Venture Crew nights are now “Community Shoot” nights Gabrielle Garrett

Venture Crew nights, scheduled on the 2nd and 4th Fridays will now be "Community Shoot Nights," where the gate will be open at 7:00 p.m., and any club member and their guests are welcome to come and shoot with us. These nights will be for practice or 450 Indoor Rounds. Hosted by Gabrielle Garrett and Dean Williams.

January Board motions Gabrielle Garrett

The following motions were passed at the January 19 Santa Cruz Archers Board meeting.

1. Put a log book at indoor range for all working members to log their work hours.

2. Have working members sign up to maintain an outdoor target for year, per the club constitution guidelines.

3. Put up a “No Pets Allowed” sign at indoor range. Dogs will still be allowed outdoors if on a leash per the park rules.

4. Add a “Do Not Enter” sign just past the practice range area to discourage non-archers from hiking or biking through into live range areas.

5. Have a 2016 Club Competition of scored events throughout the year that can be used for nice awards which will be given out at our year-end dinner. Each participant must be an approved club member and can shoot in up to 8 club shoots for scores. Participants may purchase up to 8 special competition scorecards at $1 each for the duration of year (to be purchased at club meetings or at designated times on weekends). The highest scores of two possible scorecards per person will be counted, for four official club tournaments of your choice: Indoor 300 Round, Indoor 450 Round, Outdoor Field/Hunter Round, and a specified 3D tournament (event and scoring TBA) or stump shoot. Participants must choose one bowstyle to compete with in all club competition tournaments in this calendar year. There will only be 4 age categories as follows: Under age 12; 12-17 y.o.; 18-54 y.o.; and 55+.

6. Hold a secret ballot, late in the year, for 10 club superstars of 2016. The voting will be based on who has done the most outstanding work for the club and is not to be based on who is the best archer. The 10 members with the most votes will also get special awards at the year-end dinner.

Holiday dinner and novelty shoot deemed a success! Gabrielle Garrett

The Dec. 6 outdoor holiday novelty shoot was a fun family event and included a few non-members. Andy put up fun “12 Days of Christmas” themed targets on the practice range, including toys and rubber chickens to shoot at.

The dinner was just for club members, and 42 members attended. Erick's smoked turkey was amazingly delicious, and he even made cranberry sauce for it. All the foods and desserts were delicious, and we were all stuffed when the meal was over. Susan Bertram made lovely holiday table decorations with jars of candy canes and light strings.

2015 was a great year for Santa Cruz Archers, and it was so nice for everyone to get together at the end to celebrate. Hopefully, this will be an annual event.

Working members: sign up to maintain one target We are asking all working members to sign up for a target to maintain. You should do light maintenance such as picking up trash and pulling Scotch broom. Report any needed repairs to a Board member. We have a signup sheet that we bring to the monthly club meeting. Membership chair Lynn Rollins will contact working members to sign up.

Adjournment at 8:12 pm.

February meeting minutes Andy Sterbenz 2/2/2016 7:30 p.m.

President’s report (Andy Sterbenz) 1. Happy Groundhog Day. Punxatawney Phil says we’ll have an early spring.

2. The SCA Board met on January 19.

a. Erick will be changing out the locks on the back rooms. Exchange old keys for new as needed.

b. The cage in the back is locked to (1) control the repair supplies and (2) prevent misuse of the old bow press. People have been bypassing the locks so we’ll be tack-welding the gate. Should the arrow saw be moved into the bow closet? [Answer was arrow saw and the large paper targets.]

c. The Board discussed working member tracking. The Club Constitution requires all working members to be assigned a target to maintain. (1) There is a sign-up sheet for targets to circulate. Multiple members can share a target as long as all are covered. (2) We will have a log book on the counter for work hours, with a page for each working member/family.

Please log your time when you come through the range.

d. The indoor range is supposed to be a No Pets area (club motion several years ago). We will post a sign. Exceptions are at the discretion of the occupants at the time.

e. The Board discussed adding an “Active Archery Range” sign along the entrance road to alert hikers/bikers. We should also put some range use waivers outside in a waterproof bin.

f. Gabrielle has a proposal for a club member awards competition (see new business).

g. The CBH Big Game Club holds an annual raffle (see new business).

h. Reminder that if you are hosting a shoot, remember to collect the fees. At least have archers buy the paper target for the indoor shoot, or the fee for the outdoor shoot.

Treasurer’s report (Susan Bertram) The Club is still solvent.

Outdoor Range Captain’s report (Tyson Sheppard) Two trees fell on Target 22. The bow rack on 15 is damaged. Several Rock slides. It’s looking like a good work party this weekend.

Please do not park next to the port-a-pot when it is muddy. The tire ruts mess up the drainage.

Indoor Range Captain’s report (Cindee Damron and Emery Parrish) (Absent – No Report).

Publicity Chair’s report (Gabrielle Garrett) Check out new items on the outdoor bulletin board.

Web Master’s report (Henry Bertram) No report.

January meeting minutes Andy Sterbenz 1/5/2016 7:30 p.m.

President’s report (Andy Sterbenz) 1. Happy New Year.

2. The Mission Trails Bowhunter Assn. Regional Board met on December 16. • Belle Leporini volunteered as the Regional

Treasurer/Secretary • SCA won the Club Of The Year competition. Top 3 in the

standings were SCA (186), MMB (144), and BMB (102). • The Board approved adding young archers to the club

competition. PW, C, Y & YA earn points for participation starting this year.

• Archers can only compete as part of one club, so whichever club you declare at the first shoot is it for the year.

• Regional membership is a nested system. You can join just MTBA ($10/year); or you can join CBH/SAA and they enroll you in MTBA based on address; or you can join NFAA and they will enroll you in CBH/SAA, and thus MTBA.

• The Regional Board approved donating $500 to the CBH Legislative Fund and $500 to the CBH Archery Foundation (future museum).

• The 2016 Regional Shoots will be Field Round Sunday, April 10 (SCA), 3D Sunday May 22, 900 Round in August, 450 Round 12/13 November.

• Clubs that converted to rice straw bales reported that they are not holding up against compound bows as well as super bales. Curtis will be placing an order for super bales in January if we want some.

so folks can shoot two styles. Henry was agreeable but said we need to make sure we have 3 people at the second session for legal scoring.

4. Cody asked if we can add more style categories for young archers. Tyson pointed out that NFAA defines the classes and they may have fewer for youths and cubs. Cody will look up the rules and report back.
