Date: Friday, November 16, 2012 8:00 AM - 11:15 AM Credits: 3.50 108 - Principles and Techniques of Noninvasive Additive-Adhesive Veneer Restorations. Dr. Robert Ibsen D.D.S., OD, FIADFE, FACD, FICD, FAAGP, FADI, FAIDS, FADM, FAGD Synopsis: Employing porcelain laminates to improve strength, function and esthetics of healthy but neglected smiles without pain, injections or removal of sensitive tooth structure, with an emphasis on porcelain-to-porcelain bonding and color modification that preserves tooth tissue. Learn how you can halt and restore multiple structural, functional, and cosmetic deteriorations using prepless veneers without injections or anesthetic and while preserving natural dentition and providing a simple, painless, and healthy solution for patients. During this eye-opening presentation, Dr. Robert Ibsen will reveal the techniques of Smile Simplicity and demonstrate how you can achieve chairside color correction without any pain, anesthetic, or invasive removal of sensitive tooth structure. These methods result in preserved dentition, virtually perfect shade matching, a natural-looking white smile, and a growing, loyal patient base. He will also focus on avoiding needless remakes and removal of clinically sound crowns through porcelain-to-porcelain bonding. Dr. Ibsen will reveal how to create successful adhesion between a porcelain veneer and a porcelain crown in order to restore esthetic consistency within the upper arch. If the prosthesis is clinically sound, this alternative option both prevents the potential for iatrogenic disturbance and saves the patient the time and discomfort of undergoing the removal and placement of a new crown. In your practice is an abundance of patients with healthy mouths who would love to enhance their smiles…if accomplished painlessly and noninvasively. In this practice-building, two-part presentation, adhesive restorative dentistry pioneer Dr. Robert Ibsen will demonstrate how to use veneers to create radiant smiles, strengthen teeth, and improve function without anesthetic injections or contravening your commitment to preserving teeth. Objectives: 1. Gain a foundational understanding of the principles of adhesion, with an emphasis on how to achieve successful bonding of a porcelain veneer to a porcelain crown. 2. Discover how to use veneers to achieve perfect color matching of a single, severely discolored tooth at the time of placement without removing any sensitive tooth structure. 3. Find out how margin-free, shoulder-free restorations are not only possible but enable you to eliminate the necessity for injections and anesthetic, preserve natural dentition, and protect pulp.

Page 9: San Diego Dental Convention

Robert Ibsen, DDS is a graduate of the USC School of Dentistry and Southern California College of Optometry, and has been an internationally recognized authority and lecturer on dental adhesion and preservation of tooth structure for over four decades. He co-wrote one of the first textbooks on the principles of adhesion titled Adhesive Restorative Dentistry and published in 1974. Also in 1974, after years of dissatisfaction with the dental materials available on the market, Dr. Ibsen founded Den-Mat 108 Continue...Corporation. He began to formulate well-known bonding and restorative materials. Ibsen pioneered the first whitening toothpaste, developing the ground-breaking Rembrandt® line of oral care products. He also invented a patented, high-strength porcelain that reproduced the appearance and translucence of enamel in order to create revolutionary LUMINEERS® porcelain veneers. With over 30 years of lecturing to the dental community, his passion is educating dentists about minimally invasive techniques. Having worked with countless patients who feared invasive, painful dental methods, Ibsen was inspired to develop simplified veneer techniques called SmileSimplicity® procedures. These procedures enable dentists to painlessly and noninvasively enhance the strength, function, and appearance of healthy but neglected smiles through restorations that are durable, stress-resistant, and non-microleaking. No longer affiliated with Den-Mat Holdings, LLC, or any other dental manufacturing firm, Ibsen is fully committed to teaching the design and placement methods of SmileSimplicity. He is a Fellow of the International Academy for Dental Facial Esthetics, American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists, American Academy of General Practice, Academy of Dentistry International, Academy of International Dental Studies, Academy of Dental Materials, and Academy of General Dentistry.

204 - Are You a Tooth Carpenter or a Tooth Fairy? - How to Treat Periodontal Disease in Your Practice and Get Paid for It! Flossie Riesner, BA, MA Riesner Consulting PC Synopsis: Do you ever wonder why many dental journals and consumer magazines say that more than 75% of all the adults in the US have gum disease but you are not billing for it in your office? This course for dentists and staff members will present a step-by-step approach to expanding the hygiene services you perform in your office on your new patients and your established patients as well, by implementing a soft tissue management program in your office. Since periodontal disease has been linked to heart attacks, stroke, osteoporosis and more, you will be able to help bring about better overall health for your patients by minimizing inflammation in their mouths. You may even save lives! The entire staff needs to be trained to understand the importance of this treatment to be able to communicate it properly to your patients. The course will present a philosophy of developing a “partnership” with the hygienist – valuing them, giving them more responsibility in the treatment of patients, and compensating them fairly. We will explore how the use of a hygiene assistant can vastly increase the productivity of the hygienist and open up more time in the schedule for the treatment of periodontal disease. We will discuss educating your patients, treatment planning, financial arrangements, scheduling and more. Also included will be a discussion of the protocol of billing and the submission of insurance claims for the periodontal treatment. Once you implement this program, you will be amazed at the increase in your hygiene productivity! Stop doing prophy after prophy for patients with inflammation and instead declare war on gum disease in your practice! Educate your staff and patients in the value of scaling and root planing to treat periodontal disease and learn how to best utilize your hygienists and assistants to become more productive and profitable for the practice. Learn how to treatment plan, bill and schedule these services. Objectives: 1. Develop a soft tissue management system to treat periodontal disease. 2. Not good? Why not find out why it remains chronic and eventually could put you out of business? The balancing act of standing upright on two feet isn’t easy. It is a major feat of engineering. Balance is everything. To achieve it, the body’s major posture joints, or load joints—the ankles, knees, hips, and shoulders—are stacked one atop the other. There are eight of them in pairs of four on each side of the body. Gravity presses down, and there is a vertical load-bearing. Furthermore, to balance the load between two feet, the load joints are in horizontal parallel alignment from left to right. You MUST achieve this balance…especially after working from the same side of the chair all day. Brian Bradley is the Vice President of Therapy Protocol at the world renowned Egoscue Method, headquartered in San Diego, CA. He is an Athletic Trainer/Exercise Physiologist and has authored three best selling DVD's on posture and pain, Pain Free Workouts (Vol. 1 & 2) and Posture Solutions.
