1 Getting Started

This section of the guide contains important information that you need to read before starting your

update or upgrade process.

1.1 Essential Information: Required Documentation

You are currently reading the Upgrade and Update Guide – SAP ERP 6.0 Including Enhancement Package 5

ABAP. This guide only contains information specific to SAP ERP, but you need additional information

to be able to perform your upgrade/update correctly.

NOTE

Specifically, you need to use the following guide in parallel to the Upgrade and Update Guide – SAP

ERP 6.0 Enhancement Package 5 ABAP: Update Guide – Update of SAP Systems Using Software Update Manager

<latest version>.

You have to use Software Update Manager (SUM) guide in parallel with this application-specific

guide, because the two types of guides complement each other – the SUM guide contains the

overall process, tool, operating system and database-specific information while this guide contains

the application-specific information.

The latest version of the SUM guide is available on the SAP Service Marketplace at: http://

service.sap.com/sltoolset Software Logistics Toolset 1.0 .

SAP ECC System and SAP System

In this document, the term “SAP system” is the same as “SAP ECC system”. “SAP” is also used as a

synonym for “SAP ECC” in terms such as “SAP start profile” or “SAP system language”.

SAP System ID

In this document, the SAP system ID is abbreviated as “SAPSID” or “sapsid”. If “<sapsid>” is used, your

SAP system ID must be in lowercase letters, for example “prd”. If “<SAPSID>” is used, you must write

in uppercase letters, for example “PRD”.

SAP R/3 Enterprise and SAP ERP Central Component

SAP ERP Central Component is the successor of SAP R/3 Enterprise. It consists of the SAP ERP Central

Component Core with SAP ERP Central Component Extension Set. In this document, the following

short forms are used:

■ “SAP ECC” for “SAP ERP Central Component”

■ “SAP ECC Core” for “SAP ERP Central Component Core”

■ “SAP ECC Extension Set ” for “SAP ERP Central Component Extension Set”

SAP NetWeaver Application Server, SAP Web Application Server, and SAP Basis

SAP NetWeaver 7.0 renames SAP Web Application Server as SAP NetWeaver Application Server. In

releases before 6.10, the component had been called SAP Basis. In this document, the terms are used as

follows:

■ The term “SAP NetWeaver Application Server” (or the short form “SAP NetWeaver AS”) is used

when referring to Release 7.0 and higher.

■ The term “SAP Web Application Server” (or the short form “SAP Web AS”) is used when referring

to Releases between 6.10 and 6.40.

2 Planning

This section of the guide contains important information that you need to read before starting your

update or upgrade process.

2.1 Supported Source Releases

This section provides an overview of the supported upgrade and update paths for SAP ERP.

Before the update/upgrade, your SAP system must have one of the source releases that have been

released for this update/upgrade and apply to all databases.

CAUTION

If you have to apply Support Packages to your source release shortly before the update/upgrade,

check whether the equivalent Support Package for the target release is already available.

Otherwise, this may delay your update/upgrade schedule.

2.2 Checking Prerequisites

Procedure

Checking the Add-On Compatibility

If you have add-ons installed in your system, check if the add-ons are released for enhancement package

5 for SAP ERP 6.0. For information about the add-on compatibility, see SAP Note 1318299.

Checking the Required Target Support Package Stack

When you update your SAP system with an enhancement package, you have to include a minimum

Support Package stack for the target release into the update. If your source release system has the most

recent Support Package Stack level, make sure that this equivalent Support Package stack for the target

release is already released.

Proceed as follows:

1. Check SAP Notes 1064635 and 1440337 for the required Support Package stacks.

2. Check the Support Package stack schedule on SAP Service Marketplace at http://

service.sap.com/sp-stacks SP Stack Schedule for release date of the Support Package Stack you

require.

NOTE

Do not apply the latest Support Package stack to the system that you want to update shortly

before an update.

Only valid for: Source Release = SAP ECC 5.00;SAP ECC 6.0;SAP R/3 4.6C;SAP R/3 4.70 Ext. Set 1.10;SAP R/3 4.70 Ext. Set 2.00 |

2.3 SAP ECC: Support Packages

As of Release 4.6, Hot Packages and Legal Change Patches (LCPs) are divided into several subpackages:

■ Hot Packages:

● Support Packages (for technical component SAP_BASIS)

● Support Packages (for technical component SAP_ABA)

● Support Packages (for technical component SAP_APPL)

■ Legal Change Patches:

● Support Packages (for technical component SAP_BASIS)

● Support Packages (for technical component SAP_ABA)

● Support Packages (for technical component SAP_APPL)

● Support Packages (for technical component SAP_HR)

CAUTION

If you use SAP HR, you must include the Support Packages for the technical component SAP_HR.

If you upgrade your system without doing this, the Support Packages for technical component

SAP_HR already imported into your SAP system are canceled and data is lost. Reimporting the

2.4 Using the Application-Specific Upgrade Toolbox

The application-specific upgrade toolbox (ASU toolbox) allows you to manage the preparation and

follow-up activities you need to perform for the technical upgrade.

It consists of two parts:

■ Application-specific content (ASU content definition) in the form of an XML file

The XML file contains a list of manual and automatic steps. It is included in the upgrade export

and updated with the correction package for the upgrade program.

■ Interface that interprets the XML file and presents the steps to the user for processing

Before the upgrade, this interface displays the preparation activities. After the upgrade, it displays

the follow-up activities.

Using the interface, you can enhance the XML file with your own activities and comments.

Prerequisites

■ Your source release SAP system must contain software component ST-PI with one of the following

minimum levels:

● 2005_1_<46C/620/640> SP08

● 2005_1_700 SP06

● 2005_1_710 SP04

■ You require authorization for the following transactions:

● /ASU/START

● /ASU/UPGRADE

● /ASU/SSM

■ You have the authorizations that you require for the individual activities in the ASU toolbox step

list.

RECOMMENDATION

Operate the ASU toolbox with a user with SAP_ALL authorizations.

Procedure

In roadmap step Checks, the upgrade program prompts you to call transaction /ASU/UPGRADE.

For more information, see SAP Note 1000009.
