After this month, SanJose will be done with season series against both Buffalo and the NY Islanders. NEW YORK STATE OF MIND…San Jose will play five of its next eight games against teams from New York, facing the Sabres (twice),NY Islanders (twice), and NY Rangers all within a span of 17 days. 500 FROM THE BACK-END…Brent Burns tallied his 500th career point, an assist, on Logan Couture’s power-play tally on 10/4 vs.Philadelphia. He became the first defenseman and just the 20th player overall from his 2003 draft class to reach the 500 point plateau.Burns also became just the third active blueliner to reach 500 points, joining fellow Norris Trophy winners Zdeno Chara and DuncanKeith. FILLING UP THE SCORE SHEET…Kevin Labanc had a big night for San Jose, and found his name all over the score sheet on 10/4vs. Philadelphia. Labanc scored twice, San Jose’s first two goals of the season, and also added six penalty minutes in the Sharksseason opener. Mid-Season All-Stars - Troy Grosenick, Daniel O'Regan 2016-17 FRANCHISE NOTES:- A year after reaching the Stanley Cup Final, the Sharks clinched a playoff spot for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons, and the 17th

time in the last 19 seasons. In total, last season marked the 19th time San Jose has qualified for the playoffs in their 25 NHL seasons.- The Sharks earned their 40th win of the season on March 9 vs. Washington, the 14th time they have reached that milestone since the2000-01 season. Those 14 instances are the most in the NHL in that span. 2016-17 INDIVIDUAL NOTES:- Brent Burns, who became the first Sharks player to win the Norris Trophy as the League’s best defenseman, led all NHL defensemenin goals (29) and points (76), setting Sharks single-season franchise records in both categories. He ranked T-3rd amongst NHLblueliners in assists (47), T-2nd in power-play goals (8), and 1st in game-winning goals, (6). Per the NHL, Burns became the first d-manto post back-to-back 75-point seasons since Brian Leetch in 1995-96/96-97.-His 29 goals scored were tied for the 18th highest single season total by a defenseman in NHL history.- Joe Thornton recorded his 1,000th career assist on March 6 at Winnipeg, becoming just the 13th player in NHL history to accomplishthe feat. 11 of the other 12 players to record 1,000 assists are Hall-of-Famers, and the other is Jaromir Jagr.- Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson joined an exclusive club on Jan. 26 vs. Edmonton. Phil Housley is in his first season behind the bench for the Sabres after being named the 18th head coach in Buffalo’s franchise history. The Hockey Hallof Famer and former Sabres defenseman is the seventh alumnus to serve as the team’s head coach. Housley joined the Sabres after helping to guide the Nashville Predators to their first ever Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2016.
