This 4-week intensive Japanese Studies program provides undergraduate overseas students a stimulating opportunity to study various aspects of Japan, traditional, modern and contem-porary. Participants attend up to 5 elective courses on weekdays, and have opportunities to go on weekend excursions in and around Tokyo/Saitama.

All classes are conducted in English, and an introductory Japanese language class is offered for those who wish to begin learning this fascinating language.

◆ Field/culture trips and a homestay program will be arranged on weekends.

June 12 (Mon) – July 7 (Fri), 2017 (4-week program)

◆ Each course is 1 credit / 12 hours or 2 credits / 24 hours.

◆ All students are required to select 4 credits from the following list.

Courses

①Traditional and Popular Culture in Japan (2 credits)

②History of Pre-modern Japan through Film (2 credits)

③History of Japan and the Asia-Pacific War through Film (2 credits)

④Global Agenda and International Development in the Japanese Perspective (1 credit)

⑤Asian Economy (1 credit)

⑥Japanese Language class for Beginners or upper-level Beginners (2 credits)

ACADEMIC INFORMATION

Japanese Studies Summer Program at Saitama University

◆ Minimum English test scores required :

TOEFL/PBT 550; TOEFL/iBT 79; IELTS 6.0 (Non-native speakers of English only)

◆ Registration and tuition fees :

*Applicants enrolled in any of our exchange partner institutions will be exempted.

Application Deadline: April 5, 2017

Number of students to be admitted : 20

Please submit the following documents to your International Office.

✔ An official transcript from the applicant's home institution

✔ An official English test score (Non-native speakers of English only)

✔ Application Form with one photo (4 x 3 cm, color): must be an official photo such as for a passport or driver’s license.

*Applicants may need a short term visitor visa to enter Japan, depending on their

nationality. Please check the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

SU International House (on-campus) shared room (2 to 4 students) with Internet Access. Utilities (gas, water & electricity) are included.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS AND TUITION

*Room types are assigned by SU and the accommodation fee is 60,000 JPY per person (tentative)

regardless of the room type.

① Insurance: Please obtain full insurance coverage for yourself.

② Transportation between the airports and SU (one-way about 3,000 to 4,000 JPY) :

Fare varies depending on transportation used such as trains or Airport Shuttle Buses

from Narita/Haneda Airport to SU.
