Hello Cursillistas!

If you have made a Crusillo and would be interested in helping in having a Cursillio here

at St. John Eudes, please contact Fr. Lawrence at: [email protected].

My name is Benoit Drapeau. People call me ‘father Ben’. I was born in New Brunswick, Canada. I’m the last of a family of 12. I was ordained a priest in the Congregation of Jesus and Mary( the Eudists) March 14, 1959. After my Ordination the Provincial sent me to Rome for a licentiate in theology and to Paris for a doctorate. In 1969 I was sent to Buffalo, NY, to teach at the Major Seminary. In 1978 the Provincial sent me to Louisiana, in the diocese of Lafayette, where I spent 16 years as pastor of two parishes. In 1996 I came back to Buffalo, NY, where I was assigned to be a pastor till 2001. In 2001 the Sisters of Mercy hired me as chaplain in their hospital, Mercy hospital. In 2005 the bishop of Phoenix, Bishop Olmsted, asked the Eudists to take a parish in his diocese. I was sent as the associate. I stayed there for 12 years. This past summer, while on vacation, I ended up in a hospital with serious health issues which led me into retiring this past November. While I have been recuperating, I have stayed at the Eudist retirement home in Charlesbourg, near Quebec, and with the Eudists in Carlsbad, CA. The Lord has granted me 58 years of active priestly ministry, which I have enjoyed tremendously. I always tell young men, “If you want a life that is not boring and joy-filled, become a Eudist priest.”…

As February approaches, our thoughts turn to Valentine’s Day and the 6th Annual St. John Eudes Wine Tasting Spectacular. While Cupid sponsors Valentine’s Day, the Men’s Council is sponsoring the Wine Tasting Spectacular on Saturday, February 24, 2018. From 6:30 to 9:30 pm you’ll be able to sample a wide variety of wine from California and around the world, have some appetizers and maybe win a door prize. Last year’s event was a great success and we expect this year’s event to be even better. More importantly, all proceeds are used to benefit local charities and our Church community. So mark the February 24 date on your calendar and then get ready for a fun evening. And don’t forget to bring your Valentine and friends. Watch for more infor-mation in the Church bulletin beginning February 4.

Evangelization: Religious Minorities in Asia That Christians, and other religious minorities in Asian countries, may be able to practice their faith in full freedom.

Help children communicate by reading between the lines . . . When children express that something is wrong at school or with other activities, it's often the job of care givers to read between the lines to determine what's really going on. They might say "I'm bored" and need your guidance finding a better school-life balance or engaging in more challenging academic work. Ask them to give examples and to help you understand what is going on. If the child is still being vague, remind them that they can tell you anything and that you'll listen with an open mind. As parents and caregivers, you have the opportunity to help kids deal well with negative feelings and challenges. And, if they are being mistreated in some way, keeping an open line of communication with kids will enable you to be their advocate.
