What do you do if you can’t trust anyone, least of all yourself?

Tabula Rasa is a psychological thriller about Mie, a young woman with amnesia who is locked up in a secure psychiatric hospital. Mie is visited by Detective Inspector Wolkers who claims she was the last person seen with a man named Thomas Spectre, before he vanished. As a witness and prime suspect, she appears to be the sole key in this mysterious disappearance. Mie can’t be released from the hospital until Thomas is found.

In order to solve the puzzle and find Thomas, Mie has to reconstruct her lost memories and find her way back through the dark labyrinth of her recent past.

The more she remembers, the more she starts to mistrust not only the people around her, but also … herself.

Are these recollections real or mere figments of her imagination in a desperate attempt to fill in the blanks?

Tabula Rasa is a subjective story told by an unreliable narrator: our main character, Mie, is suffering from amnesia. The viewer knows as much or as little as she does. We follow her on a journey into the black holes of her mind. Two storylines are woven together in flashbacks.

The present storyline starts with the winter weeks that Mie spends in the psychiatric hospital, where visits from DI Wolkers and her family members start triggering her memories. The past storyline recounts Mie’s memories in chronological order, starting in autumn with the move to her grandparents’ house in the forest, and ending with the disappearance of Thomas Spectre, just before her committal to the psychiatric hospital.

The Bridge (Danish: Broen; Swedish: Bron) is a Scandinavian TV crime series with storylines featuring the Øresund Bridge that links Malmö in Sweden with Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen. In the most recent, third season, the iconic Saga Norén was assigned to investigate a series of ritual killings of public figures. While dealing with private difficulties and a murder charge of her own, Saga was assisted by her talented new Danish colleague Henrik Sabroe. Now, set almost two years later, Sofia Helin and Thure Lindhardt are reprising their roles as Saga and Henrik in the heart-stopping final season.

A woman is found brutally murdered on Peberholm, a small artificial island in the Danish part of the Øresund strait, at the base of the bridge. The body is that of Margrethe Thormod, Director General of the Migration Agency in Copenhagen, who was recently embroiled in a deportation scandal. Henrik begins to explore the macabre murder with his Danish colleague, Jonas Mandrup.

Apart from the murder investigation, both Henrik and Saga face personal crises in this fourth series. Henrik is missing his colleague and friend Saga, who is now incarcerated in the women’s prison in Ystad after being convicted of murdering her mother. Henrik visits her as often as he can and desperately wants her assistance with this new case. However, her predicament renders her unable to help. Henrik’s search for his missing daughters is also frustrated by Saga’s imprisonment and he comes close to giving up. But theirs is a special friendship that prevails despite the shadow of past events and survives despite when put to the test.

The overarching theme of the series is identity. The plots themselves raise the practical problems surrounding false passports and identities, but in examining their own identities and those of the offenders and victims they encounter, the main characters invite viewers to ask similar existential questions. Who am I? Who do I want to be? How am I perceived by others? And how do I want to be perceived?

Season 2: In Production

Living with my Ex is a poignant comedy drama series that follows the chaotic lives of five recently divorced couples and their families. Wanting to make the situation as painless as possible for themselves and their children, they move into an apartment building designed specifically for the needs of divorcees with children.

It is a nice idea to give the adults the privacy required to start a new life while allowing the children to be close to their parents, but this rational solution doesn’t make the residents any smarter or more mature. We are exposed to see the harsh reality. What happens when people try to deny primitive feelings and act like adults in a situation that is anything but simple? In-between the laughter, this series examines the idea of therapy and alternative ways of resolving family problems.

Summertime Madness takes a sometimes sideways look at serious questions prompted by the synchroneity of a mid-life crisis and a coming of age. It is summertime in smart suburbia. Frank, married with two children and in his mid-forties, gets to know Sascha, his 19-year-old neighbour. Both are very unhappy with their current lives and looking for an escape.

Frank’s wife Carmen has been cheating for some time, and he receives little respect from his children or the employees in his company. He contemplates suicide as an escape. Then Sascha enters his chaotic world. Her sense of emptiness and isolation originates from a future for her that has been mapped out by her parents, but which she does not wish to pursue. As the daughter of a well-off family, the world is her oyster, but she only wants to be acknowledged for who she is.

The prison sitcom Behind Bars returns for a second series with the three cellmates still behind bars. Graf has abandoned all hope of an early release and resorted to unrestrained indulgement in mind-altering substances, while Erdem remains a big-hearted wannabe gang leader who can’t hold his tongue.

Caught in the middle of the trio like a deflated teddy bear is Manni, a benevolent soul who rather enjoys his life in jail, thanks to his companions and psychologist Nora. The inmates regularly attend her sessions and, despite a series of calamitous setbacks, she remains convinced that everyone can be helped by therapy. Meanwhile, the impulsive nature of the despotic prison governor Dr Kempers remains (almost) unbroken. Fellow inmate Ivan, leader of a Russian mob, makes life difficult for the trio and puts their friendship to the test.

Disappeared — The M. P. U. focuses on a team of detectives in the Berlin Criminal Investigation Department whose job is to uncover the fate of people who have disappeared without trace.

The key players in the missing persons squad are chief detective inspector Oliver Radek and his colleagues Mina Amiri, Sandra Reiss and Daniel Prinz. Radek and his team research their subjects’ lives in minute detail in order to reveal the truth surrounding the missing people. As archaeologists of human biographies, they pore over endless fragments to create pictures riddled with countless contradictions. Questions can be answered only by becoming intimately familiar with the person they are looking for. Most of their investigations have a happy ending, but even in other cases, the facts they bring to light enable the victims’ loved ones to break free from their suffering.

The Team from Never Too Late for Justice is headed by the passionate forensic scientist Dr Katrin Stoll and her detective chief inspector. They assiduously investigate unresolved cases in the light of newly uncovered leads or evidence, seeking not only to identify the offenders, but to discover the truth on behalf of victims’ families and friends. The team are acutely aware that victims’ loved ones cannot be released from the torment and anguish of uncertainty until the perpetrators have been found and their motives understood.

They are driven by a desire to uncover the truth — for example to help parents of a missing man understand that he had been killed and buried, and not broken off contact with them. They also empathise with inmates who are seeking to overcome injustice and re-integrate in society after being convicted of murder despite always protesting their innocence.
