There are a number of key things you must do to comply with health andsafety regulations and a number of ways to make it as easy as possible. Usethe checklist below to ensure you understand your main responsibilities.

Decide what could cause harm to people and how to take precautions. This is your risk assessment. Use the two ready-made self assessment forms for risk assessment and a health and safety policy in www.hse.gov.ukDecide how you are going to manage health and safety in your business. If you have 5 or more employees you need to write this down. This is your health and safety policy.If you employ anyone you need Employers Liability Compulsory Insurance and you must display the certificate in your workplace.You must provide free health and safety training for your workers so they know what hazards and risks they may face and how to deal with them.You must have competent advice to help you meet your health and safety duties. This can be workers from your business, external consultants/advisers or a combination of these.You need to provide toilets, washing facilities and drinking water for all your employees, including those with disabilities. These are basic health, safety and welfare needs.

You must consult employees on health and safety matters.If you have employees you must display the health and safety law poster or provide workers with a leaflet with the same information.If you are an employer, self-employed or in control of work premises, by law you must report some work-related accidents, diseases and dangerous occurrences.If you are a new business you will need to register either with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) or your Local Authority - depending on the sort of business you have.

Mental Health First AidWhat is Mental Health First Aid? Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally recognised training course which teaches people how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provide help on a first aidbasis. MHFA won’t teach you to be a therapist, but just like physical first aid, it will teach you tolisten, reassure and respond, even in a crisis.Every MHFA course is delivered by a quality assured instructor who has attended our InstructorTraining programme accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health, and is trained to keep people safe and supported while they learn.

First Aidat Work (RQF)

Did you know that an estimated 555,000 workersin Britain sustained an injury at work in 2017/18?The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require allemployers to make arrangements to ensure their employeesreceive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill atwork. This includes carrying out a risk assessment, appointinga suitable amount of first aiders and providing appropriatefirst aid training. However, having the correct first aidprovision in the workplace is not just a legal requirement, it isincredibly important for the safety of all members of staff!

The QA Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF)qualification is designed for individuals who wish to act as anemergency first aider in their workplace. Upon successfulcompletion of this qualification, candidates will be equippedwith the essential skills needed to give safe, prompt andeffective first aid in emergency situations.

What’s more, as a regulated qualification, employers canbook this course for their employees and rest assured thatthey have fulfilled their legal responsibilities for providingquality first aid training, without having to undertake anylengthy due diligence checks.
