2015 SCORPIONS GAME SUMMARIESSPRING SEASON CONTINUED

Game 10

SAS VS OTT 0-0The Scorpions earned a point in the fi nal match of the Spring Season after a defensive struggle failed to produce a goal for either side. San Antonio native Matt Cardone made his fi rst professional start and earned the shutout in goal.

Game 1

SAS at FCE 0-4A controversial penalty call in the 5th minute set the tone for how this match would go for the Scorpions in a game played in Fort Mc-Murray, Alberta. A second penalty in the 68’ and red cards on Nana Attakora and Daryl Sattler sealed the result before Hanson Boakai and Lance Laing netted the Eddies’ third and fourth goals.

FALL SEASON

Game 2

SAS VS TBR 3-0Marvin Chávez scored his fi rst career goal with the Scorpions in the 11’ thanks to an Omar Cummings assist. Cummings, who entered the night with fi ve goals, tacked on two more in the 54’ and 62’ to move back to the top of the NASL scoring list and give the Scorpi-ons a 3-0 win.

Game 3

SAS VS FCE 2-2Omar Cummings scored his eighth goal of the year in the 17th minute to give the Scorpions the early lead, but Michael Nonnie equalized for Edmonton in the 36’. Elizondo gave the Scorpions the lead in the 57’ on Billy Forbes’ 2nd assist of the night, but once again the Eddies answered and the match fi nished deadlocked at 2.

Game 4

SAS at car 2-3The RailHawks scored two goals two minutes apart early in the fi rst half to put the Scorpions on their heels. San Antonio fought back with goals in the 35’ by Elizondo and 75’ by Castillo. Castillo had a last second chance saved on a 20 yard free kick late so a Carolina PK by Nacho Novo in the 67’ proved to be the game winner.

ABOUT THE SAN ANTONIO SCORPIONS & MORGAN’S WONDERLAND

San Antonio philanthropist Hartman led the eff ort to create Morgan’s Wonderland so people of all ages with and without disabilities could come together in a safe, colorful, totally-wheelchair-acces-sible park for fun and understanding." The 25-acre park, which features more than 25 rides, play-scapes and attractions, just completed its third season." In the past two years, Morgan’s Wonder-land has attracted more than 200,000 guests from all 50 states and more than 30 other countries.

Because anyone with a physical or cognitive special need is admitted free to Morgan’s Wonder-land, Hartman sought other revenue streams to help the park meet its fi nancial obligations as well as to expand programs and services at the park for the special-needs community." Morgan’s Won-derland opened in spring 2010 along with STAR Soccer, which conveys profi ts from the operation of 13 fi rst-class playing fi elds to the park."

Sensing an opportunity to benefi t Morgan’s Wonderland for the long run, Hartman in fall 2010 secured an NASL franchise – one rung below MLS – and immediately launched Soccer for a Cause, a campaign to build community support for the new team."

The team played its fi rst game on April 7, 2012 on the road against the Atlanta Silverbacks, earning their fi rst point in franchise history with a 0-0 draw. Their fi rst home game was played eight days later on April 15 in front of a sold-out crowd of 13,151 at Heroes Stadium. The Scorpions fi nished the 2012 season atop the regular season standings before being eliminated in the playoff s.

The Scorpions now play their home games for the 2014 season at Toyota Field; a privately funded, 8,000-seat playing facility. The 2013 stadium opener at Toyota Field took place on April 13 vs. the Tampa Bay Rowdies and drew 8,177 fans. ""
