´ "But I say to you, do not swear at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is His footstool" (Matthew 5:34,35)

JESUS COMPLETES THE LAW

´ ““Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.

´ For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.”

´ Matthew 5:17, 20 NKJV

Killing <---> Anger

•  "You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’

•  But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment.

•  And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire.”

´  Matthew 5:17, 20-22 NKJV

Five stages to sin of Anger 1.  You are upset in your

heart

2.  You think evil angry thoughts

3.  Your face changes ------------------------------- 4. You start yelling / cursing 5. You use your hand to hurt

Page 6: Sermon on the mount part 2

Anger the root cause !! ´ “Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there

remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

´  Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison. Assuredly, I say to you, you will by no means get out of there till you have paid the last penny.”

´ Matthew 5:23-26 NKJV

The Tongue

´ “But no man can tame the tongue.

´  It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God.

´ Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.”

´ James 3:8-10 NKJV

Adultery <---> Desire

´ ““You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Three steps to sin of Adultery 1.  Desire

2.  Conversation

3.  Fulfillment

Adultery <---> Desire

´  If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.”

´ Matthew 5:27-30 NKJV

Swearing

´ ““Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to the Lord.’

´ But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God’s throne; nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black.

´ But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.”

´  Matthew 5:33-37 NKJV

Page 13: Sermon on the mount part 2

When you swear : associated with anger and lying Talking like you own the world, but do you ? Too much talking – from the evil one ? – detail in your words. Father saying : silence your mouth, and your heart will talk to God, silence your heart, God will talk.

Returning Evil with Good

´ ““You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’

´  But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also.

´ And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.”

´ Matthew 5:38-42 NKJV

Six steps : by St. Augustine 1.  To instigate – to assault someone without anyone hurting you

2.  To pay back more than how you were hurt

3.  To pay back equal- OT

4.  To pay back less

5.  To repay with evil

6.  To repay with good

Our Lord Jesus Christ St. Stephen the Martyr Feel sad for the fate of the person causing you evil – ie : David and his son Absalom

LOVE your Enemies ´ ““You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your

neighbor and hate your enemy.’

´  But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven;

´ for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.”

´  Matthew 5:43-48 NKJV

The Narrow Gate

´ ““Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

´ Matthew 7:13-14 NKJV

Building on the Rock

´ ““Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

´ “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.””

´ Matthew 7:24-27 NKJV
