INDIA TRADE NEWS

Concor offers 45-day free storage period for handling import/export Containers

Container Corporation of India Ltd (Concor) is seeking to disrupt the container logistics market by offering 45-day free storage period to exporters and importers at its facilities handling export-import containers. From September 1, India’s biggest rail hauler of containers started offering 45 days free storage period to import/direct port delivery (DPD) loaded containers, export/direct port entry (DPE) loaded containers and 90 days for empty containers across its 46 export-import terminals. Prior to the notification, Concor was offering free days ranging from 5 to 7 days depending on the type of export-import containers and the TSC after the free storage days was levied slab wise. In fact this move from Concor’s will have a substantial impact on private ICDs. One more thing that will happen subsequent to this decision is customers will start using Concor facilities as temporary warehouses, said one of the source. With shipping line detention typically lasting 14 days and importers still evacuating their DPD boxes via CFS, Concor will now offer customers its containers to de-stuff the material on paying de-stuffing charges after which they can keep the cargo at Concor’s facilities free of cost for as much as 45 days, the CFS official said. “45 days is a very long period. By that time, customers should clear the cargo, thus obviating the need to pay storage charges at all,” the Concor official said.

Beautiful Mountain Town - Shirakawa-go, Japan

The Historic Villages of Shirakawa-gō and Gokayama are one of Japan's UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The cultural property consists of three historic mountain villages over an area of 68 hectares (170 acres) in the remote Shogawa river valley,The valley is in a mountain region with considerable snowfall, and these villages are well known for their clusters of farmhouses, constructed in the architectural style known as gasshō-zukuri , which are designed to easily shed snow from their roofs.

The charming Japanese village of Shirakawa-go makes for a perfect destination to go when looking to enjoy quietude and fresh mountain air. Built at the base of Mount Hakusan, the village boasts a unique collection of Gassho-style homes with thatched roofs, most of which were built in the 19th century and have been well-preserved till this day. This World Heritage location is particularly more appealing in winter.

The three villages are situated in a remote valley, surrounded by high and rugged mountains which receive particularly high snowfall in winter. Remoteness and difficulty of access severely restricted the connection of this region with the outside world until around the 1950s. This isolation led to the development of its unique culture and traditions, including the architectural tradition of the Gassho-style farmhouses which has been handed down through the generations. For some while this region was known as 'the last unexplored area of Japan'.

We tend to make mistakes and not learn from them, so we continue making the same mistakes and satisfy ourselves by saying that it is human to err. Rightly said A mistake repeated more than once is a decision …… Let us be wise and learn from our mistakes
