SCF ice experience deeply rooted into Russia’s long history of exploration of the Northern

Sea Route

SCF crews jointly accumulated years of practical experience of navigation in ice bound

waters

SCF goes step by step in implementation of new technologies based on gained expertise

Yamal Peninsula: Harsh Environment Requires

Special Skills and Knowledge The Yamal Peninsula - North of Western Siberia,

bordered by the Kara Sea to the West and by Ob Bay

to the East

Subarctic and Arctic climate:

Average annual temperature of minus 9°

Absolute minimum temperature of minus 57°

Strong winds (speed 32 m/sec) and blizzards

Long-lasting ice cover (about 300 days a year)

Yamal contains substantial gas and oil reserves.

One of the projects is Yamal LNG developed by a

consortium of NOVATEK, Total, CNPC and Silk Road

Fund

The resource base supporting the construction of

an LNG facility currently exceeds 10 TCM

3 Trains of Yamal LNG will produce 16.5 mt of LNG

per annum, commissioning of Train 1 is scheduled

in Q2 - Q4 2017

Some Aspects of Arctic Ships’ Design

Common Design Approach - to reduce water flooding on deck, safe passage ways, special location of potable water tanks.

All deck machinery, equipment and cables located on open decks are designed and approved for low temperature operations

All navigation and communication equipment, fire fighting equipment and saving appliances are suitable for low temperature operations

All air intakes for machinery equipment and ventilation systems are equipped with heaters

Proper thermal insulation for all compartments and air ducts

Enclosed bridge wings and heated glasses for all bridge windows

DAT Concept for Yamal Project Arctic LNG carrier is designed for safe and efficient operations in multiple ice

conditions as well as in open water: as a principle the vessel steams ahead in open

water and astern in ice.

Icy waters:

Vessel - ARC7 ice class tanker;

Vessel has a propulsion system specifically designed to sustain ice impact as

part of normal ship operation.

Astern heavy ice Ahead open sea &

light ice

Open Sea:

Bow designed for optimized open sea performance as well as ice breaking

operations;

Vessel is tri-fuel diesel-electric propulsion with full flexibility on fuel choice from

Gas, HFO and MDO.

Arctic Ice Trials

After call at Zeebrugge, where LNG was loaded for ice trials in gas mode, Christophe de

Margerie steamed up to the Arctic.

Vessel successfully passed Ice Trials over February and March 2017 performing ice

operations in the remote Kara and Laptev Seas.

Double Acting Ship Performance

Ice trials results

Speed astern in level ice of 150 cm equivalent ice thickness 7.2 kts

Speed ahead in level ice of 150 cm equivalent ice thickness 2.5 kts

Turning circle astern in an equivalent ice thickness of 1.7m 1760.6 m

The ridge forced the average cross section

- the three measured profiles > 650 m2

- ridge depth > 15 m

Maiden Call at Sabetta on March 29, 2017

Ice trials were ended by the voyage through newly dredged 50 km channel to the port of

Sabetta

Two nuclear icebreakers escorted LNGC in fresh water ice of Ob Bay

First LNG carrier arrival at port Sabetta proved vessel’s ability to navigate in severe ice

and weather conditions and confirmed readiness of Sabetta’s seaport infrastructure

SCF contribution to the environment improvement in the Baltic and Northern Seas – the new generation of Aframax

tankers with LNG-fueled engines

Pollution by seagoing vessels in the Baltic region can be comparable with total industrial pollution by the two

European countries, Sweden and Denmark, taken together

Oil sulphur containment restrictions implemented for SECA since January 1, 2015 gave a way for new technologies

and substitute of HFO by natural gas

SCF, being the major operator of Aframax tankers in the world focusing on crude oil and oil products export from

Russia, has designed together with Hyundai Heavy Industries a new generation of Aframax tanker which be capable

of burning gas as well as conventional fuels to meet both current and future emission legislation and provide a lower

carbon footprint in the environmentally sensitive areas where the vessels will trade.

15 Gastech Exhibition & Conference 4 - 7 April 2017 Tokyo, Japan

Co-operation with Russian Far-Eastern Shipyard Zvezda

Sovcomflot and Far-Eastern Centre of Shipbuilding in co-operation with foreign technology

partners are developing project of LNG-fueled tanker Aframax.

New generation of vessels will be built at Zvezda shipyard starting from 2020.

Rosneft the co-owner of Zvezda is encouraged to use environmental friendly vessels for trade,

especially at areas with air emission restrictions – Baltic and Northern Seas and North America

coastal waters
