Site Crawlability

Search engines “crawl” web sites one page to another page very quickly.

They make copies of your pages that get stored in what’s called an “index”.

When someone searches, the search engine finds all the relevant pages and then picks out the very best ones to show first.

There are somethings that can cause problems. JavaScript or Flash can potentially hide links, making the

pages those links lead to hidden from search engines. Crawl problems can be easily avoided. In addition, it’s good

practice to use sitemaps, both HTML and XML, to make it easy for search engines to crawl your site.

Are Your URLs Descriptive?

Your domain name or page URLs can help your ranking prospects.

Searchers are more likely to select pages with short.  Transform the URL into a breadcrumb. Giving users more ways to navigate to a site directly from a

search result.

Internal Link Popularity

Navigation of your site can have a huge effect. First is your home page. Most popular of all pages.

Which means you can optimize it for the most general and competitive phrases.

At the second level are pages linked to from your global navigation menu.  These are usually top-level products or services pages.

The third level is often the specific product or service pages themselves.

The fourth level often consists of your value-added content such as blog posts, articles, videos, podcasts, etc. These are great for bringing in lots of search engine visitors using

long-tail keyword search queries.

4. Silo architecture

A website architecture based on a linking structure that segregates various themes into different ‘silos’ so that people and search engines can easily identify the main topics of a website.

Approximately 50% of the theme of a page is communicated by on-site linking.

It can help lower the costs of website rankings by up to 90%.
