“What if you Can’t?”

This past Lord’s day I referenced an “inspirational” po-em by Rudyard Kipling. Part of the poem says this:

If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too: If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or being hated don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise; If you can dream- -and not make dreams your master; If you can think- -and not make thoughts your aim, If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And- -which is more- -you'll be a Man, my son!

The problem is “what if you can’t?’ The library, internet, and bookstores are filled with “self help” books. They are designed to encourage us to be better, do better, and work harder to improve our lives. While there is certainly a benefit to hard work, there is one thing that work cannot do, and that is to save us. The Bible says we are to work OUT our salvation, but we cannot work FOR our salvation. That is what makes God grace so amazing. Rick

SWEETHEART BANQUET

Join us this Sunday night at 5 for an

evening of fine food and music. After we

share a meal prepared by our very own

Chef Dave D. we will enjoy a concert by

local Christian artist Jimmy Dooley. We

hope to see you there!

Chili Cook-off Report

Our first chili cook off was a resounding

success! There were 14 entries submit-

ted and after the judging the winners

were as follows:

1st Place: Jason Walker

2nd Place: Dave Diesel

3rd Place: Eric Simpson

We hope to hold another event in the

future.
