On Sunday 17 March Scone Public School played in the Group 21 Rugby League Carnival at Scone Park. We entered five teams with all teams making it to the finals with the Under 7 and 8 teams winning their finals.

A big thank you to coaches Jade Smith, Clint Stephens, Peter O’Brien, Leif Harrington, Rick McInerney and Shaun Seckold and the trainers on the day Brendan Johnston, Seth Stephens, Shannon Brooks and Adam Cuschieri. Without your help and support, the teams wouldn’t be able to play.

Thanks to all the parents, grandparents and families that braved the weather and came along to support our teams.

HUNTER SOCCER TRIALS

Last Wednesday five boys and two girls attended the Hunter Soccer Trials at Bill Rose Oval. The students played many small games against each other with the selectors watching closely. Finally, after watching close to 60 participants they announced the teams of eleven. Scone Public School had three students make the Hunter Team! Congratulations to Eloise who made it into the girl’s team and Zoran and Atticus who made it into the boy's team. Thank you to the parents who transported and stayed to watch the selection process.

TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEY

I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au

The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at our school.

I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 18 March and 12 April. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.

A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home with students. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by Friday 15 March, 2019. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents.

SRC News A few reminders: The SRC would like to remind you to donate to the Stewart House Foundation.

Stewart House is a venue in Sydney that provides quality respite care for NSW school students. While the students are there they receive a full medical and dental check-up as well as having an amazing holiday that their family is unable to provide for them. The students visit Taronga Zoo, the beach, the movies and other great places in Sydney. They spend time doing some lessons, lots of art/craft activities and games. The staff is an enthusiastic group of teachers and other care givers.

Epilepsy Awareness Day (Purple Day) is on Tuesday, 26 March. Children are invited to wear a little bit of purple eg: purple ribbon around your wrist, purple hair accessories etc. with their normal school uniform.

Harmony Day is on Thursday, 21st March. Our school Captains will be doing a small presentation during assemblies. Classes will also be given some activities to do in class.

We also looking for donations to put into our Fairy Garden. eg: toy furniture and food. Small toys- anything that could be used for imaginative play. If you have anything that you would like to donate please bring to Mrs Russ in KR or leave at the front office.

We will also be holding our annual Easter Egg Raffle. More details to come shortly.
