1. VISA:

On arrival, to all the nationals. Countries with outbreak of Ebola can’t have visa on arrival.

2. PASSPORT:

Normally all countries requires 6 months validity. It must be valid for period of intended stay until arrival

back in holder’s country of origin / residence.

Given below is “Seychelles Immigration” link for latest info on passport visa requirements.

http://www.ics.gov.sc/immigration-seychelles/visiting-seychelles/passport-visa-requirements

NB: Traveller should always check for latest info on travel requirements.

3. TRAVEL DOCUMENT:

Return ticket is a must. My return date was 5th Dec 2015, immigration officer checked return ticket in

my case & accordingly stamped visa till 5th Dec 2015 on my passport.

NB: If you think you may decide to extend your stay then you must request immigration officer to

stamp visa for more days from the return ticket date.

Travel insurance policy is upto you, to take it or not. It is not at all a prerequisite for immigration.

4. HOTEL VOUCHER:

This also is a must. Before travelling to Seychelles, need to have confirmed hotel booking.

Corresponding hotel provides hotel voucher on its letter head / plain paper. The one I received is

attached on the next page for your ready reference.

Immigration officer checked this too in my case. Immigration staff may check with the hotel for

confirming your reservation. In my case, check was carried out by the immigration staff within couple of

minutes by talking over phone to my hotel owner.

NB: If you are without confirmed hotel booking / voucher then you will be constrained by immigration

officer to book a hotel near the airport for your entire Seychelles stay.

5. SUFFICIENT FUNDS:

Immigration officer may ask to provide the proof of funds to take care of your stay / sightseeing in

Seychelles. I was with following proofs:

a) 1K Euro in cash b) International debit card (2 nos.) c) Bank statement (2 banks)

In my case, immigration officer didn’t ask anything on it before stamping visa on my passport.

NB: 150 Euro per day will be the basis for immigration officer to arrive at a total sufficient funds figure

for one’s entire stay.

SEYCHELLES AIRPORT LOUNGE:

It is the smallest international airport I saw. 2 ATMs / Foreign exchange office, restaurant & taxi hire stalls.

You can collect free Airtel sim card with SCR 25 talk time from airport staff before immigration counter. I

collected it, did not use because when I went to Airtel office there was a long queue moreover the staffs

were not customer friendly. So I went to Cable & Wireless office. I got it’s new sim activated immediately

after payment. Cable & Wireless is better than Airtel in service & connectivity.

TRAVEL PREREQUISITES:

Page 2: Seychelles-Travel Guide
Page 3: Seychelles-Travel Guide

NB: SELF CATERING: It is a trend in Seychelles. Almost all hotels have self catering facility. Self catering means

gas stove with gas cylinder, cooking oven, electric kettle, fridge, all adequate basic cooking & dining utensils are

provided with kitchen. One has to bring food items from shop, market & cook.

ROOM RENT PER NIGHT: Starting from Euro 35.

1. PREFER CITY LIFE: Then look for hotel in Main Victoria city

NB: Normal city life over by 6 / 7 pm. Take away & restaurants till 9.30 pm, casinos, night club full night.

2. PREFER BEACH LIFE: Then plenty of options starting from Sunset beach Glacis, Beau Vallon, Anse

Intendance, Port Launay, Port Glaud, Baie Lazare, Anse Takamaka, Anse La Moucha, Anse Soleil, Anse Royale

etc on Mahe island. Also on beaches of Praslin & La Digue island.

3. PREFER LUXURY: Then plenty of star hotels, resorts with spa options available

4. PREFER ON HILL TOP WITH VIEW OF OCEAN & MOUNTAINS, LITTLE AWAY FROM CITY & BEACH LIFE: The

hotel I stayed was of this category. I contacted 15 hotel owners. Few were ok, few were harsh and few were

rude when asked for discount. Mrs. Cecile Berlouis, my hotel owner was the best amongst them. She was

generous, prompt & supportive to my email / sms queries, I am sharing few best things:

a) She provided me a big 2 storey family apartment at Alpina Lodge for Euro 35, price of which is Euro 65.

Ground floor-furnished kitchen, dining room, bathroom toilet, open bedroom for kids. Top floor-furnished

master bedroom, bathroom toilet, balcony, open bedroom for kids.

b) Many hotel owners ask for card details / advance payment during hotel reservation. Instead of it, Mrs.

Cecile expects full payment on arrival. She accepted my request of payment in two instalments.

c) Normally car hire is Euro 150 per day for sightseeing; she gave me her driver for it at Euro 100.

d) For Alpina Lodge guests, transfer from airport to Alpina lodge is free & for vice a versa trip Euro 30.

e) If you wish to have food at her Beach House restaurant, then free to & fro transfer is arranged by her. You

need to inform her well in advance for it.

f) On request, she gave me contact details of glass bottom boat & mountain trail tour service providers.

NB: She has 4 hotels namely: Alpina Lodge, Beach House, Choice Villa & Ocean View. Go thru this link

http://www.choiceseychelles.com/home-1.html to see 4 hotels for it’s actual photos & all helpful info with

rates. What you see, read of respective hotels in the website, you will find exactly same in actual. For family, I

recommend Beach House & Choice Villa, most nearest to alluring Beau Vallon Beach.

I do recommend Alpina Lodge for those who wish to save money. Refer detailed helpful info on Alpina Lodge

in my review of trip advisor. Click the link below, scroll down & please do read:

https://www.tripadvisor.in/ShowUserReviews-g297798-d8868353-r332632925-Alpina_Lodge-

Mahe_Island.html#CHECK_RATES_CONT Photos of Alpina Lodge I took during my stay.

NB: In bathroom toilet of Alpina Lodge there is no toilet faucet or mug. So you have to use bath shower in bath tub. I am unaware of it in Beach

House, Choice Villa & Ocean View Hotel.

IF YOU REFER MY NAME TO MRS. CECILE, DEFINATELY SHE WILL CONSIDER GIVING YOU POSSIBLE DISCOUNT DEPENDING ON THE LENGTH OF

YOUR STAY & PEAK OR LOW TIME OF THE SEASON.

WHERE TO STAY

Page 4: Seychelles-Travel Guide

1. RENT A CAR: Travel on your own terms & at your pace, do what you want, it is your tour.

If you:

i) Have a driving licence of four wheeler

ii) Are a fluent expert driver &

iii) Are confident in following road maps (roads are simple)

then take a car on rent. Show your driving licence, make required rental payment & enjoy your car ride.

Small car at a rent of Euro 35 per day for more than 9 days requirement & Euro 45 per day for less than

9 days. Rent in Euro per day will increase for big, auto transmission & luxurious cars.

NB: Don’t fill the tank full. To go around the island of 27 x 8 km, it is unworthy. Instead fill as required.

Roads are too narrow with ditches on both sides.

Seychelles (Mahe) is a small island of 27 km by 8 km & not a wonderland to get lost. Even if you are lost

in this wonderland blessed with scenic beaches, you will comfortably find your place with locals help.

2. HIRING A CAR / TAXI FOR FULL DAY: Relax & explore destinations while driver takes efforts of driving.

Standard charges are Euro 150 per day from 9 am to 4 or 5 pm. I negotiated for Euro 100 per day from 9

am to 5 pm with a taxi driver named Alex from Beau Vallon for few days when my hotel owner driver’s

car was under breakdown.

He was punctual: Always he will arrive 5 to 10 minutes early at my hotel. He will inform me over phone

that he is waiting outside my hotel & I should take my own time to get ready.

He was supportive: Always he was positive to my photo requests.

He was generous: On penultimate day of my Seychelles tour, from 7.30 pm to 11 pm, he took me to

various casinos in Victoria city. He had membership cards of casinos. He charged his card with 100 SCR &

said to me that I should play on his behalf as he is unlucky. I said since I don’t know the games so I can’t

play. When he dropped me at my hotel around 11 pm, I asked him how much I have to pay him, he said

nothing. I was shell-shocked. I said no way; you have to tell me how much I have to pay. Still he was

saying nothing. Then I said fine if you are not telling me how much then you have to keep this SCR 500

for today evening’s sightseeing tour otherwise I am not getting down from the car. He accepted it. I was

happy for him.

I hired 3 drivers for Mahe tour during my stay. Gaitan, Leroy & Alex. All were good. Alex was the best. If

you wish to hire Alex during your tour his mobile no. is +248 2585507. You refer my name to him & he

will give you offer of 100 USD per day instead of 100 Euro.

NB: The biggest advantage is you are able to stop anywhere you wish for photography.

3. BUS (SEYCHELLES PUBLIC TRANSPORT CORPORATION - SPTC): Opportunity to make new local friends.

To know more on bus services or schedule, link of SPTC is http://www.sptc.sc

The best part: bus ticket is only SCR 5 for any destination. AC bus ticket is SCR 10.

Intendance, Police Bay & Anse Takamaka are little away at walk able distance from the main road

otherwise all the beaches are located on the main road & can be reached by bus.

Things needs to bear in mind:

i) Time to wait for next bus on sightseeing route

ii) To know the availability of last bus from sightseeing place to your place. After 6 pm bus service stops

for most routes. From Victoria last bus to Beau Vallon is at 8.30 pm, for Le Niole at 6.40 pm. I was

staying at Le Niole which is between Victoria & Beau Vallon / Bel Ombre.

NB: Biggest plus; most economical coupled with loss of your valuable time for bus wait.

Biggest minus; you are unable to stop wherever you wish for photography.

4. TOURIST BUS:

Some hotels conduct sightseeing tours for their customers in their bus. If you are in one such hotel then

you have this option.

HOW TO DO SIGHTSEEING:

Page 5: Seychelles-Travel Guide

NB: If taken car on rent, then free to go at your pace & time anywhere on island of 27 x 8 km to eat.

1. TAKE AWAY: Normal food at affordable rates.

If you are a budget traveller, then this is the best option. You will get rice, lentil curry, chicken

curry, fish curry, mutton curry, salads, beef, pork, sausages, fried chicken, chapati etc.

Oriental Cuisine takeaway is the best restaurant in this category opposite to main Victoria city bus

stand. Half chicken curry with rice is at SCR 40 & full at SCR 50. It has other fast food items too.

Papayagal is another take away near the Clock Tower junction in main Victoria city. Here the food

items are sold on weight basis. I had rice, lentil curry, chicken curry & salad at different times with

price ranging from SCR 36 to 50. Takeaways are available at many places on the Mahe island.

2. RESTAURANTS: Normal food at higher prices. More varieties.

You will get creole, Chinese, Italian, & continental food at medium to high rates depending on type

of restaurant. Rice & biryani is a common food.

3. BEACH HOUSE RESTAURANT: Hotels own menu at higher price. Your menu at extra cost.

If you are staying in any of the hotels (Alpina Lodge, Beach House, Choice Villa, Ocean View) owned

by Mrs. Cecile Berlouis. Then you have the option to have dinner at Beach House restaurant. The to

& fro travel arrangements will be made free by Mrs. Cecile. Only thing you need to do is inform her

well in advance for it. The food price is SCR 290 per person. Food will be starter, rice, lentil curry,

creole food, non veg item & dessert. Drinks will be at extra cost.

4. SELF CATERING: Economical when compared to above 3 options.

Those who are expert in cooking, this is the best option for them. Buy the desired food item from

nearby shop or super market & cook your desired menu.

From nearby shop / super market I use to buy frozen paratha (4 nos.) for SCR 25 or SCR 35

depending on make & chapati (4 nos.) for SCR 18. Frozen paratha / chapati are to be kept in

freezer. Just before cooking it is to be removed from freezer. It takes only 2 to 3 minutes to

prepare paratha or chapati on hot pan. I use to have it in breakfast with omlet / egg burji & pickle.

If you are at Alpina Lodge, then:

a) 2 shops at less than 5 minutes walk on Victoria road

b) 3 more shops & 1 takeaway at less than 10 minutes walk on Beau Vallon road in Pascal village

c) 1 more shop at less than 5 minutes walk on Le Niole road

NB: You can travel from Alpina Lodge by bus to Victoria or Beau Vallon to buy eatables or food

items. Bus stop for Victoria is at one minute walk from Alpina Lodge. It is 10 minutes bus journey.

Bus frequency is one hour from Le Niole to Victoria, with first bus at 6 am from Le Niole to Victoria

& last bus at 6.40 pm from Victoria to Le Niole.

Bus stop for Beau Vallon is at 7 minutes walk from Alpina Lodge. It is also 10 minutes bus journey.

Last bus is at 8.30 pm from Victoria to Beau Vallon. You should get down at Le Niole Tee off

junction at Pascal village & less than 5 minutes walk from there to Alpina Lodge.

NB: If dogs are on the street it may scare you at night in dark. I was afraid of dogs.

5.ARULMIGU NAVASAKTI VINAYAGAR TEMPLE BY SEYCHELLES HINDU KOVIL SANGAM IN VICTORIA:

If you are Hindu, then visit this, the only temple in Seychelles. Lord Ganesh is main God of this

temple & Murugan, Nadarajah, Durga, Sreenivasa Perumal, Bhairawa and Chandekeswarar are also

enshrined inside the temple. Moong dal sweet & rice khichadi (dry form) is served FREE to

devotees. Inside, on right side of the temple the cooked items are kept in 2 separate big cooking

bowls with spoon in it. Tiffin boxes & carry bags are also kept. It is a self service system. Help

yourself & carry it with you for dinner at your leisure in your hotel room. Most economical option.

WHERE & WHAT TO EAT:

Page 6: Seychelles-Travel Guide

NB: During my stay in Nov – Dec 2015, the gratifying turquoise appearance of water was between 10

am to 2 pm. So ensure you are visiting the beaches on Mahe, Praslin or La Digue island in Seychelles

when the water is turquoise otherwise you will miss the real feel of scenic beaches. See photos below

taken of Beau Vallon beach at 10 am & after 2 pm to know what you will see & what you will miss.

Magnificent sunset beach & alluring Beau Vallon beach in North. Majestic Anse Royale in East.

Spectacular Police bay in South. Mesmerising Anse Intendance in Southwest & West Coast has more

marvellous long stretch of beaches.

At 10 am

After 2 pm

1. BEACHES: My 1st sightseeing tour on Mahe island in Seychelles. Theme, to see all the beaches.

Click the link below & scroll down to see the photos with excellent brief article for respective

beaches; 35 on Mahe, 16 on Praslin & 18 on La Digue island. Click on main photo, it will take to new

page with more photos of it as well as more helpful info on restaurants, hotels, activities etc.

http://en.seyvillas.com/html/mahe-beaches

I studied many websites, www.enseyvillas .com is the best in terms of excellent description & info.

I went to see these 35 beaches on my 1st day in hired car starting from Bel Ombre in north, north

east, east, south east, south, south west & finishing at Cap Ternay in west.

I felt like revisiting those beaches so on 4th day I again visited the same beaches but in opposite

direction i.e. starting from Cap Ternay in west, south west, south, southeast, east, north east, &

finishing at Bel Ombre in north. On penultimate day, I again visited those beaches. So 3 times I saw.

See the scenic photos I have taken. Actual scenic view is more beautiful than photos.

Mahe, Praslin & La Digue. You have the privilege to swim, enjoy playing in the water, on beach to add

fun in your trip.

2. NATURE TRAILS:

My 2nd sightseeing tour on Mahe Island in Seychelles. Theme, to see scenic views from:

a) Earmarked spots on or near road or with trek b) Road

We started from Victoria to Port Glaud:

1ST ON ROUTE; SANS SOUCI: Scenic view of Seychelles dam, Victoria city & Eden Island. See the

photos below:

Page 12: Seychelles-Travel Guide

2ND ON ROUTE; COPOLIA TRAIL: Earmarked view point with trek. There is a arrow sign board of Copolia

trail on main road. From main road till the main view point, it is moderate to medium trek of more than 45

minutes. Police will be there at the sign board during day time for the safety of tourists who go for trek. I

was short of time so did not go for a trek till the main view point. Anyhow, view from Copolia trail sign

board on main road is also a scenic one. There is one wooden bench for sitting or resting purpose. See the

photos below taken from this spot.

3RD ON ROUTE; MISSION LODGE: Earmarked view point with historical significance. There is small parking

area near the main road. From main road or parking area it is couple of minutes walk to the Mission Lodge

View Point – Big Tent with wooden benches. It offers a spectacular view of sea & mountains. See the

photos below:

4TH ON ROUTE; MORNE BLANC: Earmarked view point with trek. This view is the most spectacular of my

sightseeing tour on Mahe Island. It is right on the top in my list of Mahe island tour. A MUST TO SEE place.

It is 45 minutes medium difficulty trek. Fat people, weak legs, take care. The view what you will see after

reaching the point will be amazingly spectacular & picturesque one. To come down it will take 30 minutes.

See the photos below:

Page 13: Seychelles-Travel Guide

5TH ON ROUTE; LA MISERE: Earmarked view point. Very spectacular views. This is also in the top list of my

Mahe island tour alongwith Morne Blanc. Instead of writing anything on this place, please see the

amazing beautiful photos of Eden Island, St. Anne Island & Cerf Island together with Victoria port.

6th ON ROUTE; SCENIC VIEWS FROM THE ROAD: I came across many spectacular views, see few photos

below:

Page 14: Seychelles-Travel Guide

NB: All the above NATURE TRAIL places are at 15 to 30 minutes drive from Victoria city.

3. ENJOYFUL ONE DAY GLASS BOTTOM BOAT TOUR TO MOYENNE ISLAND: My 3rd sightseeing tour in

Seychelles. Theme, to see amazing coral marine world & experience of snorkelling to remember. Price

varies from 90 to 125 Euro per adult. Half day tours are also available. I have provided all the detailed tour

info in the review of trip advisor website. Please click on the link below, scroll down & please do read:

a) Photos of glass bottom boat journey:

After 45 minutes from start of journey, you will be stopped at fish feeding point in the sea. Make tiny

pieces of bread given to you & feed to plenty of fishes. Then enjoy snorkelling for 30 to 45 minutes.

Page 15: Seychelles-Travel Guide

b) Photos of Snorkelling: You will mostly see zebra striped fishes & few other varieties plus coral world. I

did snorkelling in Red Sea in Egypt, there I found most amazing variety of colourful fishes. Red sea

snorkelling experience remains memorable in my life.

c) Photos on Moyenne Island & views during hiking around the Moyenne island:

d) Photos on the Moyenne island beach & in sea water:

You will be at your leisure from 12 to 3 pm at Moyenne island. Free barbeque lunch of chicken, fish, rice,

boiled corn, salad, banana at 1.30 pm. Water bottle & drinks also served free. You will treasure this one

day glass bottom boat tour of fish feeding, snorkelling & seeing of marine coral world very much.

Page 16: Seychelles-Travel Guide

e) Most beautiful spot; Photos from the small portion of land in centre covered by water from all side:

From Moyenne island beach you have to walk in the water with a depth of 2 to 3 feet.

4. LA DIGUE ISLAND TOUR: My 4th sightseeing tour in Seychelles. Theme, to see the world class (post

card / calendar photo) category of beaches. Island of 5 x 2 km. This island has the most incredibly

stunning beaches in Seychelles. I have provided all the detailed helpful travel info in the review of trip

advisor website. Please click on the link https://www.tripadvisor.in/ShowUserReviews-g477968-

BOTANICAL GARDENS:

1. VALLEE DE MAI BOTANICAL GARDEN (PRASLIN ISLAND): A UNISCO heritage sight with historical

significance of giant size Coco De Mer seed that resembles female genitals. Entrance fee SCR 305 with

free garden map & free guide service. I followed map to see from view point, found no scenery so gave

up. Peradeniya Botanical Garden in Kandy, Srilanka or Pamplamouse Botanical Garden in Mauritius has

eye pleasing picturesque green nature. Valle De Mai is full of dense trees with no picturesque green

nature. It will take more than 2 hours walk to see complete garden.

2. MOUNT FLEURI BOTANICAL GARDEN (MAHE ISLAND): Entrance fee SCR 100 with free garden map. A

day before my visit, I went to enquire. Garden was empty. The day I visited, I was alone in the garden.

Less picturesque garden than in Srilanka & Mauritius. It is 10 to 15 minutes walk from main Victoria bus

stop. Catch Mount Fleuri bus & tell bus driver to let you get down at the stop near botanical garden.

Stop is 50 meter ahead of garden. 5 minutes bus journey. It will take less than 1 hour to see small

garden that appears big on garden map. There are wash rooms, no restaurant.

TIP: If you are 2 or family with 1 kid or 2 kids then accordingly take quote from travel agent for 5 days. Then compare your estimated

budget & travel agent quote for 5 days to know what the best is. I feel travel agent quote may work out most economical.

When I travelled Mauritius in Aug 2015, I thot it is most expensive foreign sightseeing tour. Then I planned Maldives in Nov 2015. I said to myself OMG,

this is costlier than Mauritius. As Maldives President declared one month emergency, I cancelled tickets of Maldives & planned for Seychelles. After

studying Seychelles, I said to myself OMG OMG, it is costliest than Maldives & Mauritius. It is worth. Seychelles is more beautiful than Mauritius. Thats

why I thot to share my Seychelles travel knowledge with you to introduce you this country blessed with most scenic, spectacular, splendid &

magnificent beaches. Actual scenic beauty is more than what you see in the photos. Earlier I shared travel guide on Srilanka. This time it is Seychelles. I

am always there for you for any more information on Seychelles tour. I guess you may ask for Mauritius travel guide also. Still I will say choose

Seychelles tour instead of Mauritius or Seychelles first then from Seychelles to Mauritius & then to India. Thanks for your time. Cheers & all the best...

LAST & MOST IMPORTANT THING BUDGET: My expenses below will enable you to budget the tour.
