Secondary Schools Comic Art Competition
Additional Information
WHAT IS IT?
The Secondary Schools Comic Art Competition is your chance to showcase your comic or graphic novel
inspired artwork, in the lead up to Clydebank Museum and Art Gallery’s summer exhibition, Comic
Invention.
WHAT WE WANT
We want to see a drawing or design inspired by your favourite comic book, graphic novel, or associated
characters. Your artwork can be in full colour or black and white, and drawn in materials of your choice.
Submissions should be made on either A4 or A3 size paper. A completed application form should be paper
clipped to your finished artwork, upon submission.
WHEN WE WANT IT
The closing date for entries is Thursday, 30th March 2017. All entries should be handed in to your School
Librarian/School Library Co-ordinator, or your local public library by 30th March. Any artworks received
after this date will not be considered.
WHAT DO YOU GET?
AN EXHIBITION: If your work is shortlisted, it will be framed and exhibited in the Garden Gallery in
Clydebank Town Hall between 5th and 30th of May 2017.
PRIVATE VIEW INVITEs: Shortlisted artists will be invited to attend a Private View of the Secondary
Schools Comic Art Competition exhibition, together with family and friends, on the evening of Thursday 4th
May. The Private View will be held in the Garden Gallery at Clydebank Town Hall from 6pm – 7.30pm.
Shortlisted artists will also be invited to the Comic Invention exhibition Private View at Clydebank Museum
and Art Gallery on Thursday 25th May.
ART MATERIALS: From the shortlisted entries on show in the Garden Gallery exhibition, one winner
from each age group (S1/2, S3/4, and S5/6) will be selected by Scottish comic book artist Frank Quitely,
best known for drawing Batman, Superman, and the X-men. Overall winners will be announced during
the Private View, and will receive a gift voucher to spend on art materials.
A FRAMED COPY OF YOUR ARTWORK: All shortlisted artists will have their framed artwork
returned to them at the exhibition close.
