Calcium Gluconate Gel to be maintained for applying in case of body contact (after flushing with water).

Gas Cylinder Safety

Bulk storage of gas cylinders inside labs.

Separate storage area for gas cylinders to be constructed outside the Department.

Gas cylinders to be chained to a firm surface, not to be allowed to stand free.


Valve caps to be fixed when the regulator is removed.

Personal Protective Equipment(PPE)

Lab Coats, Shoes and Safety Glasses/Goggles to be made mandatory for all personnel entering/working in the lab.

Open toed foot wear will not offer protection in case of a chemical spill.


Surgical gloves used for handling acids in few labs. To be replaced with acid resistant gloves.

Hand gloves to be selected on the basis of the type of chemical handled. E.g., neoprene, nitryl, butyl.


Surgical masks used in labs for protection from dusts and chemical vapours.

To be replaced with disposable dust masks and chemical cartridge respirators.

Insulating rubber mats(conforming to Indian Standard(IS)-15652:2006) not being used for all high voltage equipment. To be provided.


Metal objects being worn by research scholars working on high voltage equipment. Same including jewelry not to be used during high voltage work.

A standard operating procedure(SOP) to be prepared for the same.

Laser Safety

Enclosure not provided around the Laser work area. To be provided to prevent exposure to others working in the lab.

Signages to be displayed in labs


Mid rail and toe guard not provided on working platform. To be provided.


Coal cutting operation produces dust. Local exhaust ventilation to be provided to remove dust before it reaches the breathing zone.


List of contents not displayed on all first aid boxes. Same to be displayed.


Protruding metal sections on the floor can cause injury. To be removed.


Materials/equipment which are not in use to be cleared from the labs.


Exits in the labs to be kept free of obstructions. Additional exits inside labs not to be kept locked.
