The building of our school is one of the oldest school buildings in Jasło

county; it was built in 1904. At first it was a school for girls.

During the First and the Second World War the building was occupied by

hostile armies which badly damaged the school. In 1944 German army burnt

down the building. Luckily the ceilings and the floors weren‟t totally damaged

and in March 1945 primary students could learn in four renovated classrooms.

Lessons were starting quite early (at 7.30) because other schools were using the

classrooms as well.

The first school of the village of Petreşti was founded in 1922 and

was carrying out its activity in a building with only one classroom, in which

were simultaneously studying the classes from 1st grade to 4

th. Later, in 1955,

another building was built with three more classrooms, and the unit was

transformed from a primary school to a lower secondary school/ gymnasium

school. Between 1958 and 1960 gymnasium learning moved at the Greci School

for a two year period, time during which at Petreşti a modern building with five

classrooms was being built.

In 1986 the actual building was built, and from the old building only

two classrooms remained, independent from the new building.

The 1st primary school, our school, founded on 1885, after the

liberation of the Ottomans. At first the building was made by wood. On 1919,

the new building was made by stones in front of the village square. On 1934,

people of the village decided to build a larger school in a new position, more

suitable for the students. So, they made a modern building that exists till

today.

In 1934,when the new building was ready, the parents of the students

planted 150 pine-trees, one for each student.

In nowadays, a lot of those pine- trees have been destroyed. In spite of

the damage, in the school yard, there is a small grove of pine-trees in

which many kinds of birds live. For example there are storks, herons, etc.

In the school year 2010/2011 our school became part of the schools‟

assembly of Alcoutim‟s Municipality.

This assembly integrates two schools, one located in Martim Longo and

the other in Alcoutim.

Our class belongs to the school of Martim Longo.

Martinlongo’s school

Martinlongo‟s school is located in a very small town called Martim

Longo. It has about 800 inhabitants and belongs to the municipality of

Alcoutim, characterized by its weak economical development, since it has no

industry and most of its population either works in public services or in

agriculture.

In Martim Longo one can‟t purchase newspapers or magazines, because

there isn‟t a newsagent's. The only shops you can find here are small traditional

groceries. Martim Longo has neither a theatre nor a cinema. Most kids live with

their families in small villages, most of them with no more than 10 inhabitants,

almost isolated from the rest of the „world‟. Some of these children live only

with adults or older people, without having kids to talk to and play with. The

only contact they have with youngsters and with people of different ages and

lifestyles is when they come to school.

Our school has 160 pupils aged between 6 and 16 years old. We also have

foreign students, from African countries and from recent European countries

like Moldova. Four children with special needs attend our school, too.

It has always been the purpose of Martinlongo‟s School to stand as a

meaningful resource centre. A place that promotes not only sociability, as well

as the well-being of the entire school community, trying to serve above all

students‟ interests and needs, regarding their different cultural, economic and

social backgrounds.

Our aim and purpose is also to give students the opportunity to learn and

develop themselves integrally, through a quality teaching process guided by

criteria likely to succeed.
