AphorismA thirty second animation on a quote which could be understood from the image and not nescessary text. Aproaching two methods was ideal to choose the correct one and look at the design more criticly. Animation and film designs are very different and both take the same time over all, considering everything done to get the project going.

‘A single sparkcan start a

fire...’

Page 4: Semester Two Portfolio

The animation:Very simple design to start with.Chooseing for the whole quotation to be used in the design. It has becomed cleared this is not what I was expecting when the animation was finished. The film wasn’t showing enough encourgment in the design it self.It looked too simple and easy as well as it did not communicate the message to the viewer clearly enough at the end of the thirty second show.

The film:After failing animation tryout I have decided to move away from photography and try something new.It took 35 boxes of matches tocreate the word ‘Fire’.The inspiration was taken from an English music video from a songcalled ‘Pass out’.The preparation was time consuming but the final outcome was ]worth all of the hard work as it was showing the meaning of the quotation very well.

Artist researchContinuing from the text research of an artist of my choice I have decided to look in to macro photography. It has being decided to photograph my everyday things but looking at it from a different angle I believe it was succesfull as the photographs came out very well and have hidden meaning as every viewer can communicate their own lives with them. It is fascinating as it is simple with a lot of meaning

ManifestoWork of a group of people with similar interests within design. The things that have connected us are photography, typography, mark making and hand craft. We decided to manifest against not doing anything of our interest and en-courage people to ‘make and not

Page 10: Semester Two Portfolio

Manifesto part twoWe have then decided to createour own typefaces without of any limits. I have decided to stick to the found material option and create typeface out of my dads tool box equipment. First I was mixing everything together but then decided to limit my self to one object only.

Workshops

Page 14: Semester Two Portfolio

Collage Interesting workshop teaching how collage works. We got to know it from the very start the basic shapes and colours and then were left free with our designs. We were to make a book from a quotation given to us.

Page 15: Semester Two Portfolio

BadgesWe were to make a set of four bages from whatever we wanted. The only limitations we had was the size and the shape. I created five different sets of four which together created a collection. I based it on my handbag contents, these are my favorite.

MapsThe maps are not accurate, what made me think of a way of getting people who use un-derground to get to know the underground better and check wether we need a map to get somewhere where is on a way to a place we always go to.

There is a lot of things you could find within the underground map.

To overcome the stress and thoughts of not doing work. it has being decided to create a motivating cards to be given away on the last day of the pro-ject. The designs are simple but the words on them are strong and make the point clear. It is a buisnes card size to make it easier to store or keep with you at all times.

Continuation of the map theme from project set in the University. Making it more personal and individual by hand drawing my own everyday routes. Developing it as I go through the designs.I believe it is nicer as I am unable to draw the roads as they are in a real life.

It has been accepted that the lines are representing the roads.Old picture can also represent journey.

The objects or items you see on your way some-where can also represent a road you are following each day.

Evaluation

During semester two in my second year of studies I have changed.

The work produced now takes me further in my practice and I am allowing myself to ex-periment more without the worry of being wrong and messing the outcome up at the end of each experiment.

During the term I couldn’t find myself within the Universities building as I though it is limiting my work to what I have there while when being outside of the buildings inspira-tion was coming by very often. Even know I didn’t like to spend my time within the campus I learned that books and media store are very helpfull within my work and the studies as they are allowing me to try new things and not limit my self to things I already know.

The workshops were very interesting but I was unable to include things learned in to my work, but I do trully believe it will be usefull one day or another. The work produced in the workshops is also fascinating as it’s simple, doesn’t consume a lot of time but is communicating the message and meaning clearly.

My opinion about group crits havn’t changed, but it got a lot better when we were placed in to smaller groups, I thought it was a good move and felf listened to.

Over all this semester was good, I’ve learned how to work in groups and started enjoying what I did. The work in the portfolio could possibly be continued and rise in to different level of thinking.
