Got Holiness?

Christians in reality are little fragments of God’s perfect light and holiness due to Christ’s work on the cross as well as the indwelling of the trinity.

Matthew 5:14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.

ECCLESIASTES 6:12

“For who knows what is good for a man during his lifetime, during the few years of his futile life? He will spend them like a shadow. For who can tell a man what will be after him under the sun?” (NASB)

E.W. Bullinger – Numbers In Scripture (1967)

120 In Numerology Refers to Time.

“Applied to time it signifies a divinely appointed period of probation (testing). Applied to persons it points to a divinely appointed number during a period of waiting.” Genesis 6:3

Page 11: SHADOWS & DUST

Biblical Numerology:

Genesis 6:3 (NASB) Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not

strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”

In this verse we see a period of probation (testing) for Noah and the Nephilim, as well as a divine period of waiting where Noah had 120 years to build the ark before the flood came.

Page 12: SHADOWS & DUST

Biblical Numerology:

Furthermore, interesting how the word tsel, or Shadow in the Hebrew, numerical values sum up to 120. A number that we have just seen can be used for probation, (testing) or a divine period of waiting.

Hold on a minute, what did Solomon say earlier… Why he said man will spend his life like a shadow. Or in other words we could potentially say, in a human body on a probational basis for testing for a divine period of time that God has not disclosed to us!

ECCLESIASTES 6:12

“For who knows what is good for a man during his lifetime, during the few years of his futile life? He will spend them like a shadow. For who can tell a man what will be after him under the sun?” (NASB)

Adam Clarke Commentary On ECCLESIASTES 6:12:

For who knoweth what is good for man in this life? Those things which we deem good are often evil. And those which we think evil are often good. So ignorant are we, that we run the greatest hazard in making a choice. It is better to leave ourselves and our concerns in the hands of the Lord, than to keep them in our own.

For who can tell a man what shall be after him? Futurity is with God. While he lives, man wishes to know what is before him. When he is about to die, he wishes to know what will be after him. All this is vanity; God, because he is merciful, will reveal neither.

JOB 8:9 (NASB)

“For we are only of yesterday and know nothing, Because our days on earth are as a shadow.

PSALM 144:4 (NASB)

Man is like a mere breath; His days are like a passing shadow.

PSALM 102:11 (NASB)

My days are like a lengthened shadow, And I wither away like grass.

Ecclesiastes 8:13

But it will not be well for the evil man and he will not lengthen his days like a shadow, because he does not fear God.

rp!^u* Aphar (aw-fawr) Noun, Masculine

Dry earth, dust, powder, ashes, earth, ground, mortar, rubbish

Page 20: SHADOWS & DUST

Adam Clarke Commentary On Genesis 2:7:

God formed man of the dust - In

the most distinct manner God shows us that man is a compound being, having a body and soul distinctly, and separately created; the body out of the dust of the earth, the soul immediately breathed from God himself. Does not this strongly mark that the soul and body are not the same thing?

Page 21: SHADOWS & DUST

Adam Clarke Commentary On Genesis 2:7:

The body derives its origin from the

earth, or as aphar implies, the dust; hence because it is earthly, it is decomposable and perishable. Of the soul it is said, God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; nishmath chaiyim, the breath of Lives, i.e., animal and intellectual. While this breath of God expanded the lungs and set them in play, his inspiration gave both spirit and understanding.

Philip answered Him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, for everyone to receive a little.”
