ADAMI] THE MEANING OF THE NAME

Adam means :-“of the ground,

Red earth”

Genesis 1:26-31 ; 2:7, 15-20; 3:!-5:5 ; Romans 3:12-13 ;1 Corinthians 15:22,45-49 ; 1 Thessalonians 5:23

III} FAMILY BACKGROUND

Adam was the first human Son of God (Luke 3:38), He was made By God out of the materials of the universe, and life was granted by God. He had no family background since he was the first man.

IV} What the old testament Says about adam

I} He was created by the trinity

(Gen 1:26) And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:

2] He was created in the“Image “ and the “likeness “of God

“image” means “representation” of God

“ likeness “ means the “ Character” or

“ model” of God

3] He was formed out of the dust.and God breathed into Adam and he became a living soul

(Gen 2:7) And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his Nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

4] Adam was created a “trinity”(both in Image and Likeness)Having a body, spirit and soul,Genesis 2:7

(1Th 5:23) And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

5] God made the earth for man and Man for the earth.

(Gen 2:8) And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.(Gen 2:15) And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

6] God had told Adam to be fruitful and multiplyAnd subdue the earth and All things on the earth.

(Gen 1:28) And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.(Gen 1:29) And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.(Gen 1:30) And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

(Gen 2:21) And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;(Gen 2:22) And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.(Gen 2:23) And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman,because she was taken out of Man.(Gen 2:24) Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.(Gen 2:25) And they were both naked, the man and his wife,and were not ashamed.

So God took from the side of Adam-Woman- and gave her to Adam

7) In Genesis 2:15-17, God placed a limit on man. Man was to be obedientTo God or he would die.

(Gen 2:15) And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

(Gen 2:16) And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

(Gen 2:17) But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

8) The temptation and fall is found in Genesis 3:1-7

(Gen 3:1) Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?(Gen 3:2) And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:(Gen 3:3) But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.(Gen 3:4) And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

(Gen 3:5) For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.(Gen 3:6) And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.(Gen 3:7) And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.(Gen 3:8) And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

9) God immediately sought them and it has been that way ever since

Genesis 3:8-13

10) Adam with his wife, received the promise of

the Saviour(Gen 3:15) And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

11) Because of the fall (sin)Adam is told of the curse upon the earth (Genesis 3:17) And the pronouncement of Death (Verse 19)

(Gen 3:17) And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;(Gen 3:19) In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

13) Adam had two sons , Cain and Abel Genesis 4 records their activities

14) Adam died at 930 years of age Genesis 5:5

V] What the new testamentTeaches us about Adam:

1} In luke 3:23-28 , the genealogy of Christ is traced back to Adam

2} Sin entered the world by one manAdam Romans 5:12

3} The First and Second ADAMS

In the first Adam all die-

In the second Adam (Christ) all are

made alive

VI] The lesson you should learn from Adam

The principle of the second before the first

The principle of the second before the

first(1Co 1:26) For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not

many noble, are called:(1Co 1:27) But God hath chosen the

foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak

things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

(1Co 15:45) And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last

Adam was made a quickening spirit.

God chooses the : nothings: for his Purpose for this reason it is a pervading

Characteristic Of the whole course of redemption, that God keeps on

choosing the younger before the elder , sets the smaller in priority to the greater, and chooses the second

before the first

For Example Not Cain but Abel and his Substitute Seth. Not Japheth but Shem, ( Genesis 10:21) Not Ishmael but Isaac, ( Genesis 17:19 ) Not Esau but Jacob, ( Genesis 25:23) Not Manasseh but Ephraim, ( Genesis 48:14 Not Aaron but Moses, (Exodus 7:7) Not Eliab but David, 1 Samuel 16:6-13) Not the first king Saul, but the second King

David, (1 Samuel 15:28) Not the old covenant but the New, (Hebrews

8:13) Not the first Adam but the second,

(1 Corinthians 15:45)

Thus God Continually (Heb 10:9) Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

(1Co 1:27) But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

(Mat 19:30) But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.(1Co 1:29) That no flesh should glory in his presence.

(1Co 1:30) But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

(1Co 1:31) That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
