This is an exciting opportunity to experience unadulterated exhilaration, complete with all the thrills and skills you’ll need to impress an audience, and yourself. Imagine a week mastering the toe-to-toe on a tightrope, becoming a juggernaut at juggling, or sailing through the aerial disciplines and floor exercises, all of it wrapped up in the magical, magnificent ambiance of Cirque. Part fantasy, part performance, and totally fun. No experience is required, and there are separate programs for kids, teens and adults. At the end of the week, witness the professionals in action on the Mainstage at Proctors.Over the past three decades, the circus has emerged as one of the most popular performance arts, and now it’s your turn to be the star. This summer, run away to the Cirque Éloize, right here at Proctors! After a week you’re back home with a lifetime of memories to relive… and, we suspect, a new tightrope in the backyard.

Twirling through the halls, swingin’ in the street? Give yourself the space, attention and experience you deserve with BROADWAY DANCE, the program that will bring you just a hop, skip and Bandy Twist from the New York City stage! Training will focus on self-expression, choreographed combinations and distilling good technique to take to any stage with confidence. Prior dance experience is required, as is willingness to get sweaty, staccato and jazzy! For dancers aged 10 - 14.

Have a dream of Broadway and an itch to wear someone else’s shoes for a while? Well then tie your shoelaces tight at BROADWAY CAMP JUNIOR, where you will have masterclasses from Broadway and industry professionals in voice, acting and dance. A headshot and resumé-building session will round out the week-long class, giving you the tools to better understand the world of an actor and singer striving for the limelight! For young thespians aged 12-14.

Age rAnge: 12 – 14 skill level: Performance experience and prior acting and dance training required for enrollment.

prior prepArATion required: Students must come prepared with 1 monologue (2-3 minutes) and 1 song with piano score (2-3 minutes). TuiTion: $330 before May 1st or $350 after May 1st (payment plans are available).

Tony-Award winning singer and actor Kevin McGuire, along with cast members from the touring production of ANYTHING GOES, produce this two-week camp for those young stars that want to get their foot in the golden door of Broadway! Refine your breathing, hit your mark, find the conflict, project, and reach for those high notes you never thought you’d hit, all on the Proctors stage, coached by the world’s best performers and teachers. Every actor will get a professional headshot and help building a savvy, industry-conscious resumé. If the sight of that rising curtain opens your eyes wide with excitement, this is the camp for you -- where you can discover the power, discipline and technique of the theatre, revealed to you by the very people who helped shape it! For thespians aged 15-19.

What is your story, and how do you want to tell it? Get the tools to find out with REEL ADVENTURES, the hands-on program where you learn how to make the vision in your head a story for all to experience! Nationally recognized videographer and moviemaker Michael Feurstein uses industry-standard equipment and the ideas of his students to help them bring to life movies that have been recognized nationally for their story and execution. This two-week intensive, back by popular demand, is sure to open the floodgates of expression as you learn to navigate the vast medium of film. For middle-school aged moviemakers.

For all ages, experience levels and instruments, JAZZ INSTITUTE will immerse you in an atmosphere of improvisation and performance the way jazz itself was born -- from heart first, then ear, and finally through horn, key, drum or string! No sheet music. No scales, or learning by rote. Keith Pray, nationally renowned saxophonist and instructor, and Arthur Falbush, professor at SUNY Oneonta, lead a group of instructors covering every instrument class. You will receive one-on-one attention and improvisation exercises within your groups, culminating in a performance of the entire JAZZ INSTITUTE that gives each and every musician the confidence and the tools to groove, solo and play out!

Audition on Monday. Lights up on Friday. In-between is the whirlwind creation of THE SECRET GARDEN, the latest of internationally acclaimed touring company MISSOULA CHILDREN’S THEATRE’s collaborative adventures! For actors from 1st - 12th grade, MISSOULA will reduce the competitive stress of auditioning by holding a fun group audition, leading directly into a week of rehearsal as prelude to a performance on the Mainstage at Proctors! MISSOULA’s professional actors will impart useful acting lessons, enmeshed in rigorous rehearsals and zany acting games. MISSOULA has the experience, training and passion to pull off the fastest and most enriching weeklong theatre experience the Capital District has to offer!

Got a young diva on your hands, just dying for a stage? Or a shy little guy hiding inside his shell? Let both shine at ACTING OUT!, a great introduction to the basic skills of acting through games, improvisation, and a final performance just for you parents! This one-week long camp focuses on those core skills that every actor needs regardless of age -- self-confidence, awareness of others, creativity, cooperation and the permission that the stage gives to act like a goofball sometimes! Each day, your young stars will learn to project clearly, allow their improvised ideas to grow, trust in their instincts and to listen to others. As a class, we will build a final presentation, and one where you might be surprised at how much your child was just dying to have the right place to ACT OUT! For actors 7-10 years old.

Spontaneity, humor and invention abound in IMPROV ANYWHERE, the program that flexes those mental muscles of reaction and wit! This two-week long course encourages your child to be goofy and spontaneous, all the while training its students to authentically listen and react through improv games and exercises. Taught by a seasoned professional, your kids will learn not only to make jokes, but to be genuine, live in the moment, think on their feet and to approach situations saying ‘yes, and!’ - a skill not just for improv, but for life! The camp culminates in a performance for family and friends. For spunky 9-13 year olds.

Faculty will help these young performers strip away stigma and unlearn embarrassment through improv games, group invention, prop-based skits and the embrace of theatre! For two weeks, your child will dress up in costume, create props and games and challenge their assumptions in IMAGINE THAT!, a program that reveals that the world of imagination and creativity belongs to them. The camp culminates in a performance for family and friends.

This summer, Capital Repertory Theatre offers two exciting youth programs!

In a real-world theatre environment, Summer Theatre At the Rep (STAR) gives young producers, performers and writers the freedom to let loose their creative energies and work together to build a show from the ground up.

Also, new this Summer, the one-week Acting Intensive, created especially for those who are serious about the craft of acting. Young performers focus on technique and sharpen their skills as actors, while receiving valuable insight from industry professionals.
