One day she made a big gingerbread man for her husband. She put it in the oven to bake. All of a sudden, the gingerbread man jumped out of the oven! He ran past the old woman in the kitchen. He ran past the old man sitting on the couch. He ran past the cat and dog too. He ran right out the door and down the road. The old woman, the old man, the cat and the dog all chased after him but they could not catch him. The gingerbread man shouted, “Run, run, as fast as you can. You can’t catch me, I’m the gingerbread man.” The gingerbread man ran on and on down the road. He ran past a rooster and a cow resting in a field. He ran away from a boy playing on the hill. Rooster, cow, and the boy all chased him. The gingerbread man shouted, “Run, run, as fast as you can. You can’t catch me, I’m the gingerbread man.” The gingerbread man came to a large river too deep for him to cross. He had to think of a way to cross it. As he stood thinking, a clever fox came by. The fox said, “I will take you across the river. Climb on my back.” The gingerbread man did. The fox went into the river with the gingerbread man on his back. As he went deeper into the water, the gingerbread man jumped higher on the fox’s back and then his head. Very quickly, the fox gobbled up the gingerbread man. What happened next?
