Most of us bounce

from one job to

the next without

putting much

thought into it.

Our only focus is

to earn enough

money to make

ends meet and have enough left for our personal

expenses. Because we are all too busy trying to earn

money, we forget to focus on our career planning. It

is a must for everyone to focus on their careers as

well. Doing so will allow them to keep track of their

progress. If you fail to monitor your development,

you won't be able to determine if you are doing

something right or not. In addition to that, you will

fail to see which aspects you need to fix or address

immediately.

Always keep in mind to know yourself first and

determine your talents and limitations. On top of

that, you need to make a list of goals you want to

achieve. See to it that these goals will help pave your

way towards the career you have always dreamt of

having.

If you want to go after a certain job title in the future,

you need to see to it that you choose the

opportunities that will help you reach your goals.

Although you may have planned things out early on,

you need to be prepared for changes so that you will

be able to make the necessary adjustments. Being

prepared is necessary so that you won't be caught off

guard when something unplanned takes place.

Planning out the path you want to take takes some

time and effort. First and foremost, you need to

organize yourself. On top of that, you should

determine the areas you are good at, and the skills

and talents you have that can help you achieve your

goals. Maximize and work with what you have as

opposed to focusing most of your energy on what you

do not have. When you are aware and accept what

skills, abilities, and talents you have, you will be able

to work with them and deal with certain situations

efficiently.

As we all know, changes occur to our economy at a

rapid pace. Because of this, it tends to complicate

things and can pose as a challenge. Instead of fighting

these changes and complaining that it disrupted your

plans, you should learn to accept and learn from

them. Although it pays to plan your career one step at

a time, you need to be flexible and prepared for

unforeseen changes. Being prepared will allow you to

plan things accordingly and make it possible to

analyze and assess the situation you are presented

with.

If you want to get the best job there is, you need to

work with what you have and hone the skills you

were blessed with. Doing so will enable you to

maximize the opportunities you will be presented

with. Once you accomplish this, you will get

promoted in no time and land your dream career.

Choosing a career to

pursue is without a

doubt one of the

biggest decisions you

are going to make in

your life. It doesn’t

matter if you are a

fresh graduate, an experienced businessman, or a

mid-career professional, career planning and goal

setting are important components of your eventual

success. It is one thing to plan a career path or set

career goals, and it’s another thing to set realistic

goals and doable plans.

As you start planning out your career, the first thing

you should come up with are your long term goals.

While it may seem that your career is a category

that’s separate from your life, you should realize that

all aspects of both your career and your life are

interconnected. Thus, as you plan your career, do not

take for granted your personal life goals as well.

Goal Setting

One excellent way you can motivate yourself is to set

career goals. Once you have a clear set of goals, you

should then come up with a plan, and make sure you

keep track of your progress. It is also important that

you target particular milestones along the way and

take note also of when these milestones should be

accomplished. In setting your goals, be realistic to

avoid frustrations, but make they are enough to

motivate and challenge you.

Taking Action

You have to be keen on looking for career or job

opportunities. This can be done by looking into

business organizations, career centers or similar

resources where you can gain insight on your chosen

field. Never stop building your skill set also to make

sure you are continuously making yourself valuable

in the job market. Of course, don’t forget to grab

every opportunity you get to build your network as

this could offer you important connections later on.

Self Evaluation

You have to understand that career planning is not a

one-time thing. It is a process of continuous

evaluation and taking action. Bear in mind as well

that the goals you have for your career should be

flexible. Although you must not give up your dreams

and aspirations just because the challenges are too

overwhelming, you need to have that flexibility that

will allow your priorities and values to change or

shift as you face adversities and then move on with

your life. This way, you will not end up getting stuck

in a career pathway that doesn’t seem to match you

in a particular job market.

Being an executive in a

company is a big

thing. It’s like every

worker’s dream. As an

executive, you have a

lot of big

responsibilities, you

make a lot of

important decisions,

and you play an important role in setting the

direction of the company. With such importance, it

does not come as a surprise that this position is

highly-regarded and respected.

The path towards becoming an executive isn’t that

easy. It takes a lot of learning, training, overcoming

challenges, and skills to even be considered to hold

one of the company’s highest positions. And so, those

who have this role tend to feel that they have

everything that it takes to be a boss, and that there is

no need for further learning or training.

If that’s the case, what is executive coaching for? Do

executives really need coaches and mentors? Here

are some reasons why they may find coaching very

helpful:

• Executive coaches are there to offer new ideas

and other possible career pathways to consider.

It’s only natural for an executive like to feel as if

you have reached the highest point in your

career. But coaches know that you could be

something bigger and more important.

• An executive coach will help you be more

accountable. With all the power and authority

that you have in your position, it becomes easy to

take things for granted. But by working with a

coach, you will learn that you are accountable not

only to the higher ranking officers, but even to

your subordinates.

• As you work with a coach, it will be easy for you

to see what your real worth in the market is. Of

course, a higher position always comes with a

better compensation structure. Your coach will

teach you how to properly negotiate a salary, and

how your company will not refuse whatever it is

that you are asking for.

• Your coach can be your friend. Your conversation

with your coach should not be limited to topics

about work and your career. You can consider

him or her your friend. You can be honest

without being worried that you will be judged.

You can say about your wildest professional

dreams. In short, he or she can serve as a friend

or a therapist for you.

• Executive coaches help professionals manage

their long-term career paths. Your coach will be

there to give you direction and to guide you as

you make important decisions regarding your life

and career.
