Welcome to our Faithful Parishioners and All Those who may be ‘Just Visiting’
Jesus washed the feet of his apostles at the Last Supper as a sign of loving service, instructing them “as I have done this to you so must you do for one another.” We as a family of faith strive to live this commandment of love in doing all that we can to welcome you as we invite you to be an active member of this community. Welcome new parishioners! If you are new to our parish, I invite you to introduce yourself to me or any of the other priests after Sunday Mass, or when you come into the rectory to register. Even though we are a large parish, we make every effort to come to know you and your family personally so that we may be better able to serve you. So please be sure to say hello! -Fr. Ken

Fr. Ken’s Corner
Dear Brothers and Sisters of Saint Rose of Lima Parish, Today’s Gospel is one that causes us to immediately stop and pause. Throughout His ministry of healing, of teaching and preaching that the Kingdom of God is at hand, Jesus constantly repeated that this Kingdom, His Kingdom, was not of this world. In a very subtle sense, Jesus is also reminding us that the kingdom we should be seeking is not of this world. Like the Jews of His own day, we can (and should) take pride in the beauty of our church and in any place of worship. Yet Jesus constantly reminds the people of his own day – and through the gospels – that while being in a beautiful place of worship can uplift our minds and hearts in order to provide an atmosphere to give aid and inspiration to our prayer, one day any and all of those human constructions we find so inspiring will no longer exist. In the end, like what will happen to the Temple at Jerusalem, these places of worship will be nothing but a pile of rock; “not one stone will be left on another.” Jesus does not tell us these things merely to frighten us, but rather as a plain statement of what will be. First, there will be those who will try to deceive us, saying that they come in Christ’s name. The command from Jesus is simple; “DO NOT FOLLOW THEM.” In the Gospel Message, we have all the knowledge, all the instructions we need, and St. Paul also constantly reminds those early Christian Communities that if anyone, even an angel, comes with a ‘gospel’ contrary to what you have received, shun them. Although fear does have a place in His message, Christ’s purpose is to warn us about the inevitable. Jesus wants to make very clear that there will be a time when His followers will suffer persecution; and when these events happen, they should not be surprised or taken aback when it does occur. The followers of Jesus will experience what Jesus experienced, all the distain and all the hatred we hear about with the Passion Narratives. Perhaps we need to expect it in our lives. The second half of this gospel reading is what interests me and should also be of interest to you. We are told that we will be seized and persecuted. We will be stood before kings and governors to be judged by them. We are reminded of that ancient test asking, “If you were accused of being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?” But far from the evidence of others, we will be, in fact, giving testimony against ourselves. If we acknowledge Jesus as Savior and Lord, by our words and even more so by our actions, it is that testimony that will condemn us in the eyes of the world. It is that testimony that will bring us to the Kingdom of God, for Jesus reminds us that “EVERYONE who acknowledges me before others, I will acknowledge before my Heavenly Father” (MT10:32). But most importantly, Jesus tells us, “Remember, you are not to prepare a defense beforehand.” What?! Our Lord’s next words tell us why he says this - because nothing we can say on our own will save us. Rather, what has been taught to the Jewish Nation all the way back to time events of the Exodus and to us through the life of Jesus himself is that we are not to rely on our own strength, but we are to trust in the Power and Wisdom of God. There is little doubt that events over the last few decades leading up to many recent events could persuade us that we are living in these ‘end times.’ Almost every generation of Jesus’ faithful disciples has thought the same. We are told that there will be unsettling events in our lifetime. We are also reminded that not a hair on our heads will be destroyed. This DOES NOT mean that we will escape suffering. It DOES MEAN that even if our bodies are harmed, nothing can destroy our relationship with God – By your perseverance, you will secure your lives; by your perseverance, you will secure eternal life!

Feast of Christ the King
Next Sunday is the Feast of Christ the King. I am inviting you and asking you to dress in your very best as we honor Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. I invite you to demonstrate your prayerful reverence in a particular way on this feast
which closes the Liturgical Year. Let’s make Sunday, November 20, the Feast of Christ the King, “Dress Up to Meet the King” Sunday. We call Christ Our King, a title which truly is inadequate to describe the Total Lordship of Jesus Christ. Yet the concept of kingship is one that we can all understand. If we had the oppor-tunity to personally meet royalty, we would dress in our very best for that occasion. Please come dressed in your “Sunday Best.” We do, in fact, come into The King’s Presence each time we enter church, so let us acknowledge this in a special way on this special feast. God Our Father has given us the best in the Gift of His Son and let us return the honor. - Fr. Ken

Saint Agnes Medal of Service
Diocese of Rockville Centre
Dear Parishioners,
Please join me in congratulating Rosalie Becker who has been chosen from our parish to receive this year’s St. Agnes Medal of Service. As you may know, this diocesan honor is awarded to people from each of the parishes throughout the dio-cese in recognition of long and faithful service to the church. Rosalie will be receiv-ing this wonderful honor bestowed by Bishop Murphy at a prayer service of thanks-giving at St. Agnes Cathedral on Sunday afternoon, November 20 at 3:00 pm. Rosalie Becker has been a member of St. Rose of Lima Parish for 20 years, and has been a dedicated Minister of the gospel from day one. She has served in the R.C.I.A. parish program as a Faith Companion, and has been its Director for over a decade. In a similar vein, Rosalie has been a member of our Baptismal Prepara-tion team. In both instances, she has been a wonderful witness of living our faith, sharing our faith and being a sturdy companion on the journey of faith. - Fr. Ken

Founded in 1959, St. Rose of Lima School is a thriving parish Catholic elementary school in the Diocese of Rockville Centre. Following New York State Common Core Standards, the school educates students through eighth grade, with full-day Kindergarten as well as a part-time Preschool Program for Nursery and Pre-Kindergarten children. Thanks to the spiritual and financial school and parish support, our tuition rate continues to be among the lowest in the diocese. - LEADERSHIP- Our Principal, Sister Kathleen, a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Amityville, is
an award winning, state certified administrator with more than 36 years experience. - ACADEMICS- The majority of our faculty is state certified and hold Masters’ Degrees. Each grade
level consists of two classes with small class sizes and low student-to-teacher ratios. - PRESCHOOL- Our nursery program for three year olds concentrates on readiness and social
skills while our academic-oriented Pre -K program concentrates on Kindergarten readiness, aligned with NYS standards.
- FAITH –Strong Catholic education, morals, and values are instilled via daily Religious instruction, participation in Mass and other Sacraments as well as through service projects.
- WELL-ROUNDED CURRICULUM- In addition to core subjects, our students receive weekly instruction in Music, Art, Gym, Library, Learning Center, Computer and Spanish.
- TECHNOLOGY- We use state-of-the-art teaching tools, including interactive Smart Boards, LCD projectors, video equipment and a green screen, both Apple and PC computer labs, Chrome Books and tablet iPads.
- ACHIEVEMENT- St. Rose of Lima students continue to excel with impressive results on the High School Entrance Exams resulting in the majority of our 8
th graders applying to Catholic High
Schools at a 100% acceptance rate. We proudly note that many students received full or partial scholarships.

The Saint Rose of Lima Christmas Fair Committee
On October 3, the 8th grade students of St. Rose of Lima School visited the 9/11 Museum in lower Manhattan. Viewing the photographs, artifacts and documents of that horrific day gave the students a deeper insight into the national tragedy of 9/11 and a broader understanding of the world they live in.
Genevieve - “My heart sank deeper and deeper as I stepped into each room. I never truly understood these tragic events until the visit to the museum.”
Tom - “Since my generation was not born in 2001, the museum was our way of experiencing 9/11 and feeling part of this national tragedy.”
St. Rose of Lima School News
The fifth grade sailed aboard the Yankee III. During the 3 hour journey they learned about the various sea creatures in the Great South Bay. They made plankton nets and used them to catch plankton. The crew dredged for mollusks and crustaceans. The class was able to view their findings under a microscope. They also learned about the navigational system aboard the Yankee III.
