".. The selection of seismic receivers is among the most critical of decisions. For high resolution shallow surveys, it is necessary to have receivers that are designed to detect high frequencies without distortion in the output signal. The first rule of thumb is to choose a receiver with a natural frequency that is at least 10 percent of the highest frequency likely to be commonly recorded. If the highest frequency likely to be recorded is 400 Hz, then 40 HZ geophones might be sufficient."
