What is Sahaja Yoga Meditation? Sahaja Yoga is a simple and spontaneous method of Meditation which brings a breakthrough in evolution of human awareness. There is a growing acceptance of the positive role Sahaja Yoga Meditation can play in the reduction of stress, enhancement of the individual’s physical and psychological well-being and improvement in the sense of balance, mental composure and self-control. Who can Practice Sahaja Yoga? Everyone can. There is no restriction of cast, creed, religion, nationality, age or sex. Benefits of Meditation Regular Meditation and the mental peace that it gives us can improve our understanding of our psychological, physical and spiritual being. It also helps us understand others so that we become more compassionate and positive towards the people around us. Scientific research done with illnesses such as asthma, epilepsy and high blood pressure has proven that Sahaja Yoga is effective in improving physical and psychological well-being.

What is Yoga? Yoga literally means union or connection. The traditional purpose of all Yoga techniques is to give us a connection to the inner peace and silence that exists deep within each of us. That is why meditation is actually an essence of all Yoga teachings. Only recently have people begun marketing Yoga as physical exercise alone. Sahaja means effortless or spontaneous. Sahaja Yoga Meditation gives us the ability to use the power already within us to effortlessly and spontaneously achieve a peaceful state of balance, well-being and self-knowledge. The Sahaja Yoga meditation technique encourages us to develop a new awareness of ourselves so that we can grow and evolve towards becoming truly balanced, peaceful and compassionate for the benefit of ourselves and others.

Sahaja Yoga is Absolutely Free There is no charge for Sahaja Yoga. It is a non-profit, grassroots organization and costs nothing for the individual to learn. Sahaja Yoga is taught in over 90 countries around the world – always free of charge. It has been taught this way for almost thirty years.

Diwali Puja 2002 without. It's a terrible power that works, this thoughtless awareness. So those who do not meditate cannot go very much far with the advantage of SahajYog

If you are in thoughtless awareness, what happens to you is that you get the confidence, complete confidence of divinity. You know you have it....Meditation will give you security.... It will give you are a real enlightenment and a complete connection with the Divine. Without the connection of the Divine, what's the use of doing Sahaj Yog?...

I've talked so much about meditation before, but today when I see all these candles burning, I think they are all meditating. They are all in meditation and that's how they're growing. In the same way, Sahaja Yogis who meditate, I know. And those who don't, I know. And if they have problems, I know why the problems are there....

It's very important to become thoughtlessly aware because then there are no thoughts coming from the left or the right, from the past or the future. Just in the present you are there. It's something you all have. It's not that I'm saying that to you, but all of you have this, but steady yourself. You have to steady yourself at thoughtless awareness. How long - that's not the point. The point is once you've touched it , you'll go on touching it....

It is always described in all the great books, but not so clearly as I am telling you.... Even for a second, if you get it, it's a very good idea. Then you go on increasing that second.

I think it's a reflecting mind. When you look at something, you can become thoughtlessly aware and then your mind deflects to the depth of what you see. That's how you all will become really very creative Sahaja Yogis....

Many people are here who will say, 'Mother, we don't get that state.' Try. Try that. I don't believe you cannot get it. All of you can get that thought that 'I can get it.' And you will get it. In that, you don't have to discard anything, you don't have to see anything, just go into meditation and you will be amazed how it will work out. Of course, you are very much there, most of you, but still, I would say, increase that thoughtless awareness, that area....

So today's message is that while you are meditating, go into thoughtless awareness. No thought is important because it's your own creation. But if you have to become one with the divine creation, you have to get to that state of thoughtless awareness, minimum of minimum. And that comes to you gradually if you grow and you'll be amazed how you'll be able to grow into Sahaja Yoga in a very big way.

Shri Mataji : Meditation

Every day you should do meditation. Those who do not do meditation are capable of falling down because meditation is like putting oil into the lamp. Those who do not meditate, think they can do without it, are sadly mistaken. They have to meditate morning and evening. The problem is everything comes so handily, so simple that they don't understand that meditation is very important. Not you, but there are many I know who get Realization, who don't meditate and their style is different. Their nature is different. Meditation is such a soothing thing ... a beautiful way of connection with the Divine, that all your problems get solved in that meditative moment. If you are not meditating, you are not following meditation, then maybe your light will go down. It won't give sufficient light. It's important, very important to find out about yourself, about others in the meditation. How to do meditation, many people ask. Don't do anything, just go into thoughtless awareness. Try to go to the thoughtless awareness. If you can get into that condition of thoughtless awareness, you can do your job because that's the point where you are with the truth, with the reality, with the joy.... When you meditate try not to make some sort of a function out of it - no. Meditation is something silent in yourself, silence in your thoughts and going to that deep ocean which is within you, itself. But supposing you don't do that, if you don't meditate. I can make out immediately those who are meditating and those who are not. It's not difficult for Me. Those who do not meditate are always hesitating. They are confused. They can't understand. And that's why meditation is the most important thing....Just like a light burns with the electricity flowing in it, in the same way meditation is a continuous availability of the Divine Force. That will reduce all your agitations Those who do not meditate are always hesitating. They are confused. They can't understand. And that's why meditation is the most important thing....Just like a light burns with the electricity flowing in it, in the same way meditation is a continuous availability of the Divine Force. That will reduce all your agitations. Not only that, but it takes out all the negative thoughts. It takes out all the discouraging things. And when you are meditating like that, thoughtless awareness, then you will be amazed how you are helped from within and

The Aims of Sahaja Yoga – a Grassroots Collective The aim of Sahaja Yoga is to give as many people as possible the opportunity to try the technique regardless of cast, religion, social position or economic status. It is then up to the individual to decide if it suits them and whether or not they would like to practice it regularly to experience its benefits. Freedom of Choice Just as a tree cannot be forced to grow it is not possible to make anyone meditate. That is why freedom of choice and personal freedom are essential for the practice of Sahaja Yoga meditation. Sahaja Yoga is a Journey Towards Self-Mastery Sahaja Yoga emphasizes the importance of each of us becoming our own master and teacher. Sahaja Yoga meditation gives us the capacity to gauge our own progress and adjust our practices accordingly, so that we can guide our own development. For this reason there is no official form of membership or subscription. Just as there is no formal organization, there is also no hierarchy of authority or power structure. There are local coordinators who administer the day to day activities of Sahaja Yoga in each country. Contribution to improving the society Sahaja Yoga meditation does not require us to go to any form of extreme behaviour. In fact, the aim of this meditation technique is to help us become normal, balanced, productive and responsible members of society. As each individual becomes more balanced, peaceful and compassionate, society as a whole will also benefit and improve. Meditation is the essence of Religion All the major religions have taught something valuable to humanity. The experience of Sahaja Yoga improves our understanding and respect for all the religions and their founders as they are part of the one tree of life. Meditation and the inner peace that it gives us are actually the essence of all these religions. A Personal Experiment Sahaja Yoga does not require us to believe anything that cannot be proven with our own experience. The best approach is to treat Sahaja Yoga like a personal experiment and see if it gives you any benefits. 3

Giving Vibrations

The Subtle System has three channels and seven chakras that are located along the spine. We can learn how to discover imbalances and ‘catches’ in our subtle system and cure them through giving vibrations

The chakras are associated to these areas on your body. Singing the musical note of the chakra, while giving energy in clock-wise direction helps to clear the blockages. Use Indian Scale or the ‘Ah’/’Om’ sound. Check your fingers by seeing if one is tingling, hot, or heavy. Find the number on the hand, and match the number with the body area above. Now put your left hand toward a picture of Shri Mataji. Now put your right hand to the area of your body that you have discovered. Move your hand in a clockwise circle, always down to your left. Move your hand for one minute and stop. See now if that heavy, hot, or tingling feeling is gone and has been replaced with a cool sensation.

Affirmations Sit comfortably in front of Shri Mataji’s picture, with your left hand palm upwards on your lap. Use the right hand as indicated on the left side of your body to support the movement of the Kundalini upwards. You can use the affirmations silently, repeating them ‘inside’ without speaking them ‘outside’. Please use these affirmations with all your confidence and your pure desire to become the Spirit. Shri Mataji explains: “It is everyone's right to achieve this state of ones evolution and everything necessary is already inbuilt. But as I respect your freedom, you have to have the desire to achieve this state , it cannot be forced upon you!”

Problems in the Subtle System

In order for the chakra centers to spin clock-wise freely, they have to be clean and balanced. Negativity, from within and without, causes clogging. Some of the main causes of clogging or ‘catching’ are as follows.

7. Sahasrara Doubt in God, dogmatism

6. Agnya Judgmental conditioning against self and others; worrying; “Roving” or “Adulterous” eyes, wrong ideas about God; Ego orientated life

5. Vishuddhi Feeling guilty; immorality, foul tongue; Arrogance, smoking, impure relations; lack of sense of collectivity .

4. Anahata (Heart Chakra)

Problems with ones Mother (left side); Problems with ones Father (right side); Insecurity, fear, emotional aggression; Lack of faith in God. Extreme mental Physical activity.

3. Nabhi Family or household problems, worries about money and job; fanaticism.

2. Swadisthana Over activity and stress, too much thinking and planning, artificial behavior, cults parapsychology, occultism, following a false prophet.

1. Mooladhara Sexual excessiveness (adultery, homosexuality); Lustful attention; imbalance of right side (constipation) and left side (diarrhea)

Clearing the chakras and dissolving the root cause of catches can be simple, but requires continuity and a sincere desire to rid ourselves of negative habits that are contrary to our spirit. These negative attitudes grew out of our old style management system, whereby our ego and superego, swinging back and forth between extremes, acted as “Commander in Chief”. The Sahaja Yoga clearing treatments, and methods of giving vibrations with meditation, can cure the problems.

Placing Yourself in Bandhan

"So now let give ourselves a nice bandhan. In the Bandhan of Mother let us move our left to right. One. Nicely. Understand what you are. What are your auras. Now again second. Now the third one. Now the fourth one. Now the fifth. Now the sixth one. And now the seventh.” H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi

(A) Hold the left hand out on your lap, palm upwards. Place your right hand over your left hip.

(B) And slowly raise your right hand over your head and down the right side of your body.

(C) Then raise the right hand up the right channel, over your head where the Kundalini is flowing, and down the left side.

This is one bandhan. Repeat this seven times, once for each chakra.

A bandhan protects us and balances the energy in the left and right channels. It is helpful to put yourself in bandhan before and after meditation. Give yourself a bandhan before and after getting in a car, playing sport, going to sleep, shopping, or anytime. It is very strong and comforting.

Mother, verily You are the Royal Dignity in me.

Mother, verily You are the Doer and the Enjoyer. I do nothing.

Chakras & the Subtle System Anahata (Heart) Chakra

It is from our heart that the compassion and love manifests, and also the heart chakra is the one that gives us the sense of responsibility and pure behaviour towards others. The heart chakra manifests in the center (at the level of the sternum bone) as complete security and confidence. All our worries, doubts and fears are destroyed when the heart chakra is fully enlightened by the Kundalini.

Vishuddhi Chakra

The fifth chakra is the chakra of diplomacy, of pure relationships with others, and of playful detachment. It removes all our guilts and remorses when it is opened by the Kundalini, and gives us a kind and compassionate voice. The tendencies to dominate others or to feel dominated by others, the feelings of superiority or inferiority and all jealousies are removed when this chakra is nourished by the Kundalini. Also, the Vishuddhi is the chakra which gives us the connection with the whole, enabling us to feel our oneness and the fact that we are all part and parcel of the whole.

Agnya Chakra

The sixth chakra is the chakra of forgiveness and compassion. Forgiveness is the power to let go of anger, hatred and resentment and to discover, in humility, the nobility and generosity of the Spirit. It is the one that dissolves all our ego, conditionings, habits, false ideas of racialism, and all our misidentifications. It is the narrow gate which opens the way for our consciousness to ascend to its final destination, which is the seventh center. Roving eyes, watching impure things, or self-centeredness damage this chakra. Watching the sky, earth or nature can help cleanse it.

Sahasrara Chakra

The seventh center integrates all the chakras with their respective qualities. It is the last milestone of the evolution of human awareness. Nowadays, we are at a level which corresponds to this chakra, and our consciousness is able to easily enter into this new realm of perception, which is beyond our limited mind and concepts, and which becomes absolute at the level of the Sahasrara. This chakra gives us the direct, absolute perception of Reality on our central nervous system.

Raising Your Kundalini

“Now raise your Kundalini slowly, very slowly, raise it the first time, you have to do it very slowly. Now push back your head and give it a knot, one knot. Second one, let's do it very slowly and knowing what you are, you are a Saint. Do it properly, not in a haste. Push back your head and give it two knots there, one and two. Now let's do the other one. Again the third one you have to give three knots. Very slowly do it. Very slowly. Now do it properly. Now push back your head. Now give it third knot. Three times. Now see your vibrations..." H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi

(1) Place the left hand in front of your lower abdomen, palm facing the body (2) Raise the left hand up slowly, moving from the base of your torso to the top of your head. While the left hand is rising, the right hand rotates around it clockwise, (up from within, and then down). (3) Until both hands are above the head. Then use both hands to tie a knot. (4) Repeat this three times, once for each channel. The third time, tie the knot three times

After Self - RealizationChakras & the Subtle System Nabhi

Chakra The third chakra is the one that gives us the sense of generosity, complete satisfaction and contentment. On the left side, the main quality of this center is peace - clearing this chakra can relieve stress and tensions. On the right side, it looks after our liver which is the organ of our attention and power of concentration.

In a clean, quiet place, set Shri Mataji’s picture with a candle before it.

When enlightened by the Kundalini, the Nabhi chakra gives us our spiritual ascent, righteousness and inner sense of morality, and complete balance at all levels in our life

Sitting directly on the Mother Earth is ideal.

Void Surrounding the second and the third chakra is the Void which stands for the principle of mastery (guru principle) within us. In many spiritual traditions, this area is the "ocean of illusions" that needs to be crossed with the help of a spiritual guide. When the Kundalini is awakened and passes through the Void, this principle of mastery is established within us. Thus, as Shri Mataji says, in Sahaja Yoga you become your own guru, your own spiritual guide since you can feel on your fingertips all your subtle problems and have the power to cure them using your own Kundalini. Moreover, establishing this center helps us get rid of all our habits, laziness, gross attachments, and everything that enslaves us in a way or another: we become our own master.

Sit comfortably with hands open relaxed on your lap, palms upward. This can be done in conjunction with Foot soaking. After raising your Kundalini and putting yourself in Bandhan, keeping your attention loose, see what sensations – i.e. tingling, numbness, slight heat – you may feel in your fingers or in the location of your body at the location of the Chakras. These sensations tell you where the blockages are in your Chakras. Clear them using a Bandhan and the appropriate Mantras (checking which finger or location on the hand corresponds to which Chakra). After some time these sensations will disappear, and you will start to feel coolness in your hands. This means that the Chakras have cleared and that some strands of Kundalini have risen unimpeded. Sometimes you may feel Cool Breeze at first, and then heat in the hands and the body. This happens as the Kundalini starts to burn away the impurities that are clogging the Chakras, and is a good sign. The process can be helped a lot by Foot soaking.

Following false "gurus" who are more interested in power tricks or your purse can damage very much the Void area. But after Self Realization, everything can be cured through the purifying power of the Kundalini in meditation.

Anahata

(Heart) Chakra

The fourth chakra, the chakra of the heart, is the place where resides our Spirit, our true Self, which is eternally pure and unaffected by anything, like a shining diamond hidden within us which witnesses all our actions. After Self Realization, our attention becomes for the first time connected to our Spirit and we gradually become aware of it. Our misidentifications with our ego or conditionings drop and we start becoming identified with our Spirit, which is our true nature.

On the physical level, this chakra looks after our heart and lungs - if affected it can cause asthma or heart conditions.

Page 10: SAHAJA YOGA - ALWAYS FREE Saahaja · SAHAJA YOGA - ALWAYS FREE As Sahaja Yoga is free and available to all, the potential for both individual and global health is unlimited. It is

10

Chakras & the Subtle System Kundalini is the power of pure desire within us, a motherly and soothing spiritual energy which lies dormant at the base of the spine in the sacrum bone (the ancient civilizations knew that in this bone resides a sacred energy). "Kundalini cures you, she improves you, she bestows all the blissful things upon you. She takes you away from the worries of the grosser level." H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi Self Realization is the awakening of the Kundalini through the central channel, piercing through the six chakras above the sacrum bone and emerging at the top of the head (fontanelle bone area) as a gentle "fountain" of coolness. The word fontanelle itself means "little fountain" which shows again the ancient knowledge about this phenomenon of Self Realization.

Mooladhara Chakra

The first chakra is situated below the sacrum bone in which resides the Kundalini, and its main aspect is the innocence. Innocence is the quality by which we experience pure, childlike joy, without the limitations of prejudice or conditionings. Innocence gives us dignity, balance, and a tremendous sense of direction and purpose in life. It is nothing but simplicity, purity and joy. It is the inner wisdom that is ever present in the little children, and gets sometimes clouded by our modern lifestyles. But it is a quality which exists eternally within us and cannot be destroyed, waiting to be manifest as pure joy when the Kundalini rises.

Swadisthana Chakra

The second chakra is the chakra of creativity, pure attention and pure knowledge. It is the one which connects us to the inner source of inspiration, and enables us to experience the beauty around us. The pure knowledge given by this chakra is not mental, but it is direct perception of the Reality, that can be felt in our palms and indicates our subtle blockages. Also this is the center of pure, steady attention and power of concentration. On the physical level it looks after our liver, kidneys, and the lower abdomen. When we think too much, this center gets drained of energy and diseases like diabetes or blood cancer can occur when this chakra goes completely out of balance.

Balancing Vibrations 1. If the heat is more in the left hand and also you do not feel vibrations on the left hand, put that hand towards Shri Mataji’s photograph and the right hand palm down on the Mother Earth.

2. Also you can hold the left hand towards a flame of a candle, palm upwards and near the flame (not so near that the finger gets burnt) and the right hand on the Mother Earth.

Balancing Right Balancing Left

3. If the right hand is hot/warm or no vibrations are coming, put that hand towards Shri Mataji’s picture and left hand palm facing upwards towards the back. No candle.

4. Finally if you are disturbed by thought or mental activity, do not fight them. Just witness your thoughts and let them go. Gradually you will find yourself in thoughtless awareness, without any effort.

Chakras & the Subtle System Morning Meditation

In the morning get up, have your bath, sit down, take some tea: don't talk. Don't talk in the morning, sit down, meditate - because at that time the Divine rays come in, the Sun comes afterwards. That's how the birds get up. They're all awakened by that, and if you are sensitive you will feel that by getting up in the morning you will look at least ten years younger. Really, it's such a good thing to get up in the morning and then, automatically you sleep early. This is for getting up, for sleeping I need not tell because that you'll manage yourself. Then, in the morning time you should just meditate. In meditation try to stop your thoughts. Watch my photograph with open eyes and see that you stop your thoughts. You should stop your thoughts, then you go into meditation. The simple thing to stop your thoughts is the Lord's Prayer, because that is the Agnya state. So in the morning you remember Lord's Prayer or Ganesha's mantra. It is just the same. Or you even say "I forgive". So you can start with Ganesha's mantra, say Lord's Prayer and then say "I forgive". It works out. Then you are in thoughtless awareness. Now you meditate. Before that there's no meditation. When thoughts are coming or "I have to take tea", "what shall I do", "now what have I to do", "who's this and who's that", all this will be there. So first you become thoughtlessly aware, then the growth of spirituality starts after thoughtless awareness, not before. One should know that. On rational plane you cannot grow in Sahaja Yoga. So first thing is to establish your thoughtless awareness; still you might feel little chakra blockages here or there; forget it. Just forget about it.

Inside every human being there is a network of nerves and sensory organs that interprets the outside physical world. At the same time, within us resides a subtle system of channels (nadis) and centers of energy (chakras) which look after our physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual being. Each of the seven chakras has several spiritual qualities. These qualities are intact within us, and even though they might not always be manifest, they can never be destroyed. When the Kundalini is awakened, these qualities start manifesting spontaneously and express themselves in our life. Thus, through regular meditation, we become automatically very dynamic, creative, confident and at the same time very humble, loving and compassionate. It is a process which starts to develop by itself when the Kundalini rises and starts to nourish our chakras.

Use of Elements in Sahaja Yoga

Sitting on the ground, hold the left hand out palm up and the right palm down on the ground. Request the Mother Earth to please cleanse you.

Foot-soaking may be practiced in a river, lake, or ocean. Stand in the water, and go into meditation, and respectfully request to be cleansed.

Candle Treatment : sit for meditation with the left hand upwards towards the photo. Rotate the candle clock-wise circles on the left-side chakras.

Look through the candle flame at Shri Mataji’s photograph, first with the left eye, then with the right eye, then with both eyes.

Inhale slowly and hold your breath for a few seconds. Exhale and breath normally. Inhale slowly and hold your breath with attention on heart.

Tilt your head back. Look at the sky and let your gaze travel without focusing. Close the eyes. Feel its majesty and your breaths oneness.

Quotes of Shri Mataji

"You are not this body, You are not this mind, You are the Spirit...This is the greatest Truth.”

"Meditation is the only way you can grow...Because when you Meditate, you are in silence. You are in thoughtless awareness.

Then the growth of awareness takes place."

"If your aim is to give Realisation, you will not encounter any problem whatsoever."

Foot-Soaking When the day is over (also anytime), relax by soaking your feet in salt water while meditating. This technique relieves the body of stress and allows for a peaceful and relaxed night's rest.

Sit comfortably in a chair with your hands out on your lap, facing Shri Mataji’s photograph. Place your feet in a plastic basin or bucket of luke warm water containing a handful of salt.

• Meditate for 10 to 15 minutes. • You can say some affirmations to cleanse the chakras. • Rinse and dry your feet. • Flush the water down the toilet. Try not to look directly in

the bucket before flushing. • Don’t use the foot-soak bucket for any other purpose.
