In the 2018-2019 school year, Sennett Middle School will be a place where meaningful relationships are the foundation to a safe and respectful learning environment. This allows students to feel a strong sense of belonging as well as participate in culturally and linguistically rich teaching and learning. These conditions will help support our equity vision which seeks to educate students by engaging staff, families, and our community. Our staff will focus on strong core instructional practices and cultural humility to support student outcomes within the framework of the district’s Graduate Vision. Our goal is to empower all students in finding pathways to their academic and social identities and grow into future leaders. Equity Vision At Sennett Middle School, through authentic and meaningful relationships, students of all races, cultures, and identities, will feel they belong and can actively learn with trusted adults, other students, and the community to develop into thriving independent learners in a safe and respectful school environment. Strengths Sennett has strong systems to promote college, career, and community readiness. Our school has a deep commitment to community building in classrooms to empower positive relationships for students and staff. Our equity vision serves to create a safe and welcoming environment for all families, students, and staff. Progress Sennett Scholars showed progress in math and reading proficiency on the district assessment. As a school and community, we made improvements to family and community engagement which resulted in positive feedback on our climate survey. Our commitment to consistent schoolwide policies also led to increased engagement and participation in class for our Scholars. Area for Growth In 2018-2019, we are striving to make gains in three key areas: student sense of belonging, math proficiency, and reading proficiency. This will be accomplished by focusing on the development of teacher teams, small learning communities, and helping students to become independent learners. Vision Connection Our school supports MMSD's vision that all students acquire the skills and abilities needed to be successful, including a mastery of content areas, growth mindset, self-knowledge, creativity, wellness, interpersonal skills, confidence, cultural competence, and community connection. Through these skills and abilities, our students will graduate college, career, and community ready.
