What you missed if you weren’t there… On August, 19th, Kelley DeLong of the American Red Cross spoke about the work of her organization but also reminded us that they are

always short of blood donors. Only 3% of people in Michigan give blood – they need our help!

Stickering away… On September 2nd, we met at the Dencap Warehouse for to sticker books. Pizza, salad, pop and fellowship and working for a good cause.

Well since you asked…let me tell you how Detroit No.1 doing. As of August 31, we had pledged $19,929. We have collected $18,563.25. Our goal is to contribute $42,750. Why is this important? Because it means that babies will not die of a disease that the vaccine has been available since the 1930s. Kiwanis is more than a celebration of longevity. Kiwanis is about saving and celebrating the lives of children.

This graphic prepared by member, Tony Monk, will be on display at every meeting as a visual reminder of where our club stands on this life saving crusade

To date Detroit No.1 has saved/protected 10,313 lives. When the bottle is full, we will have saved/protected 23,750 lives. THAT’S a legacy! The Detroit Kiwanis Foundation has agreed to Match (up to an aggregate $5000) funds raised between June 1 and November 30, 2014. So, if you have given donations or been given donations towards ELIMINATE, let Jeanette Harris know.

Checks written between June 1 and November 30 count.

Pledge payments made during this time period will count.

This is our first matching grant and we are finding our way. But, the lives of innocent children depend on us. Kiwanis will make history – again when Sue Petresin will step on the world stage as the first woman president of a major service agency. It would be a shame if her District did not reflect her passion and leadership on this issue What can you do?
