needed to improve on a steady basis. I love her work ethic and hope that the injury she has been suffering with heals and allows her to continue her journey upwards. Sharmila Kamte
