REMEMBERING OUR FAMILY HISTORY
Thanksgiving Days are ones at which the most family members generally come together during the course of the year. Since several generation are present, it is a superb opportunity to have the senior family members tell their own family stories: where did their parents and grandparents come from? When and how? What was life like in those days? Invite them to share some of their favorite family stories. Through this family sharing process, it will become obvious that all our families are immigrant families—little different for the immigrant families living in our midst today.

WHAT DOES A PARISH SPONSOR DO?
A parish sponsor for one of our RCIA catechumens is someone who wants to share their faith in Jesus Christ. They do this by building a friendship with their catechumen and modeling what it means to be a Christian who follows Jesus. Some sponsors regularly attend the RCIA sessions on Sunday morning. Other sponsors may elect to spend time with their catechumen during the week, or go to coffee or lunch together. They also introduce their catechumen to their friends at Church or attend parish activities together. They will involve them in Church ministries, too. They especially pray for and with their catechumen. Bottom line, there are three tasks: Be present, make friends with your catechumen, involve your catechumen in the parish. Other requirement: Sponsors must be Baptized, Confirmed and receive Holy Communion. If they are married, they must be married in the Catholic Church. ‘Keep Christ in Christmas’ Poster Contest
Children, ages 5 through 14, are invited to enter in the Knights of Columbus “Keep Christ in Christmas” poster contest. Contest entrants will compete in one of three age groups: 5 through 7; 8 through 10; and 11 through 14. It consists of three levels of competition including council, district and reginal/state. Winnings can range from $25 to $250, depending on what level is achieved. Rules are specifically listed in the Knights of Columbus “Keep Christ in Christmas” flyer which is located in the Religious Education Office. Here are some additional tips:
• Artwork must be on 11” x 17” paper. It can be Horizontal or vertical. It must be on paper that is heavy
weight, not cardstock or poster board or card board. Water color paper may be used. Paper is available in the parish office.
• A variety of media may be used such as tissue paper, watercolor paint and acrylic paint. If pastels, chalk or charcoal is used your poster must be laminated.
• Deadline for our council is December 15th. Please deliver your entry to the parish office. Students in the Religious Education Program or Mission Parish School may turn their entry into the Religious Education office or School office respectively.

The Restorative Justice ministry is in desperate need of Forever postage stamps for the supply of cards they currently have, which must be delivered to the correctional facilities by November. If you’ve been looking for a way to give back, this is a great place to start. The Diocesan Office of Restorative Justice / Detention Ministry exists to offer support and resources to the incarcerated. As OC Catholic writer Larry Urish reported in his Oct. 15 feature story “Caring for Everyone” (available online at occatholic.com), the largest collective Catholic population in Orange County is comprised of those in our local adult jail system and juvenile facilities. Urish wrote: “More Catholics are locked up in Orange County than the number of those who pray and serve at any other single locale in the diocese.” Donations can be dropped off or mailed to the Office of Restorative Justice at 1820 W. Caballeros de Colón (Knights of Columbus)
‘Cristo en la Navidad’ Concurso de Carteles Todos los niños de edades 5 a 14, se les invita a que participen en el concurso de carteles ‘Cristo en la Navidad’ de los Caballeros de Colón. Participantes concursarán en uno de tres grupos: Grupo 1 - edades de 5 a 7; Grupo 2- edades de 8 a 10; y Grupo 3 - edades de 11 a 14. Consiste de tres niveles de competencia incluyendo consejo, distrito y región/estado. Los ganadores pueden recibir un premio desde $25 a $250. Las reglas
se encuentran en las inscripciones del concurso de ‘Cristo en la Navidad’ de los Caballeros de Colón, las cuales están disponibles en la oficina parroquial. Tenemos inscripciones en Ingles y Español. Requisitos:
• Las dimensiones del cartel son de 11 x 17 pulgadas. Puede ser horizontal o vertical. El papel debe ser en paper durable que se pueda doblar facilmente sin arruinar el arte o romperse.
• Se pueden utilizar diferentes tipos de material como pintura de agua, pintura acrílica, y papel china. Si es que utilizan gis, pinturas pastel, o carbón, favor de laminar el cartel para proteger la obra de arte.
• La fecha límite para entregar por parte de nuestro consejo es el 8 de diciembre en la oficina parroquial. Los niños en Educacion Religiosa necesitan entregarlos antes, el 15 de diciembre.
